I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I spent the weekend re-downloading Mists of Pandaria Beta just to try out the new Pet Battles system. Now considering I have been a big Pokemon fanboiy in the past, I knew the endless grind of level dozens of Pokemanz, multiple times would not be an issue. However a general lack of interest in the handhelds themselves, and a annoyance that Nintendo still won't bring the game into next gen fully, means I have been hardly playing lately.

So I load up MoP, go find the new lady who shows you how to battle/train your pets, and yeah.. absolutely loved it. The side bar that notes all your potential pets as well is huge, there has to be at least three Hundred in there, probably more like three fifty, maybe over four hundred. (We have a total possible of around 217 atm) They have multiple powers, weaknesses and resistances, Pet types, its pretty much all there.

Will rustle up some shots of the pet bar and info later. But yeah, damn it Blizz, my one weakness.

I could never get the Pokemon games myself. This does look interesting though. Might give it a go myself actually!

World of Walking has to be the worst insult I've seen for WoW ever.

That hasn't been a good description of the game since TBC launched.

Is it me or does Wow seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas now?? I mean come on... "pet" battles they might as well have called it Pokemon Battles...

Also how long has this god damn expansion been in beta?? I swear its been in that stage for what seems years.

Glad I gave up on Wow when I did tbh.

WoW has never done anything original. That doesn't make it a bad game, it's worth playing to level cap once, but that's about it.

OP wanted to discuss this pet battle feature and possibly the game itself.

I seriously doubt OP wanted everyone to come in and bash the game he/she clearly enjoys and plays.

... so...?

I'm fairly certain Fraz doesn't want people to post opposing views in his daily republican rag posts, either.

Nah its cool Karon, I knew there are a selection of Dakkanauts who couldn't resist bashing the game as soon as this thread came up, because you know. Blizz personally came round their place last week and whizzed all over their cornflakes.

However I was mainly sharing as I know a few people here on Dakka, do play and enjoy the game.

Although anyone one moaning about the graphics being an issue who also plays Minecraft, needs to leave the thread in embarrassment.
When in the hell has 'graphics a good game make'

edit - here is a shot the new pet list with battle info. This is an alt I used the auto 85 to make to try out a high level Warlock, one of the classes I've never got on with. As you can see they have put in the sharing pet data between alts. So although you need to do the 'welcome to pet battles' quest to get everything up to speed on each alt, once down, any of them can share the pets you leveled. So They will have access to your best and if wandering around with an alt and you see a rare pet, you don't need to quickly scramble you main pet battler to the scene and hope it isn't gone.

'Auto 85'? So if you have 1 character at 85 you can create another character(s) at max level?

Yeah the book of 'blahcan'tremember' you take as the level 60ish talent point does that.

Nice group, get a Fel Imp instead oif the imp, two demons I can't remember who replace the hound and Voidwalker. That six armed lass instead of the Succubus and the Wraithguard instead of the big demon.

Had a go with her through the first Pandaria zone, not too bad, trying to adjust to the fact I'm suddenly a 85 (and yeah its a Beta thing so you can go straight to the new high end content.) but it wasn't too bad.

If I can get some extra slots eventually I might play a Warlock through.

Although Aura wants the new introduce a friend mount. So I was going to make up a temp secondary account, use the triple XP to help one of her alts and grant her a few levels.

Make up a lvl one warlock alt. Allow the sub to end, and then when Pandaria launches, use a scroll of resurrection on the account, instant level to Warlock to 80 and then bring them both over to my main account.

Ah nice to hear.

My main is a bit of a collector, fighting for first place (currently second) according to Warcraftpets.com on Ghostlands EU.

I knew I'd be after them just to stay in the top three, but it is a lot of fun to boot.

I'll admit I'm shocked, but I'm glad you enjoy it.

Maybe I'll give the game another shot at some point in the future, never know sometimes.

*Shocked that it might actually be worthwhile, not that you would enjoy it. lol

Brilliant. Starting to agree with Aurelia, they should scrap the live action film, just do a CGI animated one.

Hmm interesting, it seems of the patch 5.04, all races are available for players regardless of what expansion you have installed for WoW, and after MoP launches on Sep 25th, that will include Pandarian.

Bonus for new players, just pick up a cheap Wow box, and try out any race you want.

These pet battles look awesome. I enjoyed Pokemon very much when I was younger and this is a great idea. Can't wait for Pandaria, I pre-ordered the collector's edition!

If it is better to start a new thread instead of updating this one I will be happy to do so.

There has been a lot of negative backlash concerning the 5.0.4

Cross realm zones are apparently a boon for high pop servers and bane for low pop servers. Blizzard still refuses to merge servers or close servers. I think they believe they can achieve pre Cata subscription levels.

As usual talents changes have caused yet another massive change to the game. As everything is allegedly rebalanced for 90 the rest of the game is FUBARed. Healers are unkillable and lower levels are putting out obscene amounts of damage. Case in point I recently resubbed and my 80 twink warlock can now Chaos Bolt for 60-70k(self buffed). There is no longer a CD on Chaos Bolt, just a new resource that can be reserved allowing you to drop triple Chaos Bolts...that always crit...that is 180 to 210k damage in under 7 seconds... Sadly I need to strip down and refit my computer to get any more gaming in so I can not comment on any additional OPness.

I think there are a lot of positive changes as well especially the removal of the outdated talented trees.

Here is fine.

As to your info, aye I am generally in agreement. Cross realm sounded like a bad idea in essence right from the off.

In part I get the idea of bringing back some kind of world pvp, for pvp servers, but to roll it out on all servers seems kinda daft. On top of this the problems being reported by the US 'guinea pig' realms are quite worrying.

PvE folks being forced onto PvP realms and then trapped while PvP players attack them is a big one.

Not being able to report players not of your realm is another.

The AH issue is something I really think Blizzard overlooked. If six or seven battlegroup realms are suddenly sharing a local area, and nodes are not unique per realm, there is an obvious risk the high population realms will nab most of the goodies by sheer weight of numbers.
As you noted this will leave low population realms with a distinct lack of craftable materials, and once again unbalances the game further in the favour of highier populated realms.

Blizzard are saying that things are being addressed, but I am still unsure. My realm for example is Medium populated, that means I can go a day or two without seeing folks out in the wilds, but most of the time folks are out there. However rare mobs, pets and the like are still very hard to track down due to dedicated farmers, with six or seven realms sharing them, well, it'll be next to impossible.

So yeah, in essence my current thought in cross realm is a big no no, but we shall see how it turns out. If they can get it to work, make rares/nodes unique to each realm, the idea of seeing folks out in the wilds more often does appeal.

As to the class stuff, yeah I've noticed it. Played a Rogue, Shaman and Death Knight since the change. Oddly the heroic class in the DK has been buffed a bit, but the other two are obscene.

I sat down for a few hours the other night and went from 81 to 84 on my rogue, she was eating through mobs/quests that fast.

I'll admit, I like the OP boost for the moment, as I'm sure it'll right itself as we reach towards 90, but I was genuinely surprised how much we jumped.

Other changes like dropping the often confusing Resilience, to PVP power, where now everyone has a 30% (might be 40% ?) damage reduction as standard against other players, and PVP power raises the reduction back up to normal.

Agree on talents, much better and apart from the odd one, every choice of three, is an actual choice based on your play
style or Specialization.

Still think they are ironing out the kinks at the mo. There some lag issues at the moment for certain, but in general I am hopeful for the future.

I need to fix my freaking PC so I can actually play for more than a few minutes at a time next weekend.

If it wasn't for the fact I've been playing since classic I would be interested in MoP. As far as MMOs go I still consider WoW to be the creme of the crop, but a good bit of the fanbase came from WC1-3 players who are now aging out of gaming.
