So, I've been playing 40k for years now, and really just got into kitbashing, Am I the only one who loves doing this? I have SW so it's fairly easy, but I've done some cool ones for sure.
I wanted to keep using the pure SW's look in 6th ed but with allies, so I made a custom Marneus calgar, complete with power fists with inbuilt storm bolters, and feed chain. and PW on his belt. I also made an awesome Vulkan model too with BA artificer
just for an added touch. I think I used 6 kits for that one, a BA sanguinary artificer, tac squad flamer tip, wolf pack legs, head, wolf guard terminator heavy flamer hose, razorback storm bolter handle cut and fitted for a flamer handle, and grey knight
halberd, made into a spear. Right now I'm doing a 13th company theme for about 30 models, which I initially was going to use for death company, but will now intermingle with my normal army and just run as pure SW's using ghoul and genestealer
hands, as well as Maxmini wulfen heads. So rambling aside, I'd like to see some pics of what people are doing as far as kitbashing is concerned. Also, on a side note, anyone know where to get warriors of chaos back/cape bits? I'm looking to convert
my wolf guard with them. I looked on Ebay, but couldn't find very many, don't know if it's ok to ask that on this particular forum, but didn't want to make a seperate post JUST for that. Anyways, pics of your work welcome!

I'm slowly stockpiling enough extra pieces to kitbash, but I'm not there yet.
I would if I could.

I kitbash constantly, I play vanilla marines but mix in just about anything I can from other chapters for looks. It's mainly pretty vanilla looking stuff though, but includes Sanguinary Guard jump packs and angelus bolters, some Space Wolf legs and lightning claws, Black Templar helmets, a lot of Dark Angel stuff as well (emblems being the big thing).
As for your chaos pelts, you should probably peek around on the bits sites. Both these have them in stock;

I suppose my kitbash with the highest amount of different kits involved would be one of my vanguards.... Black Templar helmet, Dark Angels (Ravenwing) shoulderpad, Sanguinary Guard jump pack and angelus bolter, assault marine legs and chest, Venerable Dreadnought skull wreath, 2nd edition space marine combat knife, command squad shoulderpad, tactical squad pouches and grenades... not to mention scratchbuilt bionic arm, sword and jump pack plume...

Absolutley, I'd love to hear your thoughts, (and criticisms) on my stuff. I also bought combi plasma from the commander kit on Ebay, and have wolf guard with Combi-Plasma, adorned with wolf talismans, anyways, enough talk, pics soon! I think my current record is 10 different kits for my Rough Riders (not counting random base scenery) Overall though I think my Terranwing is my most comprehensive set of kitbashing. Its the best part of the hobby in my view, finding the right shapes in the existing GW range (with added 3rd part bits where necessary of course )

Not too hard, bit of trial and error but mostly allright. Built it up over a bunch of wire for structure. Not 100% satisfied with the smoke at the bottom, so will likely revisit it at a later date, alternatively make a new one (it's magnetized).

WOW! just took a look at those and those are amazing, you don't mind if I steal that do you?
more on topic my blog is almost entirely kitbashed, because honestly I suck at GS work.

you got it, now I just need to figure out how to integrate the Zerg as allies (that means nids are out, maybe use the IG rules but use converted nid minis?)

Some non- GW makes for unique kit-bashing. 2 Sparrow AA missiles used for a StormBoy.
Tau Drones also come in handy.
Flamestorm cannon on this Dred made from an IG flamer bit, a section of barrol, and a dreadnought arm reversed,
Sometimes the simple ones make the most interesting...A termie with Beakie head and a hammer made from the ends of the commanders backpack.
Cut up sections of ruins can add flavor to any vehicle.
Typical Rifleman dreadnought (2 twin link autocannons) using the aegis defense line guns.
Magnets are your freind. An IG sentinal missile launcher makes a much sleeker Typhoon Speeder.
The same launcher magnetized to a Terminator.
Need an extra Stormshield? Try a 25mm base. Hammer heads are chaos dragon weapon heads.
There are also aftermarket companies that make heads, packs, and other bits to give your army a very unique character.
Sometimes it may be as easy as adding home-printed decals (look in any hobby store for decal paper) and a simple flag made of plastic rod and a printed flag.
Don't be afraid to chop up a model to turn it into something familiar, but still different. An IG Chimera with stepped back turet.
Sometimes you need some serious plasticard to do the trick; an IG Hydra. Guns made from chopped up LasCannons and plastic tubing.
Sometimes a model just dosn't exist for a unit. IG Psyker Battle Squads. However Fantasy Flagellents with a quick gun swap do nicely.
So their you go. Different examples from simple to hard. Just remember though...a bad paintjob can make an awesome conversion look like dog poop and the reverse is also true.

Love the kitbashing, one of the reasons I play 40k. My firts major Kitbash is complete kit bash Company Champion. It used an old 2nd ed metal marine body, bits of the commander pack, a WFB dwarf sheild and some GS.
Working on a Master of the Forge using an old Rouge Trader marine body I found in a bitz box.

I did some easy, low level kitbashing for my Iron Warrior Basilisks. I'm still fairly new to 40k, I've only played for five months and been modeling for about that long so this was one of my first real attempts.
And with my IG I got a little more brave.
