Just trying to see what the general consensus would be on taking Imperial Guard as allies for Space Wolves. The main purpose is to open up the Vendetta,

The points are very similar just curious what the community thinks.

Primaris Psyker
Vet Squad w/ 3 Plasma mounted in Chimera w/ HF and Multi-laser
Vendetta

or

Primaris Psyker
Infantry Platoon w/ all 3 squads with autocannons
Vendetta

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Vets will give up less Killpoints and mesh better with a largely mobile force (Like wolves)

Personally I would choose the platoon one. Objectives are more prevalent in 6th and a cheap squad of guys sitting on them can be nice. They can help out the main force with some long range AC shots. I would put the mandatory PCS squad in the Vendetta (cheap scoring unit) and stick the primaris in some SW squad for insulation. Alternately, you could put a squad in the Vendetta and use the PCS to issue some orders to the squads.

"Because 6th edition is the ruleset that 40k fans deserve, but not the one they need right now... and so we'll argue over minutia... because GW can take it... because faqs and erratas require effort and money... they remain a silent rule maker, a neglectful protector... a Space Marine fanboy..."

Yeah you could give the PCS some meltaguns and a flamer, and you've got a cheap, deadly little unit that can score to ride in the vendetta. Even better, if you drop them on an objective in cover, they can use "Incoming!" on themselves to get +2 to their go to ground instead of just one. So in ruins they'll have a +2 cover save, and in area terrain they'll have a +3.

Right behind you...

Infantry platoon:
+a CCS which can give orders, which in turn boost the effectiveness of other guard units.
+You can give up to four special weapons to each PCS, up to five wepons in total to infatry squads and up to six weapons for special wepons squads
+You can take Heavy Weapon Squads, which can be deadly when equipped right. Gives a lot of mobile fire support.
+Conscripts can be taken, if you require meat shields for your better units.
+Lots of units to hold objectives.

-Costy
-Lots of killpoints
-BS3
-Requires a lot of transports to be effective, very slow moving
-Templates wil make you cry

Veterans:
+Three special weapons
+BS4
+Very mobile when given transports
+Effective support unit when joined by the Primaris Psyker
+Can be given a Demo Charge, Camo Cloaks or Carapace Armor for a decent cost
+Cheaper than an Infatry Platoon

-Less guys to hold objectives
-Primary target if given meltas or plasmas, must stay in transport

Personally, I would take the Veterans, considering you are playing a CC oriented army which can use meltas or plasmas at will and still get protected by the Marines.
Infantry Platoons give you lots of guys to use as a screen while you advance with your main force.
However, it is possible that the Vendetta will get shot down very early in the game.

There is only the Emperor, and he is our shield and protector.

Why the primaris psyker HQ? Drop it for a CCS with some special weapons and toss it in the vendetta for some BS 4 plasma and/or melta. As for the platoon/vets issue, platoons would probably be better.

So then do you think I should take a unit simply to unlock a vendetta or just take an Aegis to take down Razorwing/Storm Ravens?

I like the potential killing power the vets can bring but since all of my GH squads are dropping in Pods I do not really need mobile meat shields. I think the Heavy weapons teams sitting in the back with the Firepower of Long Fang squads should provide a decent blanket of fire.

Is the vendetta really worth taking? I know for a fact that my Eldar playing friend is bringing DE allies with a Razorwing fighter and I will be playing a GK player who uses a storm raven.

I suppose stating all of that might have made it easier to give some feedback but I think the points made thus far have been super informative.

And I like the Primaris Psyker lightning power. Potential to do some serious damage to units. I was trying to keep the points as low as possible to allow for max SW units.

Yes. For 130 points its a steal.

I'm a fan of bog standard ccs with a master of ordanance hidden behind terrain. Granted this is a pretty hit or miss unit. It's just a cheap way to get the HQ out and help a platoon out with orders and add some annoying firepower. Granted this probably wouldn't help SW out much.

I consider the Vendetta a good use of points in your case, as a means of getting Skyfire and helping with strafing the enemies. Putting a unit in it is up to you, as in all likelihood it will be priority target #1 for any of his weapons that have Skyfire. So a cheap PCS is a good choice to put in it (if any).

Whatever your choice is regarding a IG army allies an aegis line with quad gun probably is a good choice if your pretty sure your enemy is bringing flyer's or deep strikers.

Yea I am planning on taking an Aegis line as well I just redid my list to include both a Vendetta and an Aegis with Quad gun just in case my Vendetta gets wrecked before I get a chance to shoot down his flyer.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would take the platoon. Combine 2 squads and keep near the PCS for orders. I would put another squad in the vendetta to have a scoring troop unit late in the game. Even if the vendetta is destroyed while zooming, 1-2 guys might survive the Str10 hit.

against Eldar you are going to want to drop the Primus Psyker. He will die far to fast against RoW. CCS arent bad(in fact they are very very good) Master of ordinance is awesome.

I went with the platoon, because my list needs more scoring units, and 130 points gets you 3 scoring units in a platoon, vs 140 getting 2 from veterans.

Also, the more units on the field, the more units you can hold in reserve... and I -like- the ability to hold my marines in reserve.
