Runnin up on ya.

From Biteninja on Ogre Stronghold (he's typing from his cell-phone while dodging the manager):

Got a look at next month white dwarf today.
Thundertuskx will cost 250 points, has the frost Thule like yhetees, and a stone thrower.
They can move and shoot and so can the riders. Also, the stonethrower missfire only means they can't shoot that turn, no reprecussions!
Golgfag will be 260
our magic got cheaper. Around the 125 range for butchers.
stonehorns cost 250, have 3d3 impact hits, or 3d3+3 if you roll a 10 for charge distance. They also halve multiple wound damage.
scraplauncher 130 points
Ironblaster is 170 points
Mournfangs come in boxes of 2. 3 with command is about 250 points.
we can take lore of heavens, fire, beasts and death. But we have to take 1 mage with our lore.
Oh, and we autocast bloodgruel after any successful ogre spell! (Lore attribute)

I would like to clarify that while Butchers are cheaper in their points cost, they are only Lvl1 and have to buy the 2nd level.

However, thats not a problem as I plan on this configuration.

Lvl4 SM with Lore of the Great Maw, 2 Lvl1 butchers with Lore of Beasts(Sig spell) and a firebelly or 2.

I get the Beast Buff spell(+1Str and +1T), whatever Gutmagic spells the SM rolls, and some fire spells. It seems to be a winning combo on paper.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I was thinking about that too. It makes it where you can actually have a fairly magic-heavy list. And now even gunline is somewhat a possibility.

I have to say that I'm pretty excited.

Everything in the book has a model. Which is odd because the last few army books have had units with no models(Hirotitan, beastmen monsters...)

that makes me think there is going to be a WD rules release, probably Rhinox Riders, some time soon.

While I like the idea of many butchers as unit buffers, I shudder at the amount of work it's going to take to convert all of those models so I don't have 3-4 replicas wandering around the field (that and the cost).

At least they should be able to take a few wounds for the unit during the shooting phase and then regain them during the next magic phase. Unfortunately the same can't be said for firebelly, who is likely to explode due to a super-augmented fireball miscast.

I am horrified to think of the kind of damage a fully buffed stonehorn could do on the charge with a 10+ on the charge roll. Speaking of which, has anyone seen whether the stonehorn/thundertusk will cause terror (I'm under the assuming all ogres still cause fear in the new army book)?

Yes, they cause Terror.

Grut's Sickle is staying in the book as a magic item and it is interesting to say the least.

Its alot different.

Basically, you cause a wound to the unit you are in at any time in your magic phase. and for that entire phase, your Wizard has +2 to cast all his spells. at the end of the phase, you roll 2D6. on snake eyes, the Butcher is lynched by the other ogres and dies with no saves of any kind.

basically, you can get +2 to cast every spell in exchange for 1 wound on the unit and a 1/36 chance(each turn) for your caster to die a horrible death.

So it has become the sacrificial dagger essentially. Sounds interesting.

Weren't there also rumours about tooth gnoblars being dropped?

I just hope they keep all the options from the metal minis in the finecast versions. Left over bits from the metal characters was what sold me the tyrant and slaughtermaster. All you need is an extra body and some arms and voilà, instant unit champion with an awesome detailed weapon.

Gah, sword gnoblars are what made the unhittable tyrant enjoyable. With a great weapon of any description it meant you could get in a lucky shot before taking a wound or two, could really help in a challenge against a characters with high WS/ini like a Vampire Lord or Bretonnian Lord.

I heard there was a good number of Always Strike Last sources but all I've seen so far is the Thundertusk aura. Any others mentioned?

ooops, Nevermind. other way around.

the Yhettees Frost Aura is the same as before(-1 to hit) and the Thundertusk has it. the ASL Aura is different, and specific to the Thundertusk.

Unfortuantely, you can't (not from GW anyway). Ordered the Ninja last wednesday - got an email on Tuesday stating that the model is "obsolete" and that they wouldn't be sending it.

I saw the new WD, all the current maneaters (there were 6 in all) seem to be staying, but they are being switched to finecast.

Also worth noting, that there is no clear 'preview' page at the back of the WD, however, if you flip back a couple pages, there is what I THINK is a preview page, and its rather interesting. Basically, the page before it a list of hobby centers, after it is... something else can't really remember it. The page itself is a John Blance-esque piece of what appears to be a Vampire Count wearing a pirate hat and some nautical themed armor (skeletal octopus on chestplate, dad fish on shoulder pauldron). Underneath it said Count something or other, if you have any infromation please contact Captain somethingorother of the Heldenhammer. Not really sure what it means, but I'm hoping its a return of the Zombie Pirates of the Vampire Coast list...

I know that had nothing to do with Ogres, but felt it was worth mentioning.

Is it safe to assume that Speed of Asurion (sp?) would override the ASL given by the Thundertusk, just like it overrides the ASL given by greatweapons?

That way,then left

SAldiven,I think it would rather mean that the high elves strike at normal initiative (ASF+ASL),the "speed of asurian" ASF description specifies that high elves always strike first,no matter the weapon they're using but it doesn't say they ignore effects that cause them to ASL...
That's how i get it

I hope that Golfag's rules make him worth the 260, as potentially getting 60+ points of magic items on a hero seems really cool.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.

Ogres went up for advance order as of midnight UK time.

I like the new monsters and the plastic rhinox and the cat things but I can't stand the ogres themselves. A lot off them are in finecast and given that the August release vampires are still poor quality (I had to exchange a birthday present) I wouldn't feel too confident about buying them. This release has reinvigorated my enjoyment of my Beastmen herd so I will be getting some minotaurs just to spite those fat b@stards.

Huh, thats interesting. Ogre heroes/lords are $38 compared to the predicted $40. Its a small thing but thats pretty neat (although the maneaters are still better though if you're going for a themed army)

It is kinda weird seeing every single ogre painted in human flesh I suppose

Also Golgfag's story is pretty funny! Hes "The most interesting ogre in the world"
