Subject: source for multi meltas?

I'm looking to kit out three of my tac squads with multi-meltas and I'm wondering what the best way to get them is. I know that the devestator box contains one MM ($35). then there's the single MM equipped space marine blister package ($14). I've seen a couple of the blister-packaged models on ebay in the $10+ range (after shipping). I've also seen just the MM bits themselves with prices all over the board ($6+ after shipping). the handful of dedicated bitz sites I checked were far worse than ebay, price-wise. I'm skipping over assembled/painted listings on ebay because I prefer to get stuff on spru. I realize this is not the cheapest option, but I'm pretty anal about cleaning up and assembling my models
I'm debating between picking up 3 of the single MM space marine blisters or 3 boxes of devestators. the former would give me exactly what I want while the latter would give me that plus a whole lot more. I've been wanting to put together a dev squad anyway, so I'm leaning in that direction, but the cost is obviously much higher. before I make any decisions, though, I wanted to check in with the good folks at dakka. given my self-imposed "on spru or at least unassembled" constraint, are there other options I should be considering?
cheers!

I would not go with the metal options from the GW Site, as, those models are terrible and tend to fall over *all* the time.
Getting a devastator box would give you 6 Lascannons, Plasma Cannons, 6 Heavy Bolters, 3 Missile Launchers, 3 Melta Guns.
Lots of options for down the line.

Devastator kit components always sell well on ebay, so you could recoup quite a bit of the cost that way if you don't want the other weapons.

The cheapest MM I've found on eBay is 12$ after shipping. You could get a devastators box for 35 in person and get the multi melta, power fist, 2 las cannons, 2 plas cannons, 2 heavy bolters, and a ML for 23$ more....If you wanted to sell the ML and power fist bits for almost 25$ you've made back the entire difference right there....

yup. I ended up finding 3 new boxes of devs on ebay for about $30 each including tax/shipping, so I went for it. I missed these the first time because I was spelling "devastator" wrong. oops!

Hmm, in your position, I'd be sorely tempted to go with the FW option. Three packs o the SM HW set is about $45 (going by uk prices at least), so it's actually not much more than three metal dudes, but you get posable resin parts which are also much lighter and so not prone to all the various issues metal models have. You'd also get three each of the Heavy Bolter, Lascannon and Plasma Cannon, plus twelve "Heavy Weapons" backpacks which might be ideal for differentiating a potential Devastator squad or just the Heavy Weapons guys - your choice. All the parts are gorgeous sculps, and I'm sure you've got a few spare marines lying around to use them with.
On top of that, IDK if you've bought anything from FW before, but if you haven't this is a great opportunity to get acquainted to their stuff with a relatively cheap and simple kit. Oh and did I mention how ing awesome they look?

I do love FW, but shipping costs to the US have always made me pass on their stuff. I wonder if they've recently changed they're shipping fees, though, because this time around it looks much cheaper than what I remember - just under US $60 for 3 kits after shipping. not bad. already bought my devs, though

...It's not too late to grab the FW stuff and use them to spice up your standard squads a little . That way, if you use them as devs, the units are more interesting, and you get some extra weapons to throw into Tac squads if you want. IDK, I just feel like it would be kinda awesome to see a mix of different 'marks' of heavy weapon among the squads...

Google: Metal Screw Clasps
They are a piece for necklaces. Just look for the type where the lines run along the length of the clasp. That will at least give you barrels for next to nothing.

If you don't mind a bit of modeling work, you might be able to get you hands on the MM options for the Attack Bike and/or Landspeeder for cheap.
Otherwise, right now the only way is to get the squad or blisters. You might have some luck on the Swap Shop or a dedicated trading site, but the scarcity of MMs, particularly NoS/NIB, will affect the price.
