Hi,
the new leaked list provides us with a lot of information on the 40k supplement on Allies with has been predicted by Stickmonkey and Straightsilver. I will try to summarize all available info in this thread.
Stickmonkey wrote:Tau Codex early next year.
Kroot and other existing allies are there, however they are limited. There appears to be an "Allies" supplement which will be out about the same time and include many more options. (aside: Dare I start a Spring of Allies moniker...ah well then it will end up being 2 years from now... )
Straightsilver wrote:As for an allies supplement, I was told that next year 40K will have a release very similar in format to the Warhammer Fantasy Storm of Magic supplement. In other words a book, cards and kits that could be used in multiple armies, in the same vein as the monsters from WHFB.
I assumed it would be a big supplement for Psykers, but it could just as well be for allies, as that seems to be the best way for GW to produce new kits without having to invest in a full 'Dex for them.
Now I hate to put Summer into any rumours, but I believe Storm of Magic was released about that time, which would put Tau and allies around June or July ish? However rumours strongly point to Eldar being early in the year, so I'm not sure if we would get 2 Xenos Codexes back to back? Unless GW really are going to do a release every month.
Extract from the leaked list (product code indicating those not belonging to Codex releases):
- Imperial Agents Enforcer with Heavy Stubber (resin blister)
- Imperial Agents Obsideo Assassin (Resin Blister)
- Imperial Agents Deathwatch Kill Team (Plastic Box)
- Imperial Agents Deathwatch Librarian (Resin Blister)
- Mechanicus Battle-Servitors / Khorne Caedes Engines (Plastic Box)
- Cult Hybrid Upgrade Pack (Plastic Upgrade Pack) X
- Patriarch Dumas, The Veiled Fiend (Resin)
- Kroot Kroothawks (Resin Blister)
- Harlequin Solitaire (Resin Blister)
- Cabal Tarellian Cotor with Dragontongue (Resin Blister)
- Cabal Alpha Psyker (Resin Blister)
- Freebooters Ogreen Kaptain (Resin Blister)
- Cypher (Resin Blister)
All produced in Lention except Cult Hybrid Upgrade Pack

Kroothawks?! With Rapid fire Rumor Cannons?
Sorry I couldn't help it
Looks interesting though, here's to hoping for more Xenos allies, but we know how that goes.

Yes, I was going to suggest that Deathwatch would most likely appear in the Allies dex.
Unless of course He Who Must Not Be Named is working on one of his famously epic 'slash and burn' retcons.

So many models, even less time.

Highly doubtful they'd change Deathwatch that much, as it's a staple of the FFG RPG line.

It would make alot of sense if SoB recieved a more formal release as a smaller allied force. They could be useful without needing their own full codex by combining with other imperial armies.
Also I have a horrible feeling Genestealer cults with mean me spending crazy amounts of money on IG models...

The side of me which enjoys the fluff and painting is greatly pleased by the prospect of 'Stealer Cults and swanky new Deathwatch Marines. That which wants a playable game fears the likely outcome of a few "must-take" options destabilising the game (and reducing diversity of builds) even further. At least the Hybrids will be useful for Space Hulk.

An upgrade pack maybe generic enough to work with any human models... but I'd guess chaos cultists.

Other than the starter set are there any rumors of cultist kits?

No. We've heard naught about any actual Cultist kit. I fear they will be a starter-only product for years to come, much like the Deffkopta.

I really hope you're wrong about that, I'm quite keen on cultists for all sorts of gaming if they are the style of the 2nd edition ones.

Technically the Deffkopta did have a model! I think it was direct only though
ShatteredBlade wrote:So, GW is taking a page from Privateer Press with the Allies it seems.
Which they already had done years ago with Fantasy's DoW/RoR, Kislev, and a few lists I think in Storm of Chaos. Though fantasy wasnt really built with allies/mercenaries in mind so they scrapped it.

Surely they will release the cultists as a kit?
I mean, if every fether wants to buy them, forcing them to go through ebay seems to be all kinds of stupid to me.
Although, they have done some dumb gak over the years.. so who knows eh?

Or fork over $33!
For one
So a unit of three would be....almost as much as the starter set

GW has had allies in 40k long before PP was even in existence. In fact only in 5th edition was it removed as an option.

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive. Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.
