Link is here. Looks like price is £36.00.

Resembling monstrous, artificial insects enfolded in shadowed wings of tenebrous force that propel them through the skies, Canoptek Acanthrites are murderous Necron constructs created for a single purpose – the destruction of those who have dared to claim the worlds of the ancient Necron empire as their own. Their agile, coiling tails are tipped with hyper-phased voidblades and they are armed with high-powered thermal cutting beams, and this potent armament allows them to carve and dissemble solid matter with horrifying speed. Unsurprisingly, when these devastating weapons are turned upon frail flesh the results are terrible to behold.

Canoptek Acanthrites are often encountered in the vanguard of Necron assault spearheads and extermination campaigns, and their numbers vary from a mere handful to vast hosts of these abhorrent machine-locusts, capable of stripping a city down to rubble and slaughtering its inhabitants in a merciless tide of destruction.

Models designed by Will Hayes. You can download Experimental rules for these rapacious constructs now, and this set is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st August.

Experimental rules are here.

As I said when these were first shown;

Those new Necron units are wildly disappointing. It's as if someone handed the designer a plastic Spyder and Wraith and said "Alright, make something else out of these."

So, of course, the rules are hot like an oven. Jumppack meltas, 9 to a squad, 45 points each? How can you say no to that? Well, I guess since they're 19 bucks each. Which is where my earlier quote comes into play.

I agree with Ooze on this one, massively disappointing considering what we have been treated to in the plastic kits.

A rare miss from FW.

I would agree with the general sentiments. GW Necrons > FW Necrons.

Jump pack meltas, at only S6 AP2. They also lack wraith flight and phase shifters compared to wraiths while being 10 points more

So I'm not sure I'd take these guys over normal wraiths or destroyers

They lack wraith flight and phase shifters, but have Jump Packs, Melta, Entropic Strike and Rending from the void blade, as well as 3 wounds. They cost as much as a whip coil wraith. I will try them out in some of my two wraith squad list, exchanging a squad of wraiths for them, should be fun.

I don't know what you people are going on about, these models look great. They look a bit more evil than their regular GW counterparts, as the Forge World models usually does. They also have decent rules, and sound like a fun unit to bring to the table. Also, they are pretty cheap, as they only are 7£ more expensive than the plastic models.

I wonder... imagine them without the flying base, walking on their blade legs, the tails reversed so they're like scorpion tales that arc overhead, and the weird bauble thingies on their backs are gone. Could that work?

Look like a bunch of flying shrimp. I do like their rules though, but it's a hard sell with everything else in the FA slot.

Well, it's not that the look bad. I hope I didn't imply I thought they looked bad.

The reason I was disappointed with them was because they are utterly, totally non-innovative at all. They don't offer a unique experience like other FW kits. Look at this:

That's a dynamic FW model and wholly unique kit. That's what FW brings to the table at best.

The new Necron bugs, on the other hand... it would take virtually no talent or greenstuff to simply kitbash nearly identical units out of plastic wraith kits. While I can see the charm in that (they would be about $6 apiece after 20% off), it's also very hard to get excited about that as a "new product". So, that's my beef with them.

not a fan of the cutting beam jutting out of the front like that, looks like an afterthought. Rules are great though, and I'm sure they're easy to kitbash for my allied Necron contingent.

They certainly scream 'convert me from something else' so there is that going for them.

The rules are ok, the Necron army really doesn't need melta, and your fast attack points are already buried under a mountain of wraiths with the possibility of scarabs so they are certainly the 4th or 5th best choice in the fast attack slot.

I think so, though I could still see a use for the bauble things maybe protruding in a cluster at an angle or something. Either way the entire necron line screams 'convert me', even the special characters. The nature of robot people makes most of the models bleed together regardless.

I saw these at Gamesday, in speaking with the guys from Forgeworld, they advised this is one of 3-4 new kits coming out for Necrons, also in line is a Super Heavy. Advised we would see more, as it is Minotaurs and Necrons in Imperial Armour 12. Like the look, would like to play test them with the rules.

I think they look fine, rules look good too, but I don't see me adding them to my barely painted army. Still meaning to get a tomb stalker though.. some day..

I think they're okay, but I also feel that comparing what is clearly meant to be a "unit" to a "special character" is a tad disingenuous.

There is far more that one can do with a special character than a unit which needs to have a tad bit of uniformity.

That said:
They're not really making me go "OMG I NEED A NECRON ARMY NOW".

I'm not thrilled. They seem to be really focused on destroying fortifications and vehicles. Two areas where we aren't lacking power. Maybe I'm missing something.

I quite like them, though I think they could be made better by repositioning the tails to face above their heads as scorpion tails, and reposition the head to look up. Take 'em off the base and have then scuttle along.

If I had the cash I'd pick 'em up just to do that, despite not being a 'cron guy

Rules are Preety cool for these guys. I do agree that the models looks more kit bash than firework awesome, but I still like them. I will ha e to pick up a set at PAX here in a few weeks.

Let's just do a quick comparison. A BA Assault Marine Sgt with T4 and 1 wound, with a jump pack, 3+ save, Inferno Pistol, and a Power Sword (not a perfect analog, but a close enough comparison) is 50 pts.

The Acanthrite is 45 pts. For a 3+ save. And an Inferno Pistol. And a void blade. And a jump pack. And Ld 10. WITH 3 T5 WOUNDS.

OP much?

Come on, FW. Write some balanced rules. 9 times out of 10, FW's rules are definitely under the curve. Sadly, for that remaining 1 of 10 instead of being balanced, they make up for it by being OP.

We aren't even missing out in the AP2 area. We have access to the single best CC weapon in the game (warscythe), plus squads of S8 AP2 Lanceteks, rending wraiths, etc. The problem is that any new Necron model needs to be unique in both looks and usability. For this new one, looks, yes, usuability, not so much.

As for model point cost, they are Jump Infantry with T5 and 3 wounds. S8 doesn't ID them, but the problem is that they don't get that armor save. There really isn't a role for these guys in the Necron army.

...it's also not shielded by a unit of cheaper models, it's bigger (TLOS concern) and comparing individual models in a vacuum is always completely nonsensical.

...and no. it's not overpowered. it's not even all that scary, compared to a wraith for example - which is in the same slot this competes for.

I like em. And it's good to have choices, they're pretty hawt rules wise. I agree with what Kan sez, and H.B.M.C. had a good idea trying to get all scorpion with them. At FW prices tho I'd probably see what I could kitbash, and was it Puppet's War that just release another unit type model that might proxy in nicely for these. Could go either way.

Yep they are good

Only bad point is they do compete with wraiths but they do look to have more staying power with the 3 wounds.

I've gotta say I like the wasp like appearance, and the rules seem to scream tank eaters (admittedly in an army that doesnt lack anti tank) at 3 wounds a piece they look well worth it.
