Need to put 'Imported from Estalia' on there too

They have gotten rid of the art on the front of the boxes, it is now the models on a back drop. This brings the ogres in line with the rest of the Warhammer and 40k ranges.

Not anything special really.

DE had a very strong launch release and an amazing amount of support in their first year. I find it hard to gripe when GW are actually improving in this respect (if not in others).

Welcome to Fantasy. Expect 40K to go down this route too come 6th Edition. It's a shame because I enjoyed collecting all the books, but it's not really feasible anymore. That said, the full colour hardbacks are kind of nice and it might stop me trying to collect every army that comes out

Seriously? This really cannot be the reason, there has to be some rationale with the change. I personally liked the old scheme as it showed they were not large humans, they were a separate race in their own right, now they just look like miniature versions of the average GW manager's meeting.

I think the pink skin approach is purely to make them look better and thus sell more models.

Hmm I thought it was a revert back to the old ogre skin tones or something. Still its not like you cant paint your ogres any color you want

Ogres always used to be pink. Look at Bloodbowl art for the old school version of ogres.

They also never used to be fat-that-is-actually-loads-of-muscle, Great Maw worshipping, eastern-based Mercenaries* either. GW changed their flesh to accentuate the fact Ogres are not human, I can paint mine however I want, I just seriously do not get this backwards step.

*Okay they were Mercs in the past.

Satellite of Love

Love the new Ogre models, but it's hard to decide what to buy when there's no preview copy of the army book in stores. When GW decided to do away with "black box" model previews it would have been smart to at least continue army book previews. A lot of customers plan what and how much to buy based on game effects, point values, etc. Without that people will hold more of their money another week till they see the book. That's a marketing "no brainer", if you want the money sooner rather than later give stores a preview copy when the new range goes up for advance order.

Why is the codex so expensive? there can't be a price raise already?

Actually they did raise the prices on the army books at the time of the last price rise. Must be to recoup all of the Failcast inside them obviously.

And as most retailers would say I believe, people holding onto their money for an extra week doesn't mean they're going to spend it the next one... you end up with lost revenue that you'll never recover. I.e., when there's inclement weather (like the hurricane passing through our area currently ) businesses lose a lot of sales that are not made up.

Not having the army book in stores for people to look at is Going to make them lose sales... just insane.

It DID result in me buying a white dwarf to satisfy my curiosity, but in the end it makes me less likely to buy the army book, as I'll have lost the impulse buy craving for it by then.

Tomb Kings IIRC are exactly the same, this at least gives you two extra ironguts in place of gnoblars. If theres one thing you need its more ogres

(plus $105 vs $120 at full retail!)

Do we know anything about Ogre Magic other than the Passive and Signiture?

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.
