So what would be the best/cheapest Ork Ally option to man a Quad Gun with the AGL? It would be awesome to get Telion and some Scout Snipers (unsure of the lingo) or Eldar Rangers or something, but what would the best HQ to bring with them? If I bring Eldar, it will probably be a Farseer for his psychic defense, but I have no idea what else I could bring, especially with the Marines. The other issue is that these two options are Desperate Allies. I have little to no idea what kind of units I would even want from the 4 Allies of convenience: Chaos Marines, Imperial Guard, Tau, and Necrons, other than Broadsides.

What have other Ork players been bringing as allies, and what combinations have been working?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

And IG CCS would be a beast in there and pretty cheap. Give them all camo cloaks, and some sniper rifles and call it a day for that. Then youd have a bunch of sniper rifles popping off shots, a BS4 operator of the quad gun, and a +1 to cover saves thanks to the cloaks.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK I got some totals real quick. A CCS w/ camo cloaks, 4 sniper rifles would be only 90pts. That also allows you to use the commanders orders, which can make the quad REALLY badass. And if you want to make sure the orders always work, drop 1 sniper rifle and take a vox caster for the same points total.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

But since you have to take a minimum of one troop, don't forget you need them. Good thing you can buy cheap platoons for cheap bodies that you don't care about other than the cover saves they give your boyz

Well of course! Good thing Guard can come cheap as all get out. So a bone stock squad of Vets costs 70ish points. So 130ish points to not only man the quad like a boss, but have a unit to wrap it to help buy some time. Or be smart, and stick another heavy weapon in the Vet squad OR give them some plasma weapons and let them smoke anything dumb enough to come looking for a trophy kill

A unit of grots mans a quad gun pretty well. BS3 with the reroll isnt bad.

Put a big gunz unit on the quad gun and have toughness 7 grots.

if allying IG don't forget your 130 point vendetta gunship(s) 1-3 in a squad and 3 tl las cannons at bs 3 ... anti air and anti tank and while pricey for 360 points 9 tl lascannon shots that can hit fliers or destroy any armor out there

Yeah I'd get a vet squad. Give em camo cloaks for a 3+ save, and they're packing 3 special weapons and a heavy weapon, and since you're orks, they'll score. Put ol sarge on the gun, and now you can precision shot on a 6 (shouldn't be hard with 4 TL bs 4 shots) You could also do this with the CCS. Give them an autocannon for example, and 3 plasmaguns, and that'd be 9 S7 shots with 24", and 12 within 12". that's not too shabby, and the CCS can help deal pain as well.

It basically becomes a loota squad that scores and can actually hit things

I think a single vendetta would be enough though. Squadrons cannot split fire, and there is little point in shooting nine lascannons into something. Rather get a manticore a squadron of LRBT for those points.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Grots actually work quite well, since they are often completely obscured by the protective walls that surround the quad gun - more so if upon the top of a bastion. Keep one on the Quad Gun to keep a look out for fliers.

It's a neat combo, particularly if combined with Big Guns (as stated).

As for allies... KingCracker has some nice advice.

I third or fourth the grots. I like the big gunz with them or just a squad of grots. Many times I will have a Grot squad camping on an objective the whole game behind the Aegis defense line. Might as well have them doing something right?!

Other than that, I agree with IG however I like a lord commisar BS5, put him with a squad or platoon of men behind aegis defense line. He is wicked good and with the reroll he pretty much will not miss. Had someone use this very effectively against my Dakka Jets

I think as far as allies go, a CCS would be where its at, even over a better BS leader like the Lord Commissar. Yes, he is BS5 and the gun is TL, so it pretty much wouldnt miss. BUT BS4 TL is slightly better than BS5 alone, AND you can add another heavy weapon (Like another Auto cannon?) and some special weapons like plasma rifles, then the camo cloaks for a 3+ cover save for the whole unit? Now which one would you rather have? A simple BS5 gunner? Or a BS4 gunner with all those pretty toys?

I see your point, but usually if I use allies, which with orks I rarely do, I usually take as few as possible, a lot of times it is for the BS5 guy, but I see your point, esp with chamo cloaks, although I think you can give your lord commisar one too right? not sure.

Try Coteaz and some Henchman. Use Coteaz for his BS 4m pop him with some Lootas, you have a great base controller. The Acolytes come 4ppm with Lasgun and pistol, so for 12pts you fufull the troops. You can then add on Plasma, Melta, Powerfsits, basically all the stuff Orks don't have. Or add more Acolytes, or Deathcult Assassins, or Jokaeros, or Servitors for something shooty. And you could also add in an Assassin if you had points. Nice cheap Eversor to either man the Gun at BS 8 or just rampage.

Add an Interceptor Squad later or Strike Squad for protects againdt reserves coming in and you are set.

Wait, can they ally?

Forget the allied aegis gunners for a minute and consider the alternative.

BS3 grots as part of an artillery unit (cannons) have access to 3 ammo runts. The ammo runt can tl any shot from the t7 gun grots including an Icarus lascannon.

Also lootas at bs1 from going to ground behind an aegis can shoot at flying targets.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

What is your end goal with the ally? Guarding objectives/massacre/etc? I have been running CSM Daemon Princes with Lash to yank IG enemies from their comfy 3+ cover saves... backed up with the regular chaos marines with IoCG (with or without a quad gun). I only run just enough of them to unlock the heavy choices and take some defilers. I am excited to see what the new hellbrute will do with the Orks. Hopefully it will fill in gaps where the Ork army lacks. But the two lash princes with a 5 man squad of CSMs alone is a pretty good addition for a little over 300 points. It really fills in the gaps that the new 6th edition change in Fleet lacks.

on a quad gun, BS8 is no better than BS5.

I also run an "Orkcron" list with two night scythes with warriors inside (HQ choice with them--Generic Lord). They can dump out warriors next to opponents' heavy units and glance away to victory! But the Tesla from the scythes is extremely ineffective once the horde of boyz closes in as it will arc and fry them as well! but for about 420 points, you get 2 5 man squads of warriors (distraction throw away units) and 2 flyers.

It's even fluffy. Orks have stolen them a couple of times, and it's always ended up with hilarious results. Read the rules for it sometime. It's the orkiest thing you can imagine.

Take a look at fire- warriors for tau; They got a 30 in range with a s5 gun, and if you put some markerlight drones in there, then you can up their bs to four for shooting.with boys in front and tau in the back, you'll be shooting and krumping the entire board.
