I'm trying to help my friend build an army and he chose Draigowing for a cheap easy army. So to give him a little help, what's the best loadout for Paladins? Automatically Appended Next Post: I went with mostly force swords to give them a nice 4 up inv save and 2 psycannons to help against light armor

you are going to want to add a warding staff to each unit and a few daemon hammers to deal with Teq.

5 men?
Probably:
psycannon/hammer, psycannon/halberd, stave, hammer, halberd
Though it may in fact be the case that swords are better than halberds overall, I'm not sure. What I am sure about is that 2 hammers per 5 paladins are necessary now.
10 man, I like:
apothecary/hammer
psycannon/banner
psycannon/sword
psycannon/sword
psycannon/halberd
stave
hammer
hammer
sword
halberd
Again, sword:halberd ratio I'm not certain about.
The stave is great in assaults now as its bearer can either accept challenges or Look Out Sir on his pals depending on the specific situation.
Hammers are needed for dealing with 2+ armour saves, the banner is a huge asset and the apothecary easily pays for himself in a big squad (and more so if it's running with Draigo)
|

Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.

Thanks for all the help. So an Apothecary and 2 Hammers is pretty necessary now? And is a Banner as good in 5 man?

A banner in a 5 man is not worth it. It means only 4 power weapon attacks + 1 melee attack. I'd rather have the always 2 power weapon attacks that an hammer, for example, brings.

If you really want the apotecary, yes. If not, change the apotecary/stave for a halberd/bolter and one psycannon for psycannon/stave. The rest untouched.
I really don't like 5 men paladin squad, but if you're up to, I would do that.

10 are expensive, yep. But they allow you to make 10 LoS (counting with Draigo), 10 saves and 10 FnP, rather than 5.
I don't know, maybe it's just prefference, but I don't like 5 paladins D:

Give to the apotecary the stave, get rid of 1 hammer, and give 2 swords, one to a psycannon, one to a stormbolter. And mastercraft the psycannons.

Adding in a Librarian with Divination Primaris power is pretty good on that squad BTW. But If you get Precognition that unit is pretty much indestructible and kills everything in the shooting and assault phases. (Foreboding is the other useful power). Either put Draigo in a different unit, or double him up to that unit with the Librarian as well, makes a heck of a great shooting unit, and assault unit, and you do not need to spend points on Master Crafted weapons. You do not even need the Banner at that point they are such a powerful unit.

Why would you want a Librarian when you've Coteaz for 100 points?

Psychic Hood and a 5+ invuln save?
Maybe not worth the 50 ponts (I did not realize Coteaz was Mastery lvl 2).

Coteaz makes henchmen troops, gives a 12" "protection" from deepstriking, rerolling for steal or for stolen initiative roll, mastery 2 but 3 powers, no invulnerable save but 2+. I think that the librarian, if you're gonna use adivination powers, got nerfed, due Coteaz, but I do agree that you can modify a lot a librarian, and one with a stave, shrouding, might of titan and something more it's pretty awesome for a paladin squad, but for divination powers, take Coteaz instead.

Precog only affects the caster, not the whole unit; unfortunately.
Otherwise it'd be amazing!
I'd say the primaris power and Foreboding are probably the best.

I think the best Divination powers are:
Prescience
Misfortune (an enemy unit rerolling all successful saves is at least as good overall as either one friendly unit firing full BS overwatch or ignoring cover, though one or other may be better situationally)
Perfect Timing
Foreboding
