So finally made and finished the first tactical squad in my new ultramarines army. I've been painting for ages, but not seriously at all, and this is the first time i've really taken care over my models, and i'm really pleased

The idea is the basic 10 man tactical squad split into a 5 man stay back shooty squad and a 5 man go forward with a flamer and a powerweapon squad. the back squad is pretty standard (i'm a traditionalist) but the forward squad i thought it would be cool to do a sort of khorn beserkers style thing, and use the fact that all marines have bolt pistols aswell, and i think it looks pretty good!

And i'm sure it's been done before, but the sergents got a double chainsaw, because it's awesome.

Let me know what you think and any advice? I know the highlights are patchy, i'm still learning!

Looks pretty good. The loin cloth on the sergeant looks really good. My initial advice would just to try be a little more patient with the highlights. It's a really hard thing to get right (and I certainly haven't yet) but I find if you thin your paint just with a little, put a bit less on your brush and just try slowly draw the line it can finish really nice. With thin paints, sometimes it looks like you've hardly done anything, but it'll dry in nice and quite subtley. If you want it a bit more pronounced, just go over it again. I'd mabye tone down the highlight colour just a touch as well but that's probably just my preference for subtler highlighting.

Other tips would be a nice umber or flesh wash for the chest eagles and with your next squad just give the mould lines a little file before you paint. They just show up a lot in photos, especially on well painted models such as these. (I need to remember to do this more myself).

But yeh, really good. And I dont know what static grass you use but the bases look great.
