Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

So i want to include some allies for my ultramarines. I was thinking about adding in a BA libby with some devastators because that gives me cheaper devs and a better libby. What do all of you think? Would IG be a better combo?

Tau, Broadsides or sniper teams can bring me better fire power into the field.

Instead of taking another HQ and troop choice just to get something your codex already can put down, look at allies for getting something you can't have.
Broadsides is one good thing, far better than devestators for anti-tank. Attach Crisis HQ to them for kicks.
Or take a farseer if you don't want to see enemy powers.

Give us your list and we can give a definitive answer.
In general you struggle for good scoring units, though only in general.
The issue is all the allies(non desperate) give you good scoring units, so the best could be any.

Eldar Farseer is very nice for the Runes of Warding... but that is spending your allies 'slot' on a very specific defense and a good portion of points. I've been using it with mixed results.
It's great versus psykers, and with shuriken cannon GJB, warlock and farseer on JB both with singing spears it can go light vehicle hunting pretty reliably. But light vehicles generally aren't a problem for C:SM anyways, so you have to decide if the psyker defense is worth tying up your ally selection and ultimately getting a mediocre unit.

I could never find any allies worth it for my 1750pts list.. It seems to me SM work best by itself...

In fact, allies can work in larger pt games, say at the 1999 pt level. Here take a core of 1500 pts and add 499 pts of an ally detachment.

I've been considering IG for my Crimson Fists. Either a CCS and a Platoon or a CCS, Veteran squad and some heavy support choices.

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.
