I had a question about a conversion in the main rulebook. It shows one of the masters of the chapter with a thunder hammer, but with a headswap for a helmet. I have not, however, been able to locate what kit that helmet is from. Is anyone able to shed light on the subject?

I believe its from the black templar upgrade sprues

no, we checked that and none of the helmets fit the style. It's a closed grill, with a skull on the forehead, and twin pipes on both sides. I'm thinking the helmet may have been a conversion, since I haven't had any luck finding it in any sprues, so I was hoping someone could enlighten me here.

no, there's no grey knights helms that look this way. It looks less medieval and more like a SM helmet with no grill. Unless I'm completely missing a helmet from GK that I'm unaware of, it does not fit their aesthetic.

Is it the Forgeworld Mark III Iron Armor helm? Don't have the book at work but I believe I remember seeing that bit in there somewhere.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

I believe it's from the venerable dreadnought. I wondered briefly if it was one of the Ravenwing Biker helmets, but having googled a few pictures, I can see that it's not quite the same.

That is something which is going to pose a problem to figure out.

I know I recognize the helmet from a Veteran model, from before the Sternguard/Vanguard veteran releases.

I've not seen the model, but could it possibly be the head from the Command Squad set for the company champion?

Middle guy obviously.

Sounded a bit like it.

How about a picture of it? Even a cell phone pic will do if it's not blurry.

It's not the Champion head, I know that.

It matches the helmet from the "Ultramarines Champion" set of armor in the Space Marine video game.

I know I've seen the damn helmet before, and I'm positive that it was before the Venerable Dreadnought kit came out.

This is going to annoy me to no end now.

Probably me too now. I've checked and it isn't the captain sprue at least.

Well for a start that helmet appears in AoBR.

Without the skull though, but that could have been added from somewhere if it is indeed this helmet.

Yeah the helmet style is also in the black templars set and the blood angels set but they dont have the skulls on them.

I know I've seen it before the Venerable Dreadnought though.

Gragh. I'm going to have to find one of the older mail order catalogs because I know it was a metal model.

The Model is an old Master of the Fleet i think but it was metal years ago they Finecast'ed it just before 6th ed. came out so I'm guessing that's a Finecast conversion...

It might be metal Wolf, as the Masters of the Chapter had separate heads from the bodies.

That's not really proof of anything, because as AegisFate noted, the Masters of the Chapter had separate heads.

I used to work with Bitz for GW, and I'l bet a 1000 dollars that helmet never appeared before any of the aforementioned sources.
