Hi, my housemate has been beating me very soundly lately. Usually I'm forced to admit defeat by turn 3 if I havn't already been wiped out. I played this game for over 15 years and normally I enjoy tweaking my lists slightly and overcoming the challenge of beating my opponents. But this really has me stumped. Our games aren't even remotely close.

I play CSM and Chaos Daemons, so if you can give me some tips on how to beat this army with them I would appreciate it. But if you have any ideas at all, even a different army all together I would like to hear that too.

We play 2500 points and he regularly uses 2 FoC.

His list:

HQ

1 x Haemonculus (Flamer template weapon)
5 x Wracks (Flamer template weapon)
1 x Raider Transport

1 x Haemonculus (Flamer template weapon)
5 x Wracks (Flamer template weapon)
1 x Raider Transport

ELITES

5 x Trueborn (3 Blasters, 2 Splinter Cannons)
1 x Venom with Splinter Cannons

TROOPS

10 x Dark Eldar Warriors (Splinter Cannon)
1 x Raider Transport (with the reroll misses with Splinter Rifles)

10 x Dark Eldar Warriors (Splinter Cannon)
1 x Raider Transport (with the reroll misses with Splinter Rifles)

10 x Dark Eldar Warriors (Splinter Cannon)
1 x Raider Transport (with the reroll misses with Splinter Rifles)

10 x Dark Eldar Warriors (Splinter Cannon)
1 x Raider Transport (with the reroll misses with Splinter Rifles)

10 x Dark Eldar Warriors (Splinter Cannon)
1 x Raider Transport (with the reroll misses with Splinter Rifles)

FAST ATTACK

6 x Reavers (with the D6 S6 hit on a unit they fly over)
5 x Reavers (with the D6 S6 hit on a unit they fly over)

HEAVY SUPPORT

Ravager (3 Dark Lances)
Ravager (3 Disintigraters)
Ravager (3 Disintigraters)
Razorwing Jetfighter (Splinter Cannons and Disintigraters)

Can you tailor a list to beat this one?

Uh, A simple tau multiple broadside with shield drones, pathfinder groups, fire warriors and some battlesuits would put a stop to that hard.

Edit: I just saw disintigrators on ravagers, is this guy a fool?

The real question is do you read what armies the OP plays?

personally i would say go for some 2+ saves if you can and maybe some obliterators, they tend to open up vehicles pretty well.

flying deamon with magic shooting should help, and be hard to kill.

umm...shoot im not super familiar with chaos stuff.

your biggest enemy seems to be poison and good ap 3 stuff. So i really have to say termies. as many as possible. make them come to you, as you out range them and focus fire as best you can...other than that...your running against quite an annoying list.

Thanks all, I hadn't noticed my Terminators would probably do well against this list (just gotta take care of those Disintigrators).

Sounds good but that doesn't leave many points for much else. 1008 points, hmmm. Although I'm thinking of a unit of 10 Terminators, you think that many would be needed?

And I suppose if you took them as allies in a Daemon Army you could make them not scatter with the Daemons Icons.

I think you want to take can as your base list to get 3 squads of oblits. When I get home I will draw up a list.

At 2500 points you can simply run something like the following for CSM, provided you were making a balanced list to handle anything, though you saying you've played for 15 years and can't make a balanced list that can handle this smacks of lying.

So all I can say is if you berzerker spam, you won't win vs this. Standard CSM with 2 melta guns, same with raptors with 2 melta guns and a few obliterators is a solid list foundation that you can add to. You simply need to walk up, blow his raiders open and snack on the contents

Well I started when I was 12 years old but then I wouldn't call that serious playing 40k at that age.

And sure I could draw up a list that could beat this, I wouldn't own half the models and I don't particularly want to waste a lot of money on models I'll rarely use or won't work.

So I ask for some suggestions.

Thank you for your advice, but Melta Guns would be awful. All his vehicles minus 6" from Ranged Weapons. And they all have a 5+ Invulnrable.

Raptors likewise, if I'm within 18" of him to move and shoot with them, he'll be able to move a Raider 6" and Rapid Fire 9 Splinter Rifles (rerolling misses) and a Splinter Cannon.

Not hard to judge distances now you can premeasure.

The best advice I've had so far is play smaller points games. Played him at 1750 after writing this thread last night and beat him (very very close game though).

I think you really need auto-cannon spam Havocs, the shoot down paper planes with ease. Also now that snap fire can be used take them in your squads of CSM.

Auto-cannons FTW.

Basically, just load up on Str 5 / 6 / 7 (or basically any Str6+ is best) weapons, preferably with a 30"+ threat range, and his paper planes will likely evaporate, then you use that weaponry to drop his troops.

Furthermore, enough Str4 will do it too.
With your bolters:
2HP: 18 Shots = 12 Hits = 2 Glances = Wrecked
3HP: 27 Shots = 18 Hits = 3 Glances = Wrecked
Which will likely mean Bolters can take out a venom a turn on their own.

Disintegrtors Cannons are great.
In 5th, they were severely under-rated, and in 6th they're really good.

3 Str5 Ap2 shots makes TEQs (Termis, Broadsides, hell most anything with a 2+ save) disappear, and with the new Hull Point rules, they're able to relatively reliably take out AV10/11.

Personally I'm running my ravagers / razorwings with lances and all my raiders with dissies.
