Hails to all that read this. Recently my friend ktbb22 decided to try her hand at painting miniatures and wants to try playing
40K soon. Because she's not a 'blogging' sort of person she's agreed to let me chronicle her modeling endeavors.
She's just starting out and brand new to the hobby as a whole. She's already an artistic person and I'm certain that with some practice and research of the right techniques she'll become an excellent miniature painter in no time. She's already better than I am, though she disagrees.

I'm going to help with some things to get her started, but I'll be sure to note those instances specifically. The vast majority of work displayed here will be hers.
She painted her first model less than a month ago. She also built most of it as well. It's a Havoc w/ Heavy Bolter for a
CSM Undivided project I'm working on. I was putting things together, she asked if she could help, I said yes, it came out great. I'll post a pic of it here in a couple days.
Back to the Daemons- she decided on Plaguebearers to start with because I scored a great deal on eBay and I already play Plague Marines as my primary
CSM army. Here's the timeline of what was done so far:
August 2nd 2012- scored these on eBay:
August 14 2012- Plaguebearers arrive!
If these had been 'mine' I would have likely just kept the paint job they came with, would have simply given them a green / brown ink wash to bring them in line w/ the rest of my army. But since this is her first real attempt at painting and building an army, we decided to start from the beginning. We used a 50/50 mix of Simple Green and Mr. Clean
August 15 2012- 24 hours later, stripped and washed:
Getting ready to reset 34 bases-
Notice how beat a lot of those bases are. I'm recycling old bases from the bottom of the barrel. For the first time in memory, probably since I started collecting bitz, I am almost completely out of 20mm round bases. I have a handful left, and they are in rough shape. The ones in the pic are the best of the best remaining.
A slight conversion-
I did this work simply because the stock model position was unstable and pitched forward when I touched it. In modeling terms it's an awesome pose and I really like it. In gaming terms it is at best impractical and at worst a chipped paint job. Here are a couple pics of one that is converted and one that is still stock:
Family photo w/ all bases attached-
Last task of the evening- primed and ready for paint!
She chose the gray primer instead of white or black because she wants a lighter tone overall but not 'bright' per se. Right now she's researching painting techniques and I expect we'll have a color test to share in a couple days.
Again, the majority of work here is by ktbb22. I only helped her w/ mixing up the stripping solution, scrubbing off some of the models, put bases on some of the models, and did the minor conversion work. I'm offering advice where applicable, but she's in charge of whatever happens with this project. Eventually she will have minimum 2K points w/ a fair representation of Nurgle and Khorne. Blood and guts united once again!
Thanks for reading, more coming soon!
