Just Curious. how are people basing their colour choices for their teams ?.
with 40k there was book fluff and games and posters to get ideas from or to strictly follow chapter by chapter but without the fluff for infinity i was just curious.
thought it might be fun to throw some pics around and see what there was out there. alas i cant start us off as mine are being soaked in paint stripper

I wanted to give a dark Spec Ops color scheme
It's no way a great pic, but it does the job I think
More pics in my gallery
I'm supposed to work on some more minis and take some photos of my whole forces sometimes...
Take better pictures of what's done too

I usually look at the fluff and ask myself "what would fit?"
For Bakunin, I chose a bright grey/blue color as primary colour, mainly because it's a good colour I like. A dark red/purple became secondary, and for terrtiary I try to differentiate as much I can between models to represent how varied the parts of Bakunin are and how each model comes from it's own part of the ship.
For my Shasvastii, I just finally figured out my scheme. Their armour is done in a light brown colour, whilst their skin is a dark blue. The skin color fit's niicely with gribbly aliens, and the blue/light brown remind me of beaches, so I figured I'll fluff my Shasvastii to be some force specialized for infiltrating and assaulting beaches and shores.
And as for my Acontecimento... I'm still thinking. All I know is that there has to be something green in it

Coming up with a background helps. My shasvastii have a from the swamp thing going on so i did natural colors of brown, tan, and green. My yu jing on the other hand are police types so i went with the yu jing orange and yellow with grey. They are also traditional budhist shaolin colors.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble figuring out a scheme for my own Shasvastii, to the point that it's really holding me back from even starting on getting them painted at long last. Think I may have cracked it, but need to see if I can handle grey/white skin

For my force, I consider that most modern forces will have at least a little bit of mimetic equipment on all their troops so I don't get hung up on specific "campaign camo" schemes since they could be fighting in any environment. So, like with my Battletech stuff, I tend to go for more "parade" schemes.
My Yu Jing scheme was cribbed mostly from using colour symbolism from Chinese opera. Most of the force is painted red (devotion, courage, bravery and also the traditional colour of the mask of Guan Yu). I will then tend to paint any actual "masks" either white or black depending on the specific unit (white tends towards deceit and sneakiness, black towards being fierce or bold). Though I am starting to integrate other colours in to the scheme (I am thinking of repainting my Wu Ming with some green on him to represent being impulsive and violent). Ninja get painted all black with slight red highlights (and some of them are painted with half a camo scheme because I think it looks funky).
Meanwhile my Japanese units are going in a slightly different direction. I see a division in available units. There are the traditionalist units like the Domaru and Keisotsu that share a white/red colour scheme and tend to look very regimented and uniform. And then there are roudy units like the Haramaki and Aragoto that will be getting bright red and orange paint schemes and get little free-hand decals and logos on them (still working on the exact look but think Kaneda's bike from Akira... but also applied to Haramaki power armour). Still not sure exactly how I will do the Oniwaban and Karakuri. For the former I think I may go all white on it just to make it stand out. The Karakuri may get a "traditionalist" paint scheme or perhaps something more neutral to show of its more inhuman nature.
Meanwhile my Nomads are getting painted up with a lot of deep blues and browns for their uniforms but a lot of garish neon colours for things like hair and other bits of the uniform. Kind of a mix between 80's punk and SWAT Team.

Hi,
I also used mor natural tones for Shavasti...like this...
My Morat are an army...I wanted them to look like one...
My PanO are a techno-freak human army...so I try to have them in grey and blue tones...adding some green for the jungle fighters...

Medusa, how do you do to get the colour tones on your Shasvastii? I would really love to learn how to do that!
Here's my scheme, though no model is done so far (still has a lot of highlighting to do, as well painting some unpainted areas!)
Oh, and please tell me your opinion on the highlighting on the arm. I'm seriously considering changing it in some way...
Oh, and a group shot of my painted Nomads.
Edit: God I need to fix Clover's face some day She was the first Infinity fig I painted, and I had never painted a face before... Eyes even less.

I'm staying with a slight variation of what's in the box art for Haqqislam minis, myself. I think the colour scheme of greens and browns works well for that faction.

i've decided to do mine similarly but instead of green to go for a deep red which seems to be working out quite well
Out of interest is anybody else tempted to paint up a custodier in a similar scheme to tali from mass effect? ( I havent got it yet im still figuring out how to paint my space ninjas)

Seeing as Infinity borrowed heavily from Mass Effect in some places, I think that's a good idea. You should also check out the buildings from Sarissa, they're perfect replicas of ME Hab units.

Cool. There's so many versions of costumes now. DCU Online, New 53, Earth 2, Injustice, Classic etc.
I wish there was a basic painter program for some of the factions. Like Bolter and Chainsword has for marines and a few others.

@JazzGB: No problem...now I´m not too happy with the colors...I will have to give them some more layers
@The CF: I used alot of Washes on the skintones...on a green color (think it´s vallejo dead flesh) the purple is done with Vallejo purple mixed with a grey...

I actually have done something really similar to Medusa's Shasvastii skintone for my brother's army.
You just need to start with a really flat, neutral color (I used GW's Rotting Flesh--which Vallejo's Dead Flesh was a really close match to) and then apply heavily watered down washes or glazes to 'tint' the flesh.

im so glad people are sharing and showing..
hopefully will have mine at least ready for the first colours this weekend. my good friend has bought me a Haqqislam tank thing. looking forward to constructing and painting that as well.
im am still torn between colour schemes, the sensible side of me says , digital urban camo, part of me says bright and vivid and unique, ans the historian side says desert colours and sand tones. .. may just have to just keep trying and see what i like

Or you combine them! Bright Sand Camo!
medusa wrote:@TheCF: Try it! It looks more complicated than it is...
I used to use washes a lot Then I stopped to try and hone my skills in shading myself. But now is the time to learn how to use washes effectively!
I did apply some coats. I didn't get as much of an effect since my shas has such a dark skin tone, but it did help soften the transit between tones!

The base is resin from SecretWeapon.com it's the blasted marsh set. They have a bit of a lip to keep water effects in. Here's another pic with it. The Noctifer already comes with the stone steps.
The water effect is from Vallejo. I'm going to need to make some terrain pieces with it because it's a big bottle. I added a bit of flesh wash to make it a murky swamp look. The reeds are bits of toothbrush bristles.
Edit: I forgot, there is a metal washer on the bottom of them to weight them down, and there is a magnet in the middle for storing them.
