Hey everyone. Just got that GW bug again after a 6-7 month hiatus. Decided to start my binge off by building up, and upgrading my 5th edition geared necron army. Hopefully this will bring my force up to 6th edition speed!
just want to ask for some comments and or criticism on my battle-scarred command barge. Was kinda going fo itr being pelted on one side by an autocannon or another big gun. The impact from the high speed shells forces the lighter vehicle to be thrown off course. This also causes the unsecured lord to make an *oh Sh*t!" grab onto his control panel. lol
Thanks!

You'll get more replies if you upload the pictures to Dakka and put them in your post. No one likes links. Trust me.

No problem dude, glad I could help!
That damage looks pretty impressive! It's a lot better than a few random drill holes that a lot of people pass off as "battle damage." I'd love to see it with some paint on it!

Looking great! Although I'm not a fan of the one on the commander's chest.
You could also consider doing ricocheted ones, or ones that hit at an oblique angle that would leave a longer mark.

The chest one is the only one I don't like. Maybe pull a chunk off of his shoulder, leg, or arm. Automatically Appended Next Post: Or maybe a big slash across his chest from a powersword

The damage looks good individually. Nice and raggedy, and the damage to the necrons, the lord and the console is good, but the damage to the side is a bit weird in that it looks like its been hit directly on the top surface. Maybe try and angle the scoring to look like somethings been fired in the side and exploded internally? Also if you wand to make it look like its actually taking fire, add a couple of explosions to the surface. I got quite a good result using a short metal pin and supergluing woodland scenics to it before doing it up in explosiony colours: A bit of OSL finishes it off nicely, I think.

Good damage. I'd look at getting some liquid greenstuff (or the regular stuff) on the commander's shoulder though to close that gap or it'll be really obvious when you prime and paint.

I have to agree with the rest about the Overlord's chest wound, I don't like it much. Still the overall result is really good!

Thanks for all the replies! I appreciate the feedback!
The explosion effect is a tremendous idea! I will definetley try that.
Several people have mentioned that they dont like the commanders chest wound.
Is it the battle damage you all dont like? or is it the fact that its a greivous wound on the commander??
Also the comment about the side damage being off in theory..I totally agree. I think when I get home today I will all some danage on the part of the wing that is perpendicular to the rest of the wing. The "up and down" face.
another Idea. cut away a small-ish (moar damage!) section of the wing and green stuff a "living metal affect!" Like the living metal re-knitting itself back together.. oooo i like that.
MORE PICS TO COME
Automatically Appended Next Post: So I took your guys advice and tried to fix up the angling of the shots fired. I added some heavy damage on the CCB that would have been the first shots to hit. the next shots spray up and outward hitting the gunner, command deck, the lord and the stabilizer.
for the damage that was added I wanted something drastic. So I took out a huge chunk.

Then I wanted MOAR. So I decided to try my hand at some living metal. At least my interpretation of it. I was going for sort of a rapidly healing metal scab..so I wanted the texture.

I think it looks good. When painting maybe try and get a good contrast between the normal metal and the healing part? What colours were you thinking of using? Maybe an ultra-bright silver or a more coppery look to the area that is regenerating?

Thats a great point Flinty! Thanks for the tip. My theme is absolute zero. I was a asurman blue wash with rusty bronze accents. Something like this...
but with the bronze accents. and no offense to the owner of this marine.. but a little cleaner, neater and nicer
What color would you suggest as as contrast/ healing metal color?
maybe a right eye popping blue like ice blue?
something grey blue-ish like space wolves grey or astronomicon grey?
or straight up metal ??
Thanks for all the help guys!
