I don,t expect any bonus for relics, there just sat in my reserves for cool climatic moments honestly.

Leading a assult by stormbird and loud rock music from custom modified thunderhawk with giant speakers mounted on the hull just sounds fun. Vietnam wolves lol

Spartan is saved foe heavy ground assult missions.

Yeah be unfair to any late founding as well, 1st to 2nd has the best kit hidden in the reserves but later, has mostly normal gear only.

Late founding would be lucky to have a single scarian, Spartan or great crusade era equipment.

Threaded into a scalp laced with circuits, concealed by the dense tresses of many different metallic tones.
Her eyes were shielded beneath polarised glass lenses, seated in deep golden frames. Lenses on which displays, hidden to all but her, scattered and danced in patterns indecipherable to all but a few. She had been told those eyes were the green of fresh vegetation, as though this was in some way important, valuable.
Beneath her hood, the rest of her face was obscured by a smooth, custom-fitted rebreather, designed to efficiently draw as much oxygen to her brain as needed, keeping her both sustained and optimised. It bore the unmistakable craftsmanship of her brother Barreck's hands. Functional, minimalist, and perfectly tailored.
His gift to her, before they had taken her arms. Replaced them with augmetic creations of such workmanship, had they been sheathed beneath synth skin, nothing in their movement would have betrayed them. The dexterity of them tenfold to that of her original fumbling biological tools. But they were not sheathed, they glinted beneath her robes, as did the sectional cuirass that gave form to her chest and torso.

Unlike many of those in her exploratory company, Liza did not appear unfinished or in some way still bare. To the untrained eye, her intricately scribed augmentation and metal was her skin, her armour, and her clothing in one. Inside it beat a heart that was yet untouched by technology, albeit monitored constantly. The fluttering rhythms and changes of pace fascinated her, where they distracted or disgusted her peers.
Where she had skin visible, it was near seamlessly integrated with her machine being. No scarring or reddened flesh marred her body. Every part accepted the machine god's gift as though it had always been there.

And then there was the storm of her fine, trailing mechadendrites, "tentacles" the humans aboard crudely called them. They flowed as constantly as the tide, never stopping unless engaged with a task. Some slim, some capable of lifting a man or machine with barely a thought. And such things were.

Liza kept her human name. When brought as a child into the Mechanicus, very little had been her choice, and she accepted her position with dedication and unmatched enthusiasm. She sought knowledge to aid those around her, not for personal gain. She understood the core values taught to her, as more than code, they were thought. Instinct.

And yet Liza kept her human name, her heart, and her eyes. The few parts of her life that she could always truly call her own.

Very nice, a good departure from the standard mass of writhing tentacles under a cloak we usually see in the AdMech. You're really knocking the ball out of the park with some of these ideas.

Thank you. I wanted to put her into CoF, but I feel that she deserved more opportunity than ship mechanic. Hopefully other than fixing Knights, she won't be relegated to the garage.

I did have a scene that never got used because of this.

"You are an interesting man, Lord Captain," Liza allowed a mechadendrite to brush his shoulder, "and that is quite an augmetic."
"Uhh," Fairfax found himself almost fumbling for words at the compliment, "well, it's a necessary tool of the trade for someone in my position."

Selka turned his head and gave Edward an expression of unbridled mischief at Reynard's discomfort, You mean he went for an upgrade? he mouthed silently and wiggled an eyebrow suggestively.
Edward stared back at him with glacial patience, An integrated toxin extractor. He rolled his eyes.
That's not funny. Selka dropped the grin and appeared petulantly bored.
Like I would know if he had anything else.
"...Shut up." Garth looked away from Edward and scowled.
Fairfax turned his head a fraction at the remark and gave a puzzled expression.

I don't see the harm in having a few of relic vehicles around. It's not about having an advantage over people who don't have them, because like you say the rolls are what determines the outcome. It's just a case of having something fancy in the armoury to write about.

On an unrelated note, my roster will be something like this;
Marbas Praed, chaos lord
Kraft Vermak, apothecary
30-40 chaos space marines
10-20 raptors
8 berzerkers
1 thunderhawk
1 stormeagle
~200 human pirates, deploying via arvus lighters

I am bringing a couple of old vehicles, but I figured the Astral Claws could have inherited them from their founding chapter, or else stolen them since turning traitor. At any rate, the vehicles are mostly for deployment purposes to get people into killing range, so don't worry WK, I won't be using the thunderhawk to decapitate any knights.

I'm just curious, while we aren't controlling ships in orbit apart from Fairfax, realistically are they expected to just ignore one another? Like if the CSM are in one battle barge and drop off next to a SM vessel, hey, that's peachy?

Kharne the Befriender wrote:Honestly, I'd be fine with you having a Stormbird. I think every faction should have 200-300 people and be able to have a Relic Vehicle for every hundred men, so about 3

Well, 200-300 people is a far more conservative view on 40k warfare, makes a lot more sense too, and would allow far greater losses and less personal ones as the conflict goes on.

However, not all factions are created equal, and 200 Astartes would far outmatch 200 Guardsmen.
The scaling between factions would need to be adjusted to roughly level factions, unless you want your force to be smaller and less of a military force: more of a scouting or expeditionary one.

Also, what classes as a Relic Vehicle for Tau or Tyranids?

And how rare are Kharybdii and Dread claw Drop Pods?

Depends on how old the Chapter is, but for the Carcharodons Astra, I'd say that most Drop Pods are standard, due to ease of recovery and manufacture, but there could easily be enough "relic" Drop Pods for the more elite units (1st Company etc.).

Just as a general issue, I'm not sure why there is such an emphasis on actual military potential and having the "big guns". At the end of the day, it's still decided by rolls and being story driven, isn't it?

I should interpret what I originally meant. While Marines should have about 200 men, the Guard should have not 200 men but maybe 400 or 600. Something that is equivalent in battle prowess, not actual numbers. Tau might have a Tau'nar or a couple Mantas. Tyranids might have a couple Dimaecharons or Hierodules. Etc. And I think I'll give my more elite units Kharybdii, and the rest Anvillus.
But yeah, I'm saying everyone should have an equal force power wise, but definitely not number wise. As far as relic vehicles, I don't mean for them to affect in game rolls or mechanics, I'm simply using them as a fluff mechanic and maybe the basis of a few sub plots

Giving a size to my cadre is something I'd rather avoid. I have a general size, but the actual details on squad sizes or amount of squads is undisclosed.
This is what I set:

Contingent Headquarters
2 Hunter Cadres
3 Infiltration Cadres
3 Optimised Stealth Cadres
3 Air Caste Support Cadres
1 Heavy Retribution Cadre
2 Ranged Support Cadres
3 Orca Shoals

All bar the 3 Manta Gunships that are confirmed.

Worth far more than 250 Marines, with hotshot on every and carapace armor, along with skill, probably closer to 500, while my number is more in the 1500 ballpark.

Or a single multilaser. Or my Only War character would could down an NPC marine in three shoots or less with a good roll.

As for your Dreadnaught, I got melta guns and Valkyries with lascannons, although in Cadian Blood they charge the Dread and disable it by killing the pilot with their Hellguns.

I don't think you could kill a marine with 3 shots unless you had a good roll. Armour 8 and Tb 8 mean you'd have to roll 10s to even start scratching a marine.
