So I fully intend on running the Harleystar in some lists with the Baron, 9 harleys, a shadowseer, and a farseer. But What im wondering is how are they outside of the star? What about a 5 man squad with a shadowseer that can still get fortuned if in range from a farseer who is in another unit. I know they wont have quite the volley of attacks but I would feel that they still would be a fire magnet and quite a scare. Granted they would be supported by other units around them. This would probably be used in a Wraith list with many constructs. They could be a nice bail out unit.
What Im getting at is, If I dont have 250 pts for a full unit + 100 pts for a dedicated fortuneseer, and another 105 pts for the Baron or an archon totally around 450 pts..... are they still worth it if I dont go all out on the unit?

In that kind of small squads they might not pack the same potential, but they still do some nice damage. Squads of that size might not be as big of a threat, so they might not get so much attention from your opponent, especially if you are running a lots of wraiths.
Also having two smaller squads instead of one big expensive one might work too.
I have had great succes with squads of 5-6 in small games, like 750-1000pts, but why not try them in bigger games too. Just remember to keep them fortuned with the FAQ'd veil of tiers.

I used to use a minimum size squad to protect Eldrad. Now that they're so much easier to kill though (loss of Veil being useful in this capacity), this is a waste of points.

I was wondering the same thing. I knew they were part of a new deathstar unit, but I'm trying to decide how truely dangerous they are? They look to me like a tarpit unit at best.
Also, who is "the Baron"?

Te baron is a dark eldar hq who is dirty cheap for what he does. It's basicly the cheapest shadow field we can ally in. He also gives +1 to your roll to go first.

I don't have a DE codex and I don't see any HQ unit listed at the GW website called "Baron". Does he have another name?

There's unfortunately no model for him yet.
His full name is Baron Sathonyx. He's a DE character on a skyboard.

Yup. Check him out if you get a chance. He's probably one of the most points efficient HQs out there.

Doesn't the shadowseer give you stealth and shroud? For a big fat cover save in ze open? Even without the harliestar trickery, Harlies seem a strong unit in 6th.

Shadow seer gives you a 4+ in the open and a 2+ in any cover. So that's nothing to scoff at. I'm thinking a 6 man unit including the shadow seer isn't a bad investment. It can operate on its own and can give support to units that are in trouble. It could also be used for more of a body guarding unit to deter unwanted guests.

Which is considerably worse than "unshootable".

Cry me a river, it's no longer 5th and you can get shot from over 24". boohoo. Before you had a 5+ cover save within 24"- now you have a 4+, and a 2+ in cover. Less crying about the old, more pondering on how to use the new

Call me crazy, But I kind of like being able to be shot at. Being a fire magnet is pretty nice when you have 4+ re-rollable saves. Or if you deck the squad out, 2++ re-rolls

Maugan ra with clowns is still a viable idea, best paired with a death jester.

Run it as the death star a few times, then switch to the minimum unsupported unit.
More than likely, your opponent will remember "that unit kicks ass" and throw too much effort at them.
~100 points for a solid decoy is a very good deal.

Flamers ignore the cover save but if they are lead by a seer or archon or baron, that guy will usually be doing all the rolling. Even without cover saves they still have a 5+ invulnerable that most people always try to fortune.
But with what we are talking about here, a 6 man squad, tht could be somewhat dangerous for them. Do sternguard dropping in with flamers ought away could be a real threat. But of the top of my head, I can't think of another instant delivery for lots of flamers.

I've enjoyed running a nine man squad with kisses, led by fortuneseer with runes. Make sure to give him both RoWa and RoWi, so he can reliably cast his stuff even if your opponent has a Farseer. It's a little under 350pts total, so not deathstar pricing, but still quite tough and reasonably hitty.

I run this unit in all my Footdar lists as a counter assault buddy to 2 Wraithlords and an Avatar. 8 Harlequins- Kisses, Shadowseer (206) Its very reasonably priced and with an ADL its forgiving positioning wise making sure to get that enhanced cover save. It also a good hiding place for Eldrad early game. Come mid game Eldrad detaches and the Harlies mulch something the Avatar or one of the 2 Wraithlords are locked in combat with. Trick is its not bloated with upgrades yet it does its one job of counter assault very well while being very durable to shooting. And frankly most of the times my harlies don't get looked at for the first couple of turns. Most of my opponents guns are focused on my warwalkers and other fire support units.

Minimum squad of 5+ shadowseer and fortuneseer. Put em behind an ADL, and have the farseer use the gun.
