Rape has become endemic in South Africa, so a medical technician named Sonette Ehlers developed a product that immediately gathered national attention there. Ehlers had never forgotten a rape victim telling her forlornly, “If only I had teeth down there.”
Some time afterward, a man came into the hospital where Ehlers works in excruciating pain because his yoohoo was stuck in his pants zipper.
Ehlers merged those images and came up with a product she called Rapex. It resembles a tube, with barbs inside. The woman inserts it like a tampon, with an applicator, and any man who tries to rape the woman impales himself on the barbs and must go to an emergency room to have the Rapex removed.
When critics complained that it was a medieval punishment, Ehlers replied tersely, “A medieval device for a medieval deed.”

And considering this one only really causes damage if you try to remove it without a doctors help, it's better than the 2000 version.

That's Teeth alright... Watching that as a 14 year old with a load of girls the same age was not fun, they found it hilarious while I was cringing in the corner.

As novel as the idea is, I can see it causing a fair bit of harm. I mean, sure, it'll hurt the rapist, but it could certainly end up very badly for the woman.

I mean, if I were to put myself in the mindset of an individual trying to rape a woman, if that were to happen to me, I'd probably beat her senseless, if not to death.

Somehow I think if you had that thing wrapped around your member , you'll be more likely to roll around on the floor crying than being able to hit someone .

Your country, so far as I know, is the only one, ever, to develop nuclear weapons, test them, and decide they're bad business and get rid of all of theirs.

One of the companies I support has several large facilities in ZA, and so I spent a lot of time talking to your countrymen. They're all very nice, and I'd like to visit there, somewhere (although Australia is still number one on my list).

Don't get me wrong , I'm well aware of the good things we've done over the years ( first heart transplant , writing the U.N charter , ending Apartheid , District 9

etc ) but having lived in the U.K for a few years , 9/10 times I would only read about the really nasty stuff in the papers .

Like this thread highlighting the shockingly high rape and violence to woman statistics we have over here . Ergo my response , It's times like these .

One thing I realized...does anybody know the diameter of this thing? Because, well, after a rapist drove right into this trap and know experiences a rather painful feeling, don't you think he'd lose his erection, therefore also lose diameter and therefore might manage to get out of this thing?

As soon something like this became commonplace rapists will just take to probing will with a non-penis object first. Not to mention it's a rather odd thing to be asking a woman to turn her vagina into a weapon, I can see that being a somewhat unsettling experience in itself. Not to mention the fact that by the time this thing comes into play the victim has already been raped. Stuff like this is all just a nonsensical show that does nothing to solve the problem.

I guess that if this at least gives a few women some more peace of mind it's served it's purpose, but really I think time/resources/money could be better put to attacking the root causes of rape, and applying pressure to get the crime treated more seriously in the area.
