I would like someone to check my fluff for the recent development of my Viking IG: they are currently opposed by a mercenary group known as the untoten (because they didn't have Saxon on google translate) who seem to have a canny. Knack for cheating death and surviving injuries that would kill most men. Little do the heroes know but the untoten are actually mostly cybernetics made by a tech priest who came looking for STCs and went all cornel kurtz. I'm just wondering what people think about this, and if people like it enough they may just join the heroes and get some models. I'm half passed out right now so if there's anything left out that you want to know just ask.

That fluff sounds fairly reasonable, although the Inquisition might get suspicious

What would the inquisition care about? They're zombies in the fact that the only living part of them is their brain. That's why typical zombie rules of removing the head or destroying the brain are the only way to truly kill them. And the cheating death part is because they get hit in the cybernetics and just keep going.

I smell tech heresy and fiery damnation coming for your army, although there is a slim chance they migth get away with it.

Please explain what about them is heretical so I can remove it. Because there will be an inquisitor showing up at one point in the story so it would be best if I remove that part.
EDIT: let me explain the zombie part. They are no more modified than a senior tech priest. They join the outfit fully human and when they are injured they replace that part with machines. However due to the unsanitary conditions of a feudal world the flesh surrounding the new modifications develop necrosis, requiring further replacement. Eventually the only biological part is the brain. They have free will and feelings so they are not zombies in the traditional sense. Also when one truly dies they are made into a servitor to continue their duty even in death.

It's "die Untoten" (plural) or "der Untote" (singular). And Vikings never spoke Saxon (although both languages are from the same family), they met them when conquering England though.

thanks, and I didn't know what language the vikings spoke other than the runes so my army is kind of a fusion between Saxons, Vikings and other stereotypical Dark Age "barbarians" I'll correct the title. also I though about Saxon because it's a dead language that also relates to the works of Tolkien, also a big inspiration to this army. (I'm using Isildur and eowyn as my lord commissar and my CCS leader respectively)

Vikings mostly spoke various strains of Old Norse, as that was the common tongue of Scandinavia at the time. I think the closest non-extict language to Norse is Icelandic, but I might be wrong, as there's traces in most, if not all, North Germanic tongues.

Hey not to derail the thread or anything, but I'm wondering if another one of my characters may be considered heretical. He's the chieftain of his tribe who through his great wisdom has learned the language of the birds and uses them to keep informed on what's going on on the planet. Would taking to birds, not through sorcery but just by listening to their song and speaking in response be considered heretical?

Not as far as i am aware, he would need to be careful as to when he uses this ability as it may be deemed heretical if viewed out of context, but othewise its just a skill he has learned through study that does not involve the Warp at all...
However, if you have read any of David Eddings books (Belgariad, Mallorean and the extra books in these series) then you will know that most birds are quite stupid and all they want to talk about is their nests
Also, its your thread, do what you like with it

This is correct, Icelandic is as close as you get to hearing Vikings talk in our time.

good thing he has two pet ravens that are his most trusted scouts (literally I themed this character after Odin missing eye and all, if he appears on the tabletop he'll be represented by a Gandalf mini with a spear) they won't blather on about their nests.

What wouldn't they? You would be in the clear with all but the most hardlined Inquisitors, and the bird calls thing is also normal enough

...subtle...
Its quite a funny series of conversations in the books, where theres only one character who can understand them and she mentions that while its interesting, they arent very bright and you quite quickly relise how noisy the world is when you hear words instead of bird calls...
also, make sure that its clear he isnt talking to them with telepathy or any other psychic power, have him make noises when they are communicating so it isnt misconstrued as sorcery...
