What are the Parlance/Jargon/Colloquialisms of Warmachine and Hordes? How did they come about?
For example I didn't know what Losing an Arm meant until I asked about it and Deadnight along with others explained:

A model with a crippled arm or head rolls one less die on the attack and damage rolls with weapons in that location. Additionally, a model with a crippled weapon system cannot use that system to make special attacks.
Am I missing something?
nope.
back in Warmachine Mk1, if you lost all the Ls or Rs, then that was that arm, essentially lopped off. gone. torn off. However, this led to warjacks in MK1 being absolutely terrible. in the change over to Mk2, as an overall increase in the effectiveness of jacks, jacks got across the board better MAT/RAT, cheaper (7pt jugs/35 versus 130odd/500pt games), power attacks got better (they used to suffer -2 on attack rolls for power attacks) and arms became "crippled" -ie 1 dice less on attack/damage rolls, rather than being "destroyed", amongst other changes.
In MkI, when an system was disabled (like arms) it was knocked out entirely, you couldn't use it at all. The term more or less moved on to the current edition's slang, I think.
Other ones that come to mind:
Camping Focus/Fury: The act of a warcaster or warlock holding on to focus (for Overboosting Powerfield) or fury (for transfers) instead of allocating or spending them. Example: "Nemo's camping three focus, so is ARM 17, right?"
Cutting for Fury: The act of a warlock "leeching their own life" when there isn't enough fury about from their beasts.
Caster: Neutral term for warlocks and warcasters in general.
Character Name Versions: With epic warcasters and warlocks, there have been different means to name them for shorthand. The first is the "letter" way, which usually looks like this:
- pNemo, eNemo, eeNemo/lNemo: This one is based on the idea that "p" means the basic of "Prime" version of a caster, the "Epic" version, and the new "double-Epic" or colloquial "Legendary" (which was a speculative term for the thrid version of warlocks back in 2009, actually.)
- Nemo1, Nemo2, Nemo3 - Same as above, but with a more book-neutral method. Nemo, for instance, never was in Prime.
X Chassis: Warjacks often share a "chassis", which is not just the physical model, but by sharing standard statlines as well. FOr instance, an "Ironclad Chassis" has the same SPD, MAT, RAT, STR, DEF, and ARM and grid, while a "Centurian Chassis' has its own as well. These are mostly tied to the plastic kits these days.
Pop and Drop: A strategy of using mass lock-down and then destruction. I find mixed terms for it, but mostly regards ot knockdown and shooting feat and army combos like Kreoss1.
And then some abbreviations or nicknames about:
Cygnar - N3mo - Nemo3.
- Darth Stryker - Stryker2.
- T-Head - Thunderhead
- ATGM - Arcane Tempest Gun Mages
- GMCA - Gun Mage Captain Adept solo
- Jr. - Journeyman Warcaster solo
Protectorate of Menoth - Silent Bob - High Reclaimer/Testament of Menoth
- Sevvy - Severius
- Choir Chants - Usually folks just say "No Shooting, no spells, or battle" rather than full names, in my experience.
- Errant Brick - Use of Exemplar Errants and all the trimmings for maximum irritation.
- The Book - Covenant of Menoth
Khador - Vlad - Nickname for Vladimir
- Clamjacks - Devastator chassis warjacks.
- Scrappy - Nickname for Scrapjack
- Angry Santa - Greylord Koldun solo
- Kovnik Joe - Joseph Gregorivich solo
- Winterguard Deathstar - Unit of Winterguard Infantry wtih all the trimmings and Kovnik Joe behind them, with some Iron Flesh to crank up their annoyance level.
Retribution of Scyrah - Ossy - Ossyan
- Shyael Myrmidons - The House Shyael Myrmidons have force fields.
- Vyremidon - House Vyre Myrmidons, the heavies without force fields.
- Mittens - Various versions of battle mages.
- The Tick/AFG - Arkantrik Force Generator
- MHA - Mage Hunter Assassin
- MHSF - Mage Hunter Strike Force
Mercenaries - Magnus' Feat - Renegade rocket launchers.
- The Cannon - The Commadore Cannon and Crew I think is one of the few models that you can call this on its own.
- Pirate Ball - Blob of pirates and support solos.
Trollbloods - Doomy - Doomshaper
- EBDT - Earthborn Dire Troll
- Keggy/Kenny - Keg Carrier
- The Wall - Janissa Stonetide solo
- Troll Moses - Runebearer solo

- Tuffalos - Trollkin Longriders unit
Circle Orboros - Stampy - Wold Guardian
- Woldshrimp - Woldwyrd or Woldstalkers
- Goats - Satyrs
- Barknode - Laris from Kaya2 or Gallows Groves.
Cutting for Fury is also know as "Going Emo" in some places.
Tartarus is also known as Tartar Sauce.
The Swamp Horror is also called the Swamptopus.

Clearing a Charge Lane: Opening a straight line from an attacking model to its target, allowing for a charge.
Hand Cannon: Any ranged weapon with RNG 12 POW 12, named after the most common weapon with that profile.
Redlining: Forcing a beast to its maximum Fury value.
Running Hot: Ending a turn with more Fury on your beasts than your warlock can leach, meaning that you will likely be making Threshold checks next turn.
Threat Range: The effective range at which a model can attack another model. In general, this is calculated either by adding SPD + 3 + reach for melee, or Spd + RNG for ranged attacks.
"And then Caine got Line of Sight/Butcher got a charge lane." - "I lost."

Retribution of Scyrah:
"Snipe Feat Go" - using Ravyn's Snipe spell combined with her feat and the Mage Hunter Strike Force's Arcane Assassin ability to attempt an assassination run.

Church: So it is a sword, It just happens to function like a key in very specific situations.
Caboose: Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it in people, it unlocks their death.
Warnoun is a generic term for Warcaster or Warlock. Stormnoun is a Cygnarian variant of the same thing for the StormBlades, StormGuard, and Storm lances (among others).
"Sock-jack." -v. to remove ones stocking, insert a warjack, and utilize it to render unconscious an unscrupulous foe.
"That F*%&ing Guy cheated me so I Sock-jacked him."
"I asked him politely, but he kept bringing Kreoss Pop'n'drop against my little brother, then rubbed it in his face after winning. Guy's angling for a good sock-jacking."
More appropriate during MkI when all warjacks were composed of high density white metal.

6th edition lands on June 23rd!
Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.
