Has anyone purchased the new finecast Wraithguard yet? I am curious how the model turned out. I hear finecast can vary from mold to mold so was hoping to hear a bit from those who may have already taken the plunge.
thanks

I wish I could say, but I can't. I have not seen anyone buy them. I think the $60 price tag for 5 models keeps most people away from them.

Although a lot of people have bought the prior models and they are more expensive overall than the finecast.

hmmm... the only people I see with Wraithguard in my area are veterans like me who got them back in the day when they were less than $10 each or could get employees to buy them for them. Since GW jack the price to $15 in 2006 and then higher in recent years they have only collected dust at our local stores.

I can only guess from my previous experiances with a ton of finecast, but my ideas:
They lack any hard detail, so the mould should be pretty solid for them.
They are only 2 part construction (body and back fin if i remember rightly) so again, another good point.
The guns will warp as they are fairly thin though, same with the legs and back fin.
To be honest though, they should be ok as finecast goes.
Atleast they are cheaper now.
They used to be the same price as MAN'z, a unit of 5 of those now sets you back £75 instead of £37.50!
I do want to buy a pack though for some freehand practice as they do look amazing when done with it (plenty of large empy spaces)

Well, I think the models shouldn't have problems if they're charging 122 NZD for them..

It's kind of funny that this is technically the first price reduction in a long time...($60 US / 5 models = $12 / model, down from $17 / model for the metal ones)
I may get a squad at some point, but I haven't yet, so I don't know about how the cast turned out.

The obliterators similarly went down quite a lot actually when bundled into a 3 per box, they are now $52 for 3 down from I believe $25 (!) for 1. I might be wrong on that, but I remember their pricing being similar to crisis suits.

I wouldn't know. I got several gift certificates from the parents and wife at the start of the summer, and among other things I hurriedly bought a small squad of Wraithguard back when they were metal, before they could go Finecast. I won't own Finecast after seeing it in the stores, especially as boxed sets that I cannot see before I buy. Even if the Finecast box gives me a "free" model for the price, I don't care- I consider the higher cost of metal a fair trade for a better material that's won't break easily and/or have casting flaws.
(Incidentally, the metal ones I did get had absolutely no casting errors, and they are a model that's been in use since 1992- I have no idea how old the particular molds for them were, though.)
Plus.... I refuse to buy them as a 5-man set. I don't want to have to drop 60 bucks at a time for a unit (especially when it's for a box that is bigger than a base-size unit!), even if that is what I will end up paying after it's all said and done. I'm perfectly fine spending 10-20 dollars at a time as I paint things, or as a min-size unit and then building upon it.

Sort of hit and miss. Generally the worst Finecast appear to be those converted over from metals, while the best usually seem to be new sculpts designed for it.
My experience with it has been fine, but I do avoid the metal converts.

I ended up plumping for my wraithguard army on Ebay (all metal!). It's too expensive to justify paying full price for it. You're only saving about £5 from buying them all individually as metal blisters - and then you're running the risk of having miscasts. The metals ones I have, i've had no problems with.
For thise curious, a wraithguard comes in 2 parts - the torso, and the head. The head is attached to the fins, and it actuall "slots" nicely into a groove on the body. It's really good, as it means that it's really secure. I don;t think ive had any breakages on them at all.

I just got some finecast wraithguard yesterday. No major issues with bits missing or air bubbles or anything like that. Overall, im fairly pleased. One of the ends of the guns did snap off as the sprue was a bit bent which bent the gun. Same thing happened to my finecast pathfinders but superglue works wonders and they glue back on really well. My main issue witj the finecast wraithguard tho is the flashing. Most of it is easy to remove but the area under their arses where the loincloth meets the rest of the model has a lot of flashing which is awkward to remove. Other bits of flashing are also a pain like under the handle of thegun just below the right hand. Other than that, no major issues.
Done this on my phone. Tiny screen. Sorry for any odd spellings

Thanks for the info! I was hoping to hear from someone that ended up buying it. I haven't actually seen any at my local shop yet.

Well, I bought the old metal models (10 of them) back in 2010, some from GW and some from ebay, and I'm quite happy with them.

Bought some metal ones off ebay then bought brand new box of finecast from GW website. After comparing the two the older metal is definitely the way to go.
As far as finecast go the new models are neither the worst Ive gotten so far (chaos raptors finecast or eldar harlequins finecast close tie for worst ones ive bought so far), nor the best. Good solid buy as far as if you want to quickly get ten wraitguard to make them a troops choice.
But if you have the time and the eBay savvy I still highly reccommend the metal over the finecast. Less headaches and the metal has less blemishes and is more durable. Oddly enough the detail work on the metal and the finecast is about the same. Neither one has more or less detail done. Really just a carbon copy of the metal molding it seems.
I myself will most likely paint the finecast up Ulthwe and sell them to buy the metal ones instead.
