Hey,

So i've wanted to start a Thousand Sons army for a while now, mainly because I just absolutely love the look of them in all their Egyptian power armoured glory! And now that allies are am option, I am thinking of maybe doing some Tzeentch Daemons to go with them. I really like Tzeentch, you see...

Anyway. What I am wondering is if there is a cheaper way to do Thousand Sons other than buy the GW box sets, which cost £23.50 for 9 of the little fellas? I would go the ebay route - but there is a complete absence of Thousand Sons marines for sale on there.

I could of course try getting hold of those Thousand Sons heads from bitz stores (or on ebay) and splice them with normal CSM models, but would that look right? I am not sure.

Although I am going to wait a while until the new CSM codex is out before starting this project I would still like to get an idea of costs and plan ahead. So if anyone has attempted this or has any ideas then please do share! I would be very grateful!

I would wait until the CSM releases come out. They might include plastic Thousand Sons.

There isn't really a cheap way to start, but i would wait and see what the new CSM codex holds...

zerkers with their bunny ears repositioned and GSed together work well for heads and tabards are easy to make. also look into other companies bits, there are some good Egyptian themed heads out there

Kromlech has some decent TS bits under the Stygian appellation . Check their eBay shop.

The cheapest way to do them would be to buy run of the mill CSM, and then using kneadadite or milliput and make all that yourself. You could even make the casts of your own sculps and away you go, but I'm getting the sense that you are not skilled enough to do that quite yet.

Buying 3rd party bits is going to be a bit of a risk too. More often than not, those parts are more expensive than just buying the actual kit. The tabards are all easy, but it's the headdres that gives the thousand sons their look.

You might have luck going on ebay, posting an ad in our swapshop or bartertown, or going to a discount distributor, like warstore. Also, send me a message, I may have a few thousand sons bits to pawn off on you.

Oh wow! These look amazing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kromlech-Stygian-Nobles-Heads-/160684961401?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256991ee79

Thank you very much for that!

£7.50 for 10 of these heads, and they might give it a very unique look. Definitely worth thinking about.

Also, thank you all for your advice. I can't wait for the CSM codex!!

Scibor minis has a range of Egyptian themed conversion bitz. Only thing is Scibor is a little pricey and i have heard that the peices are mostly meant for terminator sized models. Still might be worth a look.

The bits you want are about a 1/3ish of the way down the page.

A few pics of some of the stuff they do.
Spoiler:

Another option might be to pick up a boxes of Tomb guard. They have fancy Egyptian themed swords and shields and the units banner would make a nice icon topper. The Kemrian Warsphinx would make an excellent base for a chaos dread or defiler.

Chapter house studios also do some thousand sons style shoulder pads.

As said before, I would wait for the new CSM dex to come out before getting started on making an army. The chances of a plastic kit is very high, especially with all this focus on psychic powers.

However if you are like me and couldn't wait for shiny new plastics you could always look into the 3rd party stuff. Puppets War have some great themed stuff as well as kromlech and there is also an ebay seller who occasionally casts some great parts from time to time (just search Egyptian knights).

Seeing as no one has posted puppets war stuff, here ya go!

Heads (available separately also),

And a selection of pads for termies and marines,

Is the cost really that bad? You just need 2-3 squads.

Puppets of War is 7 euros for 6 heads while kromlech is £7.50 for 10, and I prefer the kromlech design tbh.

However, I really like the shoulder pads:

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I may just go the route of buying cheap CSM's on ebay and attaching the kromlech heads and then possibly getting some shoulder pads from puppets war.

Trouble is this may end up saving no money or even costing more! But then again, it will give a unique looking army.

That's definately a different take with the white in there, but I like it. It's a great color to add, blue and gold gets real monochrome real fast. I wasn't sure about those other heads either, and I actually like the novelty of their look.

I need to finish mine so I can get some decent pictures up.
