Somewhere in the steamy jungles of the south...

First off: I know that there have to be some other people here on Dakka that like to keep the boxes their precious models come in. I know I do. The only problem is that, sooner or later, the mounds of boxes begin get out of hand and annoy your partner/parents/roommate/cat. The solution? Get out your hobby knives and cut off the front panels of the boxes, or whichever bit is your favorite, and put them up on your walls! GW boxes work especially well for this, as the photography of the contents is always very nice and serves as inspiration for your painting exploits (I put mine up above my painting desk for this reason).

Anyways, just a random thought that I figured might be useful to you guys/girls.

I did that back when GW had actual art instead of pictures on their boxes. Oh those were the days.

Hmm. Might it not be a little uncomfortably reminiscent of being in a Games Workshop store, I wonder?

I suppose the illusion would only be truly complete if you could arrange for somebody to bellow "Hello! How are you? Are you looking for anything in particular? Would you like a copy of Dreadfleet?" every few minutes.

Yeah I did it with the RTB01 Marines and the RT Ork boxes, still have them in a draw somewhere along with the 25 year old blutac i stuck it on the wall with.

I was gonna add something sarcastic about using them as boxes you can store stuff in, then remembered that only applied to the old two part boxes.

Er so yeah, thanks for the suggestion.

I use my boxes for storing of bits and for spray priming my models. You can throw away the small ones and keep the big ones to do this quite well.

Ummm...somewhere...

I think that best use of warhammer boxes is movement trays if you play fantasy. Just cut out your desired size, and then cut plastic sprues to fit around as a border. Works like a charm

I did that too, but it was a box of Khorne Berserkers and I used the still warm blood of a virgin.

More of a gentle poke at the pastiche of a wargamer brought about by an unfortunate connotation, though I'm sure Howard saw that. My apologies if not, no burn intended old chap.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I have a huge pile of clipped art from the boxes I had been collecting for way too long. I've bought the foam board to mount them on, have even sorted them into categories (Chaos, Space Marines, IG, Orks, Misc cool stuff, etc...)

Now I just need to find the time to do this. I've had it on my "to do" list for... oh, maybe 15 years now.

I save boxes for bitz too, but only the 2-piece kinds of boxes. I had 3 COD building boxes, build stuff and put the rest in one of them and tossed the other. I have a carnifex box filled with nid bitz, a razorback box with SM stuff, and my original baneblade box has all my spare IG bitz.

Other than that, I just toss out the boxes when I'm done.

They had one in the April 2012 copy i think for the new paints/ models.

I can't get around the fact that there are photos of actual models painted like that, cartoon style. There are countless mind blowing pictures to choose from and they go with such a painying scheme for a grimdark universe... What I mean is for example the 5th cover from the front looks impressive, turn it around and you see orks worth of gummibears.

How could I look away?

Dude, just because you don't like the style doesn't mean everyone else does too-everyone has their own style preference.

Besides, Orcs/Orks are supposed to be cartoony and bright, in a violent, mentally challenged way.

It's not about preference, it's about schemes on model photos not fitting the artwork and the mood, dude. Every person I showed them to that is not into hobby instantly claimed that the art is great but miniatures photos look childish. I like colorful and clean painting schemes on 3+ pet miniatures, I go crazy with buying those for my kids to have something beautiful.

That's abut 5th edition and boxes though, miniatures look much bettter in 6th
