Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

So after reading More Dakka's excellent guide to painting Bad Moons Orks, i have officially fallen in love with yellow color schemes. I always found the yellow armies visually striking, but tooooo damn hard to paint. Now that i have about 1500 points of my orks fully painted as Bad Moons, i'm starting to think of re-painting my SMs as Imperial Fists.
I know some of the chapter's history but Lexicanum was rather vague on how the Imperial Fists go to war. I had the impression from books i've read that they are primarily a very shooty army, with plenty of bolter shots per turn. Is this right though? What special weapons do they tend to favor? What heavy weapons?
I also have the idea that they are very similar to Iron Warriors (only non chaos obviously ). They seem to be an army that specializes in siege and counter-siege warfare, with an emphasis on heavy firepower and solid, tough troops.
Any help/ideas/additional info would be great.
Thanks Dakka
EDIT: Well, not quite repainting my SMs, as i only have the captain fully painted as Raven Gaurd...the rest are all plastics

Melta, multimelta, heavy bolter, Vindicators, ironclads, not many assault marines, lots of devastators and sternguards. Tac-termies, and bolterbacks.

They're big on Terminators and Vindicators for support. GW's studio Imperial Fists mostly have plasma guns, plasma cannons, and lascannons for their special/heavy weapons, while their Terminator has a Cyclone missile pack. Personally, a fun (and fluffy, if not always 100% effective) unit I like to run is Lysander with 10 shooty Terminators and 2 Cyclones. They get to twin link all their stormbolter shots and get the missiles to boot. There are more efficient ways to spend 660 points, but with the buff to 2+ this edition, you won't need the invulnerable save stormshields so often grant you.
Besides, nothing says "These 24" are MINE" like 10 Tactical Terminators and a Vindicator!

Really?
Fluff lends itself to them mostly favoring melta-weapons and heavy bolters. Odd.

Well, considering the Imperial Fists' heritage of excelling at siege warfare and defensive engagements, they have a greater tendency to use their devastator squads in general, and favouring the weapons that are required for that particular area of warfare, i.e., multi-melta/lascannons for knocking down siege walls/heavy armour, and heavy bolters to create kill-zones against hordes of attackers besieging them.
Vindicators are a must though (imo).

So, thinking now of using a Pedro Kantor-based character as my HQ, as he buffs Sterngaurd Vets and still gives the fluffy Stubborn rule. What should i use as my second HQ? Should i roll with Lysander to lead some Tac Termies (oooo fluff, delicious fluff)? Or a Librarian for some nice psycher mind-bulletry?
Also, should i what do you guys think of Thunderfire cannons now that 6th has arrived? Never played a game with or against one. Also, does the price of the gun include a techmarine gunner? or do you need to purchase him separately?

Go with Lysander, but having both him and Kantor is rather expensive. Makes for a hell of a great game if you are playing a big enough points battle to support them. MotF with conversion beamer is cool too, if you wanna try something a little different from the norm.
As for Thunderfire Cannons, the box contains the techmarine gunner. You wouldnt be able to fire the gun otherwise.

Nah, i know they are both included in the box. I meant more as in does that 100 points (or whatever it is, don't have codex on me atm) get you just the gun, or both the gun and a techmarine. The codex entry seemed to mean that it was both included, but i just wasn't sure.

Oh right, my bad
Answer is still the same though. The unit entry contains both the cannon and the techmarine gunner, otherwise you wouldnt be able to fire the gun
