I've seen a few small tutorials on how to paint sand here and there, but I feel that its too bland and needs more contrast, does anyone have a decent picture of sand basing they've done and mind explaining how they did it? I'm going to start painting mine tomorrow and bought a few shades of brown to test out, but was wondering what other people have done to maybe save me some time.

These were, Vallejo Weathered wood, drybrushed with Light Mud, then Sand. Variation across the base added by thin washes of GW Gryphonne Sepia and Devlan Mud.

if your looking for contract you should start off with a dark brown base color, followed with a drybrush of something like beastial or beasty brown and topped with an extreme highlight of a bone color like bleached bone or vallejo color sand
the result will be a yellow desert sand kind of color... if you want different shades you can add washes, or start with a different base color
