With the Shanghai GT round the corner I'm looking at building something like:

Zahndrekh

Royal Court
1x Destruction Cryptek
1x Chrono Cryptek
2x Despair Crypteks

Destroyer Lord
Weave
MSS
Tachyon Arrow

5x Deathmarks
Night Scythe

5x Deathmarks
Night Scythe

15x Warriors
10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
9x Warriors
5x Warriors

Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe

Despair teks join Deathmarks in the Scythes and are utilized as my alpha strike with Doom Scythe support. Warriors and Immortals provide resilient scoring units until the cavalry show up. Having the D-lord, Zahndrekh and Crypteks spread throughout 2 largest squads will improve survivability of one or the other.

This particular list is untested but a variant has been played and the weaknesses of it taken out of this version. Constructive criticism welcomed!

I must admit that I've never really used the deathmarks before, but I probably wouldn't go with 2 units of them. I see them more as a support unit and would probably only take 1 myself. But you have more experience with them so up to you.

Also, 1 issue I see with this army is the lack of mobility for your troops. Play against a fast pressure army and you just may be in trouble, especially if they can get to your troops on T2 before your doom scythes come in (i.e. armies like my own MTO crons, battlewagon orks, drop pod armies, DE, daemons, etc.). I think you need a little mobility for your troops. Either give them 1 or 2 night scythes (but then keep that unit as a 5-man squad) or 1-2 veil-teks to get them out of a mess.

Lastly, I think 3 doomscythes may be overkill against most lists. I would recommend getting rid of one to buff up the rest of your army (maybe an annihilation barge + veil-teks or another night scythe + veil-tek).

BTW, your Dlord doesn't seem to fit in this list. If you want to use him, consider getting 1 unit of wraiths.

Nice list. I like that you have not restricted your Troops' scoring capacity to Deep Striking from Night Scythes, and you still have plenty of flyers to be intimidating.

I agree with jy2 though to try get some Wraiths for the D-Lord, otherwise the points for him might be better utilised elsewhere.

From personal experience I can say Deathmarks work better in pairs. Getting to mark 2 units yet having both Deathmark squads benefit from each mark is a huge bonus. The Scythes get them where they want to be reliably.

My plan for the D-lord was to use his preferred enemy on my blob to make their firepower more devastating. Then if a cc unit got close he could detach and counter assault. However I can certainly see that he isn't being used to his full potential. If he gets dropped it gives me 190pts to spend on???

A bit of extra mobility on the Troops wouldn't be a bad thing, though I lack another Scythe (and I don't want to use what remains of my foam-crons,lol).

Any suggestions? Will have a think about it myself and see what fits.

So after a little think I came up with this:

Zahndrekh

Royal Court
1x Destruction tek w/ Solar Pulse
2x Despair teks
1x Despair tek w/ Veil

5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe
5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe

15x Warriors
10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
10x Warriors
5x Warriors
5x Warriors w/ Night Scythe

Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe

Now I have an additional Troops choice with some mobility from a Scythe and another Troops choice gets to benefit from being able to DS each turn. The only issue is I have to buy a Scythe (which is more of a cash flow problem than anything else). Thoughts?

Actually I'm still not happy. I'm looking at adding some mobility and by the time my air support arrives I preferably want my opponent at least partially de-meched so my Deathmarks and Scythes can go to work more efficiently.

The basic plan I want to work around is:

Zahndrekh

2x Despair Teks
1x Destruction Tek

5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe
5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe

15x Warriors
10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
10x Warriors
5x Warriors

Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe

That's 1775pts, so I still have 225 to play around with. I don't mind going out and buying new toys, but I already feel 5 Scythes is plenty. Destroyers? Heavy Destroyers? More Troops with Crypteks? Ideally it needs to be something that starts on the board so it can support the infantry and have enough damage output that I can start de-meching early.

TBH completely honest I'm not a fan of veils since they scatter (even though they are far more forgiving this edition) and a Scythe does seem like a good solution. But...if I can deny objectives and just focus on controlling the important few would that be viable? In this case Destroyers may be the answer.

Adding some Destroyers gives me a mobile unit (or 2) that can deal with MEQ quite well and can quite easily contest late game (as can the Deathmarks).

Too much is going on in my head right now....but how's this:

Zahndrekh

1x Destruction tek
2x Despair teks

5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe
5x Deathmarks w/ Scythe

15x Warriors
10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
10x Warriors
5x Warriors

2x Destroyers
2x Destroyers
1x Heavy Destroyer

Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe

Ideas?

Damn it I'm second guessing myself again...If I just want straight up mobility to contest objectives I may as well just use Tomb Blades. 30pts a pop gives me a unit that can get a nice 3+ cover save when Turbo-boosting and can get to objectives super fast. If an opponent also knows the value of these guys they may well draw some firepower from my Troops too. The excess points can be invested in a Cryptek or some more Warriors.

So I think I have found a compromise. Added mobility, added firepower. The final list will be (for sure since I just got back from buying the models and have no spare cash for more, haha):

Zahndrekh

Royal Court
2x Despair teks
1x Destruction tek w/ Solar Pulse
2x Destruction teks

5x Deathmarks
Scythe

5x Deathmarks
Scythe

15x Warriors
10x Immortals w/ Tesla
10x Warriors
5x Warriors

1x Heavy Destroyer
1x Heavy Destroyer
1x Tomb Blade w/ Shadowloom

Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe
Doom Scythe

So now each larger unit of Troops gets a S8 AP2 gun, I have 2 Heavy Destroyers who can pop stuff and a Tomb Blade who can come in and contest late game. The FA slot is simply an annoyance. If any shooting goes their way that's fine by me. If not they can screw up the opponents long term game plan. This is kind of a first for me, but hey, it's also my first serious outing in 6th. Bring it on!
