Yet another random thread to pass the time while we all wait...I just have a simple question. Will you switch armies (or change your main army) if 6th edition changes things up?
Would you start a Tyranid army if Monstrous Creatures become crazy awesome? Would you start a Blood Angels army if jump infantry receive a massive boost? Will you quit playing Imperial Guard if tanks become worse? Will you quit playing Eldar if psykers become horrible?

It's a little early to say. There is no realistic way to judge how any given army is going to function without seeing the new rules.

That's not really important, would you change your army if something that was bad became good or if your current was nerfed, could replace this question easily.

No, but I'm going to be adding some Blood Angels allies to bolster my Imperial guard forces (Librarian Dreadnought, awww yeaaa) and some more Daemons for my Chaos Legionnaries.

Well... Since I have s lot of different units for my Blood Angels and therefore always play slightly different lists, I will just adapt to the new ruleset.
Would be nice if am able to use some units more often then now because their rules get better.

Agreed.
If my Orks can take IG allies I will most certainly take a Lord Commisar (Blood Axe), Conscripts or Ironfist squad (Gretchin) and a LRBT (Propah looted wagon!)

I will finally be fielding my new necrons (still building models).
I have a buddy getting out of the hobby for family and FLGS reasons (no one plays 40K where he lives anymore and there is only one FLGS), so I will be getting 4000+ of IG for cheap.
That'll be my fourth army... so no. I'll stick with me four and hopefully one should work out!
But I see myself getting sucked into the allies pit of despair and making a GK army of henchmen with IG.

I have always played Codex marines and DA. It will definitely stay that way. If I can ally them I might try it, but I have a feeling my lists will be more effective pure. Only time will tell. But I can't see myself grabbing GK (or anyone else for that matter) and painting them, buying their dex, and running them.
Just too much time and money. It might make my list a bit more powerful, but I have a feeling that if it makes it so powerful that by not doing it you are nerfing yourself, my FLGS will just stop playing with people who ally to "power game". Not saying that it is, but I can see people having that problem once people find ways of breaking it.
As far as any other game changes that might make people compelled to change their army... I still run my DA codex (hopefully new one soon), and it doesn't really bother me they are older. I still run my SM even though they aren't the current FotM MEQ. I never once thought about changing. I mean, heck, if three guys at my FLGS can still stick it out with tau, I don't feel like I could ever have anything to complain about.

Presuming the allies rules are as easily-abused as they appear, I'll pick up a librarian dreadnought and remove the Blood Angels detail to field it with my Red Hunters.

English Assassin, as far as all rumours are saying, an allied force needs at least 1 HQ and 1 troop choice as well as anything else to be legal.

That needn't be a problem, however, since - presuming the rules work as anticipated - there's no opportunity cost to saying "That captain's technically a Blood Angel, so are these assault Marines, who can also now hold objectives.".

Then you need another HQ and troop choice. The bare minimum you need for allies is the HQ and 2 troops from the original army, and HQ and troops from the second army. So, absolute minimum is 2 HQs and 3 troop choices.

My point being that isn't really a burden of any sort, particularly when the allied troops come from the primary list's fast attack.

having to take 2 HQ and 3 troops isn't that bad really, depending on the points of the game.
In games => 1500 pts I usually take 3 troops any ways, and above 1800 pts it's not uncommon for me to take 2 HQs. Usually a librarian and then something to buff another unit, unlock bikes as troops and so on.

I won't change my armies at all, I'll just adopt new tactics and ally my World Eaters with my Khorne daemons
Blood for the blood god and all that.
|
“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

If the power weapon=AP 3 deal is true, I -might- get rid of my Dark Eldar. I really don`t want to do that Venom blasterspam that is popular right now and liked the idea of a shooty and stabby combo with wyched and incubi.
If CC gets that nerfed, I don`t see the point. I`d probably take up necrons or regular Eldar.
|
In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.
In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos. |
