Spoiler:

First real look at the prequel, which I believe is based on a book. My interest is piqued, but on the other hand the last time Franco and Raimi teamed up we got this:

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Love the last bit.

However, yeah in general looks good, the main actor threw me for a sec though. Harry Osborn.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Okay, so the male version of "Cougar" is now officially "Albatross".

Another one of these prequel stories? What next? A tv show about Humpty Dumpty BEFORE he got up on his wall?

All Behold the great and powerful Trixie....Err i mean OZ!!!!!!
In all seriousness, i hate CG in black and white films, it gets rid of the idea that the film is "Old timey"
All it does is pull me out of the film rather then suck me in.

The black and white "real" world is an homage to the original.

And yes, I think of Trixie too when I read this thread title.

To be fair L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books set in the world of Oz, so there is plenty of material to mine.

I got that. But my problem is the now black and white is meant to throw you back to previous eras of cinema. But using modern film technigues is just wrong when using black and white.

1930's era effects would look contrived and out of place in this movie. . . plus using black and white is a modern film technique. The director can choose to shoot a scene in black and white if it helps achieve some dramatic effect or convey some emotion. Back in the day there was no choice, black and white was all you had. So consciously choosing to shoot in black and white when color is available is a (relatively) modern technique.

But Now Black and white is meant to be a throwback to old films. And it destroys the immersion if what im seeing is MEANT to be a throwback or homage then i dont want to see CGI.
Besies it would be awesome if they used old tricks and filming styles for the black and white parts and made the colored more modern.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

I'm not sure filmmakers should design their films around your aesthetic failings.

Indeed. the Artist comes to mind here.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I'd rather see Wicked made into a movie, and its a great musical.

But that so called good witch gelinda is probably the evilest person in Oz. Using poor dorothy as an assassin and keeping her prisoner in OZ til she kills off the other witch, just for wanting her sisters shoes.
