Subject: Zid's First 3 6th Games - 2k pt Tourney - Immotekhs Blitzcrons (games take place Sunday)

Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

Howdy all,
So this Sunday I'll be participating in my first 6th ed games... playing the FoB prep tourney here in town. I don't think I'll win, but then again, everyones working with new rules, so I'm at about the same level as everyone else haha. I've decided that, seeing as I'm learning and I haven't gotten to play with my 'Crons since I've gotten the army (mostly) built, I've decided to take my primered crons out. I'll be testing my new Immotekh build utilizing 3 royal courts, and I've HEAVILY emphasized gauss weaponry, massed shooting, and survivability; who can contest that a ton of warriors and immortals with orblords will be easy to topple?
Heres my list:
Headquarters
Immotekh - 225 pts
Overlord - Warscythe, Weave, Orb, MSS - 160 pts
Royal Court 1: 1x HoE w/ Chrono (40), 1x HoS w/ LF (35), 1x Necron Lord w/ Scythe, Orb, MSS, weave (105), Lord w/ Hyperphase Sword - 215 pts
Royal Court 2: 1x Necron Lord w/ Scythe, Orb, MSS, weave (105), 1x Necron lord w/ Scythe, Orb, MSS (90) 1x HoS w/ LF (35) - 230 pts
Elites
Triarch Stalker - Heatray - 150 pts
Triarch Stalker - Heatray - 150 pts
Troops
5x Warriors - Ghost Ark - 180 pts
7x Warriors - 91 pts (HoS w/ LF, Lord)
7x Warriors - 91 pts (HoS w/ LF, Lord)
7x immortals - Tesla - 119 pts (Lord w/ Sword, OLord)
7x immortals - gauss - 119 pts (HoE, Lord w/o weave, IMMO)
Heavy
Annibarge - Tesla - 90 pts
Annibarge - Tesla - 90 pts
Annibarge - Tesla - 90 pts
Total: 2000 pts
Strategy:
So this list might raise a few brows, and thats what its intended to do; everyones so focused on spamming fliers and gaming the system that I focused on staying true to building a balanced themed list.
-Stalkers are there to twin-link anyone that gets too comfy with my units, allowing for rerolled overwatches and shots. While they cannot reliably take down fliers, fliers aren't the norm by any stretch of the imagination. These are great against other necron players, for taking down AV 14, and providing a much needed buff to take down trouble units and hordes.
- Annibarges do what annibarges do best; blast crap. These can actually really hurt fliers with the change to AP -, and pretty reliably due to twin-linked. Every hit on a flier is 3 hits! These are also great overall in shooting stuff and doing loads of damage.
- Immotekh in this list is there for a few reasons; his Nightfighting no longer hinders Necron shooty lists very much (as long as you build to utilize it), while dampering any long ranged opponents. He smacks spam lists in the face with lightning. He takes on any and all challanges. He was BUILT to win challanges, or at least survive them for a while. He gives me a 4+ seize for those matches where first can be critical (Dark Eldar, Eldar, IG, etc.). Hes my swiss army knife!
- The overlords provide overall orb support, keeping my dudes trucking, and lead from the front with their 2+ save. I was thinking of adding Weave to them, but struggled to find points. But honestly, str 10 weaponry is at a minimum, and if I run across a vindicator or doomscythe, you can be sure they will be my first target. These also are great at challanges, and gives MSS, which is always good!
- The lord provides Immo an orb, while giving his squad more "oomph". Immo will be taking all challanges, leaving the lord to do some dirty work.
- 7x Warrior Squads - Camp objectives, being tough as heck to kill. HoS add more AT to the units. Lords provide counter assault punch.
- Ghost Squad - This squad follows the 7x Warriors around the field, providing fire support and rezzing warriors as they go down. This also "walls" off my army in the beginning if I need cover for my warriors.
- Tesla Immortals are my primary anti-infantry squad, slogging around and blasting stuff. They only get an overlord as none of the 'Teks add much to them. The lord w/ Sword just adds another tough body, and can accept challanges from anything the OLord doesn't want to face (sword is so he can at least do a little damage over the staff)
- Gauss Immortals run around rapid firing down stuff. They take Immo as they can make use of the Phaeron. Top it off that I have a chronotek for rerolling my lightning and things, and the Lord gives these guys an orb too, makes for a tough nut to crack!
Overall, I look forward to these games, and look forward to seeing how this fares. Note that I would add more teks or tweak this more, but this is literally using almost all my available models (I only have a D-lord, 22 scarab bases, 2 CCB and 2 lord models left after using all this lol...). How do ya'll feel I would fare? Any last second tips or suggestions would be good as well. I do NOT know the missions as of yet, and obviously don't know my opponents either... lol!
Edit: So found out (this is a FOB qualifier test) that FOB no longer is allowing double FOC's. That said, list was changed to reflect this.

I wonder if nixing the hyperphase sword lord to add a couple more immortals would be worth it. Makes the unit a little tougher, but completely wasted if it never gets into close combat. Plus a couple extra shots at the right time might be crucial.
Other then that, I like the look of your list. Can't wait to read how it does.

Thanks for the comment! Sadly I have no more immortals, the lords basically a points filler (need to convet up more crypteks to use so I'm not so pigeonholed modelwise)

Sadly my first 3 games of 6th were my last 3 games.... I REALLY hate the ruleset, and REALLY hate the mindset that has come along with 6th. People seem to be "ok" with the broken combos, and everyone seems to be using one... which made all 3 games very unfun, and there was a lot of arguing. Not to mention a 3 game tourney took almost 11 hours... so sadly these will never get posted. Sorry if I got anyones hopes up :(

I'm sorry to hear that but you are not alone with your comments. 2000 points tournament games are unwieldy to me just by fact the shoddy rule set of 6TH ED and the type of people playing in them that you ran into. I am not okay with "Broken Combos" that are needed to play against broken combos army lists in Causal and in Tournament play.
Already played a bunch of games and, I'm doubt I'm going to play in any more 2000+ games. I not sure I'll play in a tournament that allows allies as I've already seen and made so many broken army lists that it is not fun anymore. At 1500 points, it is all right, but the Ally rules makes this to me not quite as enjoyable as before.
Good luck Zid and thanks for your current and previous postings. Maybe you will find another game system to play with and then tell us how it goes.

Seems a little rash to quit after only one bad experience. I think it would be informative for the community if you shared your experience and why for you it made the game not worth playing.

Well having played against 2 harlestar lists and then fliers... Seriously made me want to kick a baby. That said, just isn't worth my effort to bitch and moan, people will stick with 40k. Myself, sadly, am going to move on and take a break... Probably start warmahordes in the new year. GW doesn't make games, they make models, which is abundantly clear with the new ruleset. My meta doesn't see "modifying" the rules as a good idea, ala no double foc, allies ok, etc. So I can just see myself having to run a list I really don't like and buying more models to compensate and deal with these insane netlists. Thanks for the encouragement adam, gonna start warmahordes in the new year I reckon. I have yet to hear anything negative about it, and I like a skill based competative game where your mistake (not dice) and ingenuity will decide the game moreso than a few dice and your list. I also like the fact you build lists around a character and a theme, which is a nice change.
That said, yeah, I hate playing WAAC players and WAAC lists will be the norm in 6th; play broken or go home seems to be the moto. Fateweaver term lists, all flier lists, harlestars, these are the stupid things people have to contend with. My metas OK with these lists saying its just part of the game... Well it can't be a competative game when most of the time the game can be decided before the dice even drop. Not to say 6th doesn't have some good things going for it, but just like MTG, I have a feeling a banned list will be vital to having good games.... But that's because I like balanced lists or themed lists and not "what stupidly op thing can I do" lists Automatically Appended Next Post: jy2 wrote:Sad to hear, Zid. Sad to hear....

Doubt it. Second time I've quit (first was due to a long, ongoing fight with another player who made the game lame for me). The ruleset ruined this time for me, and monetarily I won't be able to support a third return. Warmahordes is cheaper, more balanced, and more fujn it seems, so my next return will be there. GWs not inking anymore from me! Lol

Reading up on it, every character has his own "tricks" and units have tricks as well. So it basically comes down to generalship and knowledge more than what you pick.

At least in my region I've met some nice people playing Warmachine. Even started my Khador army. 15 points but this is a start before sinking in tons of money into another hobby.
A lot comes down to the community. Zid has is area he games in. I have my own. We can only give out information that is might help him out (or anyone).
He might find that there is a decent WM/H group down there that can teach him all of the tricks to play.
OH the WM/H starter boxes are an Awesome purchase. Pretty much comes with everything he needs.

Agreed. I also know that there are lots of tricks to wm, but like warhammer, once you see/play something once it normally sticks. I like that honestly, once you see how something "plays" you know what to do to avoid it, 6th ed took a lot of that away. Trying to kill 10 chaos terminators with weaver nearby? Comes down to dice, nothing more. No tactics, no tricks, no strategy, just launching as many shots as possible to take down a 2+/5+ rerollable or taking down a flier with as 3++ rerollable... That's no fun to me. WAAC to me is when people break things for the sake of it (I.e. harlestars) and use the rules to justify it. Warmachine things are designed to play basically exactly how they are meant to.

While i dont care for WAAC style people, and i like to think i am not one of them i cant help, but laugh at my air guard now. I knew in 5th planes were coming, and started my air calv..now i have one of the most OP armies in the game. I dont feel bad about sticking it to people, and i ask is it ok if i play this or not, but at feast of blades. You can expect me To be coming in full dick mode (of course being nice to the player about it) but i will be running my stupidly powerful air ig.

Let's be clear I'm not saying that only jerks play WM. " WAAC" is such a loaded term (I'm glad Zid defined his version of it) and I wasn't using it to mean "ragequitting, tantrum throwing, manchildren". But the mentality that creates the evil combos like "Dark Harlestar" is the same mentality that makes winning combos in WM and that mentality is encouraged. So if your goal for playing WM is to escape that mentality, you're not going to succeed.
Adam LongWalker wrote:OH the WM/H starter boxes are an Awesome purchase. Pretty much comes with everything he needs.
They were giving them away to anyone who demoed the game at WargamesCon this year!

I'm not sure I see how that's the case. Once you see the Fateweaver/Terminator combo you'll know what to do to avoid it. You either have what it takes to deal with that combo or you don't. It's no different in WM. You've seen it, you know how it works, you just have to figure out if your army can handle it or if you need to make some changes.
Zid wrote:WAAC to me is when people break things for the sake of it (I.e. harlestars) and use the rules to justify it. Warmachine things are designed to play basically exactly how they are meant to.
I think the Harlestar is probably a good example, because they're taking advantage of a misworded FAQ, but there are other units you can replace the Harlequins with a bunch of other things and it's still just as hard to kill. It seems a bit strange to me that one WAAC mentality is somehow worse than the other because it produces a result that was possibly unintended.

Sorry to see you go, bud!
But 6th grows on you. Some of the craziness is OTT, true, but everyone gets it.
We're getting past some of the lame rules that annoy us, and starting to enjoy 6th a lot. You just sort of have to embrace the cheese, and then everything is cool. Either that, or find like-minded people to game with who don't want to use all that craziness.
