I'm really not sure what I think of the alt-fantasy approach. It's neat that it's not your standard fantasy fare, but I'm kind of tired of figure ranges with game rules that have limited usefully ness if they're not bundled together. I don't yet know enough about Fanticide.

Is there warband rules for typical fantasy miniatures? A warband building system perhaps? Something to support my existing collection?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Everything I know about it (card-based activation, etc..) http://blog.pinsofwar.net/fanticide-new-game/

Dunno about the Warband stuff.

I don't have an issue with kickstarter, but I have to wonder if people who start them stop to think for a minute if the are launching their kickstarter a bit to soon or close to other kickstarters which may abate some of the pledges.

Because they're trying to be edgy.

Perhaps it is to warn people the game is intended for an adult audience?

If this is the case I would say they could have done something else, but perhaps since that seems to be a universal symbol for age restrictions they wanted something familiar for people.

And to prevent parents from complaining and going on a moral crusade, blah blah blah.

I think you overestimate the relevance of other Kickstarters. They are no more a competition as other games on the shelf-space in a local store are (or used to be).

And as it look atm, there'll be permanently games on Kickstarter from here on out.. at least for a year or so.

Also, where there is competition, there is usually money. That's where you want to be.

In this case, I actually think they could have gotten some synergy out of Reaper's kickstarter. Provided the game has sufficient rules to cover using the models you'd get for it. You could easily have a chain of emails and tweets about "Hey, you got the Reaper Bones kickstarter? How about some rules for those miniatures."

If, however, this game is about their weird fantasy and can't be used with people's existing collections, then it will attract those who like it and that's that.

But the difference between Kickstarter and having a game on a shelf is that kickstarter is a limited time. A company has so much time to get as many pledges as possible within a small window of time.

Having a starter set/Rule book on the shelves is a different matter.

If I were start a kickstarter I would want to make sure I was not doing at the tail end of multiple large projects where there could be potential backer who already spent their hobby bucks. It's not that they could not buy the game at a later date (having a game already on the shelf), it's that kickstarter is a time sensitive issue.

Honestly? I think all (!) game releases these days (Kickstarter or not) are time-sensitive.

Games Workshop may not do Kickstarter, but they sure as hell spend 99% of their time to build "blockbuster-releases" to capture the customer's spending binge that comes with it, or try to create artificially limited releases (Dreadfleet anyone?).

Noone buys a game these days that has been sitting on the shelf for a year, precisely because there is a constant stream of new always.

And you got to release at some point. Like a smaller B- / or Indie-Movie, you just have to accept at some point that there is "always" some hollywood blockbuster about to be released and just try to pitch to your particular niche anyhow.

Kickstarter is just how the littler guys get their games out there now, and what some bigger guys use for preorder tools which is something it does very well. Hell I wouldn't doubt it if GW jumps on the bandwagon some day with one of their specialist games.

They probably could have waited till Reaper and a couple others were done, but who knows what else is going to spring up on friday, or next tuesday. This one's not for me, but I hope they succeed

Yeah.. but I'm fairly sure the Electronic Software Ratings Board has restrictions on who can use their logos... Its not like video games can just put a "E" logo on the front of their boxart for the hell of it.

I'm not sure how well that would go down. GW is a publicly traded company, so how would you rationalise them saying 'please we need money so we can do this' when they have just given out millions to their shareholders?

I know kickstarter uses Amazon payments, but does anyone know if you can use an Amazon gift certificate to support a kickstarter?

I've had my eye on Fanticide, but am short on disposabe income right now, but I do have a $100 Amazon gift card I could use.

No you can't :( I had an amazon gift card I wanted to use for Sedition Wars. I redeemed it first, then went to back it but it would only let me use my credit card.

I am running out of money.

I need to start a Kickstarter to fund my kickstarters.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

noticed this on their page Kickstarter page:

Build Your Own Warband With Your Own Figures...
You can find almost anything in Nowhere! The Fanticide game posseses a full set of Warband Creation rules to make the warband YOU want with the figures YOU want to use! You can create anything from a traditional goblin warband to a lost Roman Legion.

We have talked about the printing of the Event/Activation Cards and the cool acrylic templates.

One of the benefits of Fanticide is that you can use your existing collection to make your own warband. It has a full creation system to do just that if you aren't into the existing warbands. Feel free to design your own with our flexible rules!

The ESRB does make me wonder if you're under 17, can you still buy the book at a store?

The rules include All you need to play with their minis or create warbands with any miniatures you may have. If you go to the website there are some articles about some of the armies made with other figures.

Yes, because the ESRB has nothing to do with it.

It'd be like placing "TV-FV" on the cover of Warmachine: Prime.

Guys,

ESRP rating was done on a cover Mock Up to convey the mature content. It is not on the final cover and was just used here by accident.

Kickstarter is a great tool to make things happen that may not have been possible otherwise.

Will GW jump in? If they can suck up their pride, I think they will. There is no doubt that Kickstarter is taking dollars from their bottom line as week after week the customers vote with their wallets.

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.
