Ok, I can't take credit for any of the conversions- my client send all of these to me assembled. The color scheme is also largely his idea- the force is meant to look dirtier and more battle worn than what we normally see in Legion of the Damned.

Overall, I'm rather fond of the results. Here they are:

And also, I painted up a techmarine for this force:

OOOOOOooo so very pretty!

i paint LoTD as well but not nearly this nice, did you use LoTD models then transfer over the heads and arms and stuff? or did you use green stuff to make all the bones?

also how do you paint your black armor? its looks so....well black but not like black hole black if that makes scense.

As I said before, I didn't do these conversions, but I could see how they were done. There was pretty much no green stuff work on these- the core LotD minis were mostly preserved, although there were a number of cuts and head swaps. Most of the arms did not go with the minis that originally had them, and extra pieces were added on, but none of them were sculpted. The skeletal horses come from an older Undead/Vampire Counts sprue.

The black was meant to be a softer black. Most of the time, people paint shinning black by adding stark highlights to the edges of the black. In this case, the black is meant to be dirtier. I started off by painting the area in pure black, then adding a broad highlight across the whole area using P3 Greatcoat Gray. After that, I added a liberal coat of ink over the top of that (to darken it up again, but keep the grey areas a little lighter) and then added in a little extra grey highlighting (using Greatcoat Gray again, and a little more using P3 Cryx Bane highlight).

Thanks.

I posted them up on another forum where they started a bit of controversy about the proper ways to paint fire.

Just thought I'd share.

These are amazing. The use of the skeletal horses on the bikes is down right genius and very well executed. Nice work.

Haha, that's some funny reading. Dark-to-light, light-to-dark who cares. Your bikes look wicked, including the correct/incorrect flames.

Also nice. Love the skeletal horse parts. Brilliant idea that I may have to steal. Love the Techy and Thud gun too. Great paintwork. Really considering an army of them myself now. If only my freehand was good enough for all the flames and bones.

Brilliant conversion work combined with your excellent classic painting, and your client ended up with an amazing set of miniatures. Really great job to you both. Cheers.

Thanks. This is one of those projects where I paint them one piece at a time, and I'm just a little sad that I won't be seeing them all together on the battlefield.
