I built this for a local painting competition. The rules: buy a flyer off the shelf, build & paint it by 4 August. Well, I decided to give the damn dirty Orks a taste of their own medicine & loot a bommer. I chose build an Avenger to go with the rest of my Air Cav IG army since I already done (at least) 1 of everything in the Imperial Navy except maybe an aquilla lander and the starfighters.
Front

Left

Rear

Right

Top

Bottom

Some closeups of the gunner & pintle heavy stubber

I designed the rear cockpit to look like the gun is in an armored pivot with traverse up & down, on a track to slide left & right, thus maintaining the sealed environment in the cockpit.

Pilot & controls (I know this one's a bit fuzzy, for some reason no matter how hard I tried & adjusted the settings, it just wouldn't focus well on the control panel)

Finally, the base

The base pics didn't come out real well, but since per the fluff the Avenger's a tank killer I wanted it to look like a strafing run on a dead Red Corsairs tank, one crewman is dead, the other is pinned under some of the smoking wreckage defiantly firing his bolt pistol up at the passing aircraft.

I wanted this aircraft to feel like an SDB Dauntless or F4U Corsair with the looks and styling.

I've got some partially builts I think... on my phone. I'll look.

At the very least though, here's what I used:

Ork Bommer kit
2x sets of stormtalon wings (each pair forms one of the vertical outriggers on the tail)
1x stormtalon tail (lower half for the upper tail, upper half for the lower)
stormtalon landing gear - for the landing gear (duh lol)
stormtalon engine pods
stormtalon lascannons
2 IG mortar halves (w/out the foot) - I used these to represent the hinges on the wings so it looks like they fold
2 Iroclad dreadnought HK missile launcher covers - these are used as the flare/chaff launchers back by the central engine
1 valkyrie gunner/WSO cockpit
1 valkyrie center landing pad
1 IG HK missile launch rail - for the bolt cannon's targetter
1 cadian vox caster antenna
1 dreadnought... um I guess it's a targetter? From the lower chassis
4x hellstrike missiles
1/2" pex pipe - used to lengthen the engines from the talon.
1/2 of the vulcan megabolter from the stormlord kit

For basic assembly:
I cut the wings right along the line that divides the flap into two pieces & then glued them to the gull wing extensions that have the gun port but not the thrust nozzle, I did them upside down to have a downward slant instead of upward. The fuselage is built pretty standard for the blitza bommer except instead of installing the Ork cockpit I used the valk cockpit which required a good amount of cutting (and cussing) to make it fit & then cut away the ork dials from the dashboard and used it & some GS work to close it up & enable the canopy to fit snugly without glue. The back cockpit I put a guardsman in w/out legs from thighs down so he'd fit (after more cutting & GS work). I used the gun that has curved housing on it to make the stubber. I also cut back the housing around the engine for aesthetics, this, glued the HKM covers there & built the tail as shown.

The tail required a repositioning of the horizontal stabilizers to just above the tabs on either side of the engine, as shown in the pics.

All in all it was just alot of GS work & cutting & gluing on bits.

neat conversion. between the nose cannon and the tail, it reminds me a bit of an A-10

Very nicely done. Love the narrative base.

Thanks, that was kinda my aim as well. Since it seems to me that it's a 41st millenium A-10 in terms of role but more like a 41st millenium corsair in looks, I figured I'd go for a mesh between the 2 to break out of the Imperial mold a little bit.

Conversion is neat... paintjob not so neat.. Needs more highlights and some dark ink would really help to bring out more details. It would be easier if you have gone with a metallic or generally brighter color cause now the dark paintjob and the absence of highlighting take a lot away from the good conversion work.

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

PM me if you are interested in Commission work.

I love it. You did a great job of turning an ork machine into an Imperial one. You can tell it has an Orky base, but the model is clearly Imperial. Idk, I find it really cool

Very nice

I think what sold it to me was your description 'I decided to give the damn dirty Orks a taste of their own medicine & loot a bommer.' it made me chuckle more than it should have.

Lovely miniature, definitely clunky enough to be imperial
