The new errata says disruption pods grant shrouded
the rule book says all skimmers have a 5+ jink cover save
so for 5 points a disruption pod now gives a 3+ cover save to all tau vehicles that purchase one?

That's correct. Disruption Pods have just become a little bit better.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

a 'little bit'? Disruption pods have become one of the most cost-efficient and amazing vehicular upgrades since you became able to add psybolts to a gray knight dreadnought.
Mark my words, every Tau vehicle which they can be taken with will have them going forward by anyone who is at all tactical in their army list decisions.

What's really terrible is that tau in night fighting with these, as long as they stay 12-24 inches away they get Jink, Stealth and Shrouding for a 2+ cover save.

You know of any Tau players that didn't take them already?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Insanity.
For a brief period at the beginning of 6th edition where they did next to functionally nothing. Even then i think the local tau player may still have had them on lists out of sheer reflex.

I was honestly expecting Stealth out of a revised Disruption Pod, not Shrouded.
Anyway, between Disruption Pods, Stealth Field Generators and Agile Barracudas I think the Tau will be the codex of the cover save.
Of course Markerlights, Airbursting Fragmentation Projectors, Pulse Submunition Rifles, Black Sun Filters and Smart Missile Systems will also make them a good anti-cover save codex too.
But that makes a fair bit of sense to me. If the Tau are going to concede the Assault phase to everyone, they really need to be the tops in the Shooting Phase bar none.

What I see happening is two hammerheads and one unit of broadsides camped out behind an ADL. Thats a 2+ cover save by default and with the 72" range railgun there is very little they can't reach out and touch with either the submunition or solid shot.

Add in the fact that the Target Lock actually works again makes Broadsides even better. 3 Broadsides with 2 target locks can take down about 2 Rhinos a turn give or take. 75% change to hit on each. 2+ to Pen. and 4+ to explode. Overall Odds: 31 % chance to Explode each Rhino.
After Exploding the Rhino Nail the contents with a S6 Blast from a hammer head that moved less than 6" for a Large blast wounding marines on a 2+. Hit 6 of 10 marines (rough estimate with scatter) and do about 2 unsaved wounds (rounded up from 1.67). Oh and the hammerhead has a 3+ cover if you're further than 12" from it because it moved.

I doubt an ADL will cover 25% of a Hammerhead.

Doesn't need to. All the Hammerhead has to do is move 1/2" each turn and it will have Jink + Shrouded for 2+ Cover.

Jink + Shrouded is 3+c. Jink is 5+c, Shrouded +2 to cover.
Jink + Shrouded + Flat Out is 2+C. Jink is 5+c, Shrouded +2 to cover, Flat Out +1 to Jink.

I thought jink was 4+/3+. Still, better than nothing.

Ya, but you have to forgo your shooting for that, and now that nightfighting is potentially in EVERY game, it's a huge boon for tau. Especially when they go up against Imotekh armies.

25% of a vehicle facing? Ya, I'm sure it will. Look at the examples used in the book of the rhino being covered by the lower wall, that's not much different in size to the ADL and the hammerhead doesn't really sit up that high off the ground either.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
5+ for moving, 4+ if you go flat out. For skimmers (non-heavy), bikes and jetbikes (and evading flyers, of course).
