Hi, guys. I bought 14 tactical space marines off eBay for a really good price, after they were delivered, I could see why.
The primer coat has either been sprayed on really thickly, or it's been sprayed over an original paint job.
Is there anyway to strip them back to the plastic?
Thanks in advance

I see you're over here on this side of the big blue. I use fairy power spray. It works decently. You can dilute it with water but I dont bother. I just spray it straight on then rub with a toothbrush. That's the cheapest safest way there is as far as I know. You can get those weird sonic vibration things that resonate the paint off when after soaking in a stripper (like fairy power spray). Power spray is quite safe. If you use it for decent amounts of time it makes your finger go wrinkly like you've been in the bath for too long.
I believe Dakka has an article somewhere. Ill look.

If that doesn't work you could try acrylic thinner, I used that on my friends mephiston model, it did work. Just dip a toothbrush in the pot and scrub it.

Hey, great idea. I do the same thing, and like to think i've become quite the expert on stripping Citadel stuff.
Check out my thread where I refurbish some old rhinos.
The product I use is really good value and extremly effective. It's sold in B&Q in the UK. Check out my thread for photos.
Firstly, need to strip the paint. I use this stuff form B&Q ( UK store). It's about £10 per tub. Small stuff can be left in it overnight. Tanks can be pasted with it. Safe for plastic - highly recomend.
I used a cheap packet of dentist tools to get the paint off. Local pharmacy £1.

Thanks, I'll check that out as well!
What are Fairy/paint+varnish remover like on Finecast stuff? Any side effects?
I had trouble with my venomthrope wilting because of the two days of summer we've had here, I'm not leaving them to windows again!

I've also used clutch fluid, hydraulic fluid, vinegar, ammonia and combinations of vinegar, ammonia and washing up liquid.

Ah your in the Uk, then you can also just grab a bottle of good ol' brown Dettol from a supermarket too.
Fill a container with it and then just plop the models in for 24/48 hours and then scrape the paint off with a toothbrush.
Just make sure to NOT use water to remove the paint afterwards unless its in a basin with a lot of washing up liquid. Water on its own will react and create a sticky mess.

Yeh, i already made that mistake :( That's why I wanted to find a different way, Dettol did work fantastically well, until the water...

We've all made that mistake once.. /pat pat.
Kinda horrifying when it happens, but if you make sure to keep water off the mixture till you are ready to scrub the very last bits of paint off, it really is an awesome product to use

I've just stripped a Uriah Jacobus model that I got from Ebay using Fairy Power Spray, first time I've used it and I'm damn impressed.
My only regreet is that I didn't take 'before' photos...

haha same, my metal models are perfect, absolutely perfect. The black undercoat is still on the plastics but I'm going to spray them grey to see if the detail will be affected...

Mineral Spirits are good on plastic, but be careful with finecast. It makes the resin a little rubbery.
