Besides the robotic arm in the Command Squad sprue where can you find Power Weapons suitable for the Imperial Guard? I was thinking of just getting a bunch of Fantasy Bits to make Axes or Swords. Any other Ideas?

Just about anywhere. You can hopefully find some batches of close combat weapon pieces on ebay as well. Ages past they used to have close combat weapon sprues of plastic weapons in all of the CCW marine blisters. Unfortunately they don't have those anymore. :( Your interest in using fantasy bits works fine as well. Just pick some that fit the feel of your IG force and give it a go. I kind of went the other way myself. When building my chaos marine armies through the years I collected a ton of old chaos champaion figures and converted their fantasy weapons all over to 40k weapons instead. If you use some unique looking fantasy weapons it will certainly help your army stand out somewhat from the rest of the crowd.

Trim the teeth of the sergeant's chainsword and then file it down to be narrower. Hey presto, a power sword.

Oh, and paint it blue or something.

There's no reason to arm them with power swords, though.

Mauls/Axes are where it's at.

Just use the chainswords and paint the teeth blue.

I would use the chainsword, paint the teeth blue or whatever color you will be making your power weapons, and cut the electrical cord looking things that you get on the HW sprews and glue them on to look like the sword is being powered (this way your opponent can't say "dude, thats not a power sword, its a chainsword painted blue" NOW you can say "OH YEA?! see that POWER cord? yea, jerk, its a power weapon...") Maybe a nicer way to say that, but it seemed humorous for topical discussion.

GK Falchions. There are loads of them since most GK players barely or never use them and they look like a nice fancy sword in the tiny tiny guard dude's hand.

People keep saying to take power axes/mauls, where does it say that guardsmen can take those in lieu of powerswords?

any model that can take an ordinary power weapon can now take a power axe or maul instead.

Ok my turn to ask stupid questions:
Where does it say that?

As above and what are the points for that?

From what I gather if your codex says 'power weapon for x points' you get the choice. If it's a little more specific you're out of luck. No price difference though.

I think he means because there is no such thing as a power weapon anymore. There are different kinds. And therefore if you weren't FAQ'd to have to buy swords, they are able to buy any of the power weapons for X points. I have only been reading the fluff/looking at pictures in the book so far, so I can't give any actual rules backup.

Edit: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/458476.page here is the current argument

Fixed, mauls are a man's power weapon. TBH you are striking after everyone sans Orks, Tau, and Necrons anyway, so you might as well drop your initiative to 1.

TBH the new power weapon rules are a huge boost the assault blobs, with the added strength for lowering an already low initiative.

Finding weapons is a cinch. Just ask your fellow players.

Players of any fantasy army will have tons of extra unpowered CC weapons.

Players of space marine armies will likely have some power weapons. A power axe with the axe cut off makes a pretty good power maul.

Well, I'll probably be giving mauls to the commissar, if only because scepters/maces/etc have always been badges of office and it will further differentiate them from the rabble. Problem is, DKoK Commissars come with swords. Hmm, going to have to figure out something there.

On top of keeping the two ccw bonus attack with the power axe, unlike fists. And did you see that melta bombs work at WS against walkers, AND work against monstrous creatures?

Each blob Sergeant is now stock with both.

We can finally use melta bombs on monstrous creatures?! Finally! I never saw the logic of "hey sarge we are fighting this unbeatable big monster and our lasguns and knifes aren't hurting it, should we through are highly destructive anti material grenades at it?" "No, those are strictly to be used against vehicles! Blowing anything else up with them would be plain silly!"

On topic:
I made my sergeants power swords by taking their regular chain swords, cutting off the chain teeth (correct word?) and then simply sharpening what is left into a blade. So far that has worked very well. No idea bout axes and mauls how ever...

"Wait... wait... wait... NOW SHOTGUN THAT MOTHAF*****!!!" "I'd

Just cut off the chainsaw part of the chainsword and glue on a powersword from a Marine kit. My Valhallans are all done that way, using 2nd ed power swords.
