So, with the new Allies rules and what can go with what being revealed, I can take things to bolster a Webway Portals ability to bring in reserves, so my question is, out of the armies that can ally with Dark Eldar ( Black Templars, Chaos Daemons, Chos Space Marines, Eldar, Grey Knights, Imperial Guard, Orks, Sisters of Battle, Space Marines, Space Wolves and Tau Empire. ) what models / units in these forces modify reserves rolls and will generally benefit a Webway Portal Lists ability to come in to play when I want?

My initial plan is to use an Autarch, but with some of these inane options, I wonder what alternatives there are.

Tau Commanders can take a positional relay that allows you to get 1 reserve roll on a 2+, but no others at all that turn.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Keep in mind that your main army may not be able to use abilities that allies provide. Should probably wait until we actually have the ally rules before planning out what you want to do.

Have they announced what armies will be allowed to ally with whom?

I've been assuming the wording will be the important part, for example Fortune and Guide specify you must select Eldar units.
However, The Autarchs Master Strategsit ability simply states that you may choose to add 1 to any reserve roll.

Obviously I'm not going to actually buy anything new till after I've read the actual rules, but I can make shopping lists / note my options.

I constructed this list of allies from this page: Games Workshop Allies

Thanks, I hadn't actually seen that page on the GW site.

Now that I can see who Ican include with my orks...

IMHO Allies is the stupidest thing ever. EVER.

Gazz and Yarrick on the same side?! ORKS WITH GREY KNIGHTS?!

Orks and Tau?! WTF?!!!

So stupid. This has ruined 6th for me already. It had better be for friendly games with opponents permission.

All games outside of a tournament are with opponents permission to be fair.

So you have no clue about fluff at all do you?

IG has bought Blood Axe mercenary support, meaning IG + Orks = possible.

Tau has as well, they hire mercenaries of everyone nearly..Including Dark Eldar

I'm hoping it's not a permission, and that it's a hard-coded rule myself.

According to recent info, Allies have 3 'grades':
Battle Brothers (can use each others powers as if were same army, work together great, etc), Allies of convenience ( work like just 2 seperate armies ) and Desperate Allies (when the allied armies units are within 6" of each other, roll a D6, on a 1 those units do nothing that turn )

But either way - which models in the armies I posted modify reserve rolls xD

For IG you have Officer of the Fleet and Astropath in Command squads to add +1 to reserves and subtract 1 from your opponents respectively.

I'll ignore your uneducated insult.

I didn't mention Blood Axes. I said Yarrick and Gazz. You know? The two lifelong enemies. The first named characters in 40k? Heard of them?

Tau have been making war with orks since them moment they left their homeworld. They hate orks. I think it might actually mention it in the two different Tau codecii.

Next time try paying attention to what I was complaining about. And then respond to those complains. Or better yet respond to the OP who was asking a specific question... which I also did not comment on.

Eldar are your best bet with Dark Eldar as they're the most likely to be Brothers In Arms

We don't know for sure that you are allowed to take Special Characters as allies. In fact, I'd bet against it.

And, AFAIK, Farsight broke away from the Tau partly because he felt the Tau were being too friendly towards the Orks.

There is a terrible irony in the GW web guy putting Yarrick as the IG example HQ in the allies section, especially on the Ork page.

Let's all focus on the funny side and quit being nasty to each other, okay? Any more unpleasantness will result in suspensions.

That's actually a REALLY good catch, I hadn't noticed that special characters are listed on certain allies pages, making it seem like you can take special characters, which I had assumed you couldn't, and the irony is great!

If you can take special characters, take Yriel over a regular Autarch every time. You still get the reserve bonus and he kicks massive amounts of ass.

Eldar shenanigans are the best shenanigans!

Yeah, I'm definately going with Eldar at this point.
Already have a little and have been wanting to start an Eldar army for years. Autarch boosts reserves by one (throw in a fortification with gear to +1 reserve rolls for a +2) gives my Webway Portal list a significant boost.

On top of that, rumours say Tau / Eldar are battle brothers, so I can defend my lines with eldar goodies.

Also, I'm confused as to WHY Yriel is better than a standard autarch... Their base statline is identical, he loses the haywire grenades and pistol, and all those options, so if I assume that at this point, they're both 70pts, is a singing spear that ignores armour saves and a one-shot 'missile' really worth the extra 85pts?

The one-shot Yriel bomb is absurdly powerful when you do it right. Rush Yriel into a unit of power armor or a horde, watch them pack in around him, then wipe 'em all out on Initiative 6. It's fun as heck!

Yriel got a nerf though. His sweet weapon is only AP3 now :(

It's all about the one-shot bomb. He reliably wipes a power-armor squad for me every game, also he's a great add to a Banshee-bomb. He also has one more attack and initiative than a regular Autarch, and since Witchblades/Singing Spears count as S9 vs vehicles you don't need the haywires at all.

1 - Witchblade is a weapon that auto wounds on a 2+, and counts as strength 9 vs vehicles. (I forget what it's changed to in 6th if at all)
Yriels singing spear simply states it ignores armour saves, so it won't get dropped to ap3 as it isn't a power weapon.

2 - Autarch and Yrial are both I6, and the Autach gains an attack from pistol + ccw so they both have 4 anyway (assuming you take one, and really, why wouldn't you.)

But ultimately - the Autarch has the options to take wings / a bike / etc and is significantly cheaper, and as Dark Eldar, I have no prolem with MEQs (or at least haven't. I think 6th will be a learning curve.)

Yriel is I7. The codex is sitting in front of me. As DE, you probably aren't at a loss for high initiative, but still. Maybe an Autarch would fit better with your army so sorry for making that blanket statement, but as an Eldar player I find that Yriel is significantly better. The Eye of Wrath and armor-ignoring Singing Spear make a big difference.

Eldar shenanigans are the best shenanigans!

huh... I could have sworn blind the codex said I6 when I was looking at it earlier, and now... I7.

That's... I'm confused.

Aaanyway - maybe I'll buy Yriel AND an Autarch (though prolly Autarch first).
