Im happy they got a relatively unnamed actor to play Dredd, hopefully he will not take his mask off.
What is cool is a female king pin. Thats pretty cool, Dont see many comic movies where a female antagonist isnt playing second fiddle to a much cooler male lead.

A drug which affects the user's perception of time? Is it perhaps called Cake?

Edit: also, that trailer looks pretty decent, I like their realisation of Mega City 1.

I'm not so sure myself, it just looks like a generic "modern" city. If the first movie got one thing right, it was the craziness of Mega City One with all the little jabs ("Eat recycled food!"). add in the fact people WILL be coming it to The Raid which came out earlier this year due to JD appearing to have a very similar plot.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to this film (mainly as it's released on my birthday. ), but there are a few things that don't sit right about it from the trailer alone.

Karl Urban? Doctor McCoy, Eomer, Vaako (Chronicles of Riddick)? I'd say he's relatively well known.

I think it works for me because it looks so very much like 1980s Birmingham, only writ vastly larger, which seems very appropriate to the material.

I really, really, really wished that this was going to be it for Dredd, but alas I think that they have messed it up again. I've watched the trailer a number of times now and I still ain't feeling it. I'm not even sure that it's going to be that great even as a Sci Fi movie. Although Urban looks good as Dredd, to me it only works until you pull away from him. From the neck down it's a disappointment, which is a shame as the close up looks really good. I know Wagner has been quoted as liking this Dredd and it's the Dredd he envisioned when he created him, the problem is he's not the Dredd of the comics. He's not the Carlos Ezquerra Dredd, or the Ron Smith Dredd, or Brett Ewins Dredd.

It's highly likely that the world of comic book Dredd wasn't practical when it came to building props and costumes, which is why I've always thought a CGI Dredd would of been better. An example of a CGI can be seen below. I came across it today when I downloaded this months copy of 3D Creative. It's by a guy called Paul Nelson. To me this is how they should of played it, with the benefit of being able to apply a Carlos Ezquerra, Ron Smith, Brett Ewins etc, skin to him.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Looks like a halfling in strippers platform heels to me.

I'll take this new envisaging until Judge Minty rolls around. At the moment I'm seeing this film as set at the start of Dredds carreer. Coulx work ig the Judges are a new layer of law but not yet the tyrants of justice they become. Also it's becoming MC1 so the kookyness of 2107 hasn't set in.

It's the only eat I can envisage that building not being vaped by a Manta Prowl Tank.

As you can see I'm keeping an open mind on this one.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I find it ominous that the Stallone Dredd had a better looking uniform, lawmaster and now a better looking Mega City One.

Someone has gone cheap on the CGI here. You cant have a proper block war the blocks are too far apart, and where are the kneepads.

I am calling this cheap, it may yet be good, but I no longer have much hope for that.
I wonder what Judge Minty holds.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

They went to far in the Christopher Nolan direction, making it look gritty and accessible to a mainstream audience that doesn't read comic books. That's the same thing that keeps me from loving the Battlestar Galactica reboot. It's a comic book movie, dammnit!

I've read Batman religiously since I was about 8, and Chris Nolan's movies are still the best adaptation of the series to date. I've not read much JD, so I can't really comment on whether this is going to be true to the book or not.
It looks cool, though, and I'm intrigued by the female crime boss. She looks dead 'ard.

Yeah. It's just an attempt to be as good as avatar and failing.

Anyway, I don't see the problem with the 3D. It doesn't add much most of the time, but the occasional good bit add to the overall experience.

3D can absolutely work. I was very skeptical but Mrs S made me watch The Avengers in 3D and it was great, I really enjoyed the 3D heavy action scenes.

I'll also second the comments above about MC1 looking like 80s Birmingham, think it will work.
