I'm thinking about getting a Stormtalon for my Salamander army. I heard flyers are better in 6th and it looks pretty great. Can anyone who has used one or seen one used tell me if I should get one? Thanks

i heard of this site...e-something....about a body of water i think, that is all about used stuff.

seriously though, its really good, and really expensive, check out ebay and try and grab one but expect to pay some serious buck for it, even at discount. i would get one if i was playing marines or GK

I tend to just ignore them if there is one on the field since they are hard to kill, lack POTMS so can only target one unit per turn and non scoring in all but one game type.

Bring a single flyer against someone who has interceptor/skyfire in their army with bastions/defense line/hydras it will die first turn it arrives. The interceptor rule means it probably won't even get a chance to shoot.

So like anything good you need at least 2 but preferably 3 of them to be effective.

3+ storm talons are scary, so scary I would decline to play against 3 or more in a non competative setting due to lack of any counter other than taking 2 defense lines or some flyers of my own, so 2 storm talons is probably around the sweet spot for most games.

Like all flyers their movement rules are their only limiting factor, you'll find often mid game that there will be no available targets and your options are fly off the board and come back on as reserves next turn or resort to hover mode where they are substantially easier to kill.

If your only option is to field one, your best bet would be as an escourt for a single podded ironclad or sternguard squad in my opinion.

I want a Stormtalon because Salamanders usually lack speed and prefer short-ranged weapons. I could use the Stormtalon to wreck havoc against long-range units like Basilisks and support the rest of my forces where needed.

It'll work, just wreck their quad gun first round, before the storm talon arrives.

You probably want a few for them to work, as flyers are going to be shot down as they enter for the most part in this edition.

Personally I would not, I think it unbalances a Vulkan list. The issue is where else are you going to bring an antiflyer threat.
I am toying with attack bikes with MM to do this.
