Ehh, seems like shenanigans. Do you really want to build an army around a loophole in the rules?
Cuz I highly, highly doubt the author of the Ork codex thought about this when they put that restriction in.

I figure one of the advantages of the Squiggoth is that units can fire from it unobstructed by firing ports. You will also keep the units it was transporting as it doesn't go Apocalyptic when its taken out.

All this talk of a Kustom Stompa has me wondering. How do you build an effective list around one? `Obviously you want the 4++ from the MFF. Putting a SAG inside would be neat. Its a giant deathstar so adding some MSU would be helpful. That means single Deff Koptas or Warbuggies.
What other killiness do you put alongside it? It is heavy armor so probably something like a pair of battlewagons with boyz. That also gives you the ability to bubblewarp against drop pods and tarpits. What are your thoughts?

I've long wanted to run lootas in big squiggoths, and the few times I've tried it it was pretty damn mint. Sadly at the time that we got multiple CAD the big squig tripled in price and so became unviable for it. I imagine the Gargantuan Squiggoth would work perfectly well in this way - and hell even if it gets tarpitted you have an unshootable loota blob!

Interestingly the Kustom Stompa can take D6 Powerfields ontop of the Mega Force Field.
Other than that I'd throw in some more Walkers and some Mek Gunz probably.

They are in IA:8, but also in the dred mob update PDF, which can be found googling for that.
The D6 powerfields are also affected by a KFF/MFF, so enjoy a 4++ powerfield As far as I know the greatest threat to a stompa is a one-shot kill. Which would typically come in the form of droppod melta, DS melta / any sort of pinpoint melta Personally I don't think boyz in a wagon would be the most effective way to screen it. I would go with grots. They benefit from effigy right?
A max unit of grots is 30 grots and 3 runt herds, stick a painboy in there and you have a pretty darn durable meatshield that requires 9+ grots to be killed for it to be 25% - all for about 150 points. If they benefit from effigy then even better

What on earth kind of question is this? Of course we've used shoota blobs, this is the Ork tactics thread after all
Shoota blobs were the *core* of 6th edition Orks, back when they were fearless. But since we lost fearless and got "roll seven sets of dice to kill some boyz, *then* be fearless some of the time" they truly lost their teeth.
Even so they're still worthwhile, though moving so many models is painful, gonna give them another go in trukks and wagons

I often run shootas. If they're footslogging without a character, they go in squads of 20 with 2 rokkits and bp nob - generally with PK but can do without either.
Sometimes i make shoota squads 30-strong with 3 rokkits when they run with characters. But i generally find that larger mobs are better kept choppas. Shootas are wasting their damage potential due to large footprint and 18" radius. The larger the footprint is - the more they loose. However, when you go too low, they become more vulnerable. I've found 20 is a good number for shootas.

What good does sticking a painboy in a t2 unit do? You are instant deathbed by boltors. If you can scrape up the points always upgrade grots to boys.

Having a blonde moment and thinking grots were a bit more meaty at T3, yeh yeh, T2, i'll either drop the painboy or upgrade the grots to boyz. Thanks for the pointer. As for shoota boyz, koooaei hits their largest issue, that with a max blob you are in effect losing the potential to shoot with them all. The trade-off being that at max size you have more bodies, so will arrive with more footslogging. 20 as he stated is a good number. Personally I prefer BS on my shoota boyz in pretty much all circumstances, but rokkits can be just as handy in a pinch. If you can scrape up the points always upgrade grots to boys.
See currently this is what im specifically not doing at the moment, im trying to build a list that's pretty much extreme MSU. While boyz are far superior to grots they have a few issues when doing MSU. at 60 points barebones for 10, it only takes 3 casualties for you to be testing, Ld 7 means you will be rolling mob rule, which in reality at barebones means you only stay on 2/6, so then a nob and BP means you get a re-roll, but at that point you may as well take a PK and the unit is up to 100 points, which then means you may as well throw a few extra bodies in, as its worth being at the next 25% unit count (13). Whereas currently for that price I can get 3 40 point grot units who are also objsec. Currently im looking at something like this; 2 min grot units 3 min barebones commando squads (50pts) - because at 5 models even with a nob and BP its only 2 casualties for a test and the nob significantly increases costs3 single coptas So the basis being that for about 320 points I have 8 units, yeh they will all die to a stiff breeze, but commandos can start on objectives, have a decent coversave and can GtG for a 2+, grots can run around moving to block paths and score, coptas can outflank to arrive a few turns later to re-cap objectives I potentially lost. All the while the rest of my list is stuff like 5KMK's with a MA mek, a morka with KFF, 5 lobbas. Still working out the final details but I am trying to really saturate the enemies targets.

You still roll mob rule without a char, you just need all models to have the rule. I just can't re-roll with the BP; as I don't have a nob or BP Ah sorry, gotcha; without a char its an auto fail. Although in cases of MSU an autofail is not all that bad. So with a unit of 5, I need 2 casualties, so im down to 3 models, which then autofail. If I had a nob, im taking d6 hits, so lets say 3, at S4 and T4 that's going to be another dead, which is 33% and therefore if I had even passed due to mob rule i'd still have to retest. I would kill myself. Atleast with auto fail at 3 models I can still regroup

Personally, I use the Kustom Stompa to help bring the price down on the Stompa. Helps with buying units else where in the army. After You get the stompa in, you might want to consider some type of damage medication. 2 big meks, unit of burns upgrade 3 to meks, and 2 mek boyz. Totally of 7 repair rolls a turn. You could drop to 6 if you give the SAG to on of the Big Meks. After that I would consider taking some type of support force that could rush up to your opponent's front line. This is draw fire from the Stompa. Mainly because you are going to have a lot of your armies heavy weapons there. Also gives you a mobile force to go grab objectives. I've use trukks to block paths of other super heavies, like Knights, that want to get to the stompa.
The one thing to look out for is a drop pod of melta guys. I've seen my stompa destroyed too many times from drop pod with sternguard in it. Might be why I try to protect my stompa so much. But when the Stompa can just about table anyone. I think its worth protecting.

I'm still not sold on the Morkanaught for the KFF. I have a triple cad list similar to this one with 5 Big Meks, one of them being KFF MA BM with Gitfinda and Killsaw. BS 3 so he fires one of the Mek Gunz. He's deep inside a T7 unit with tons of abbaltive wounds unlike the Morkanuaght.

Pipe care to share how the MA mek in the 'Mek gunz' units worked out? The reason I wanted to use the morka was thus; His large base provides a larger bubble, I intended to flank him with a battery of 5 KMK's on each side, both with MA meks to provide SnP. The max grot blob would sit in front of all three; but still within 6" of the morka, meaning all units would get the 5++. The grots are mostly to prevent melta range and i'd likely have another behind for the same reason. This whole blob of KMKs would basically move towards the centre of the map and combined with the 50 pts kommando units would be the only stuff on the table. The rest of my list I would reserve and try and use some sort of outflanking tactics such as coptas, the D3 warlord trait or the D3 mogrok rule. Once central the grots can be used to grab objectives, tie up units and generally get in the way. The KMKs would just blast stuff all game. I suppose I could achieve the same without the Morka using a bike KFF mek or a KFF mek walking, but I thought the morka would provide a decent distraction and some great assault deterrent, as units would likely end up getting tied up by grots before the morka just gives them a good clawin'. Why did you use the mek to fire the KMK? grots are already BS3, i suppose he can use his own ammo runts?

Is it D6? Because as I was reading it this morning I became concerned that it was only 1 power field.

The idea was if bubble wrap is needed the Boyz are outside the wagon. Putting them in the Wagon allows them to better keep up with the Stompa and also gives them a delivery system if you need them to do some killing.

Im afraid I can't confirm D6 powerfields, but I see it often and am under the assumption it is so. As each field also restores on a 5+.
Fair point about having the BW so they can hop in. Still not hugely convinced for the following reasons;
The BW is 110+ points - So your already spending a good 200 points just to screen your stompa
I think you might find that for a BW that might be sitting around for a couple turns that you've got a lot of points doing not a lot.
Whats your opinion on the following?
max grot units - are fearless and only cost about 100 points in total 3x gunwagons -they are about 60 pts each, can take individually or you could take 3 in a squadron, so you'd get 2-3 for the cost of 1 BW. They can be used to directly screen. no need for boyz, you can move, pivot and then move the stompa, using the hulls to protect. same as above using big trakks, load each with a Big lobba - same protection but they fire 3 barrage Str6 large blasts - ruin someones day Boyz without a wagon, by the time you'd want to mount your boyz into the BW they have probably moved enough to go their own way? Use multiple boyz units at 12 models and use trukks? for the cost of a BW you can bring 3-4 trukks, they can also screen, can be objsec and in a pinch you can send off a couple to pick up stranded units - I have a strong belief extra trukks can be so valuable

My overall thoughts were like this:
Great Waaaaaagh
Big Mek - MFF, 'eavy armor.
Wierdboy (ML2) <- Could swap him for a Shokk Attack gun or Powerfields or VSG. Rides in the Stompa.
Mek <- Either rides the stompa or the Battlewagons
Mek <- Either rides the stompa or the Battlewagons
2 burnas + 3 Meks <- go in the Stompa.
10 Boyz <- Go in the stomp get dumped out on objective
10 Gretchin + runtherd <- Go in the stomp get dumped out on objective
17 Boyz + Nob ( PK, BP) <- Goes in Wagon #1.
17 Boyz + Nob ( PK, BP) <- Goes in Wagon #2.
Deff Kopta (Rokkit) <- Outflank. MSU scoring.
Deff Kopta (Rokkit)
Deff Kopta (Rokkit)

Battle Wagon ( RR, Rokkit)
Kustom Stompa ( 2 Deff Kannon + Gigashoota, Flamebelcha, Deff Arsenal, Supercharger, 2 Big Shoota)
If my opponent isn't deep striking melta, I deploy the Stompa flanked by 2 battle wagons with everything but the Deff Koptas inside. Possibly the MFF hiding behind to give the Battlewagons a 4++. If they are deep striking melta, I deploy the boyz outside to bubblewrap the Stompa.

The BW is 110+ points - So your already spending a good 200 points just to screen your stompa
I think you might find that for a BW that might be sitting around for a couple turns that you've got a lot of points doing not a lot.
The Battle Wagons are an offensive force as well. You send them out to kill stuff. The only reason you keep them near the Stompa is if you are trying to bubblewrap it against deep striking melta, and you really only do that at the start of the game.
I own a total of 30 Gretchin. Gretchin are slow and can't keep up with the Stompa. They give opponents something to shoot at with any guns or blast that can't hurt the stompa.
Solar Shock wrote: 3x gunwagons -they are about 60 pts each, can take individually or you could take 3 in a squadron, so you'd get 2-3 for the cost of 1 BW. They can be used to directly screen. no need for boyz, you can move, pivot and then move the stompa, using the hulls to protect.
I thought about Gunwagons. They are my favorite ork transport unit. The reason I went with Battlewagons was the transport capacity is bigger (also I have 3 of them). My Experience with Tyranids is that you need about 40 - 60 bodies to effectively bubblewrap against drop pods. The Battle Wagons can carry groups of 20. The Stompa carries a few extra if needed.
Solar Shock wrote: same as above using big trakks, load each with a Big lobba - same protection but they fire 3 barrage Str6 large blasts - ruin someones day
The Stompa has you covered on blasts. Plus S6 is wildly abundant.
Solar Shock wrote:Boyz without a wagon, by the time you'd want to mount your boyz into the BW they have probably moved enough to go their own way? Use multiple boyz units at 12 models and use trukks? for the cost of a BW you can bring 3-4 trukks, they can also screen, can be objsec and in a pinch you can send off a couple to pick up stranded units - I have a strong belief extra trukks can be so valuable
I feel like much of the art of 40K is complicating your opponent's target priority. If they have a bunch of S4-6 shooting or blasts and templates, adding boyz or Trukks simplifies the target priority. You want the opponent to be unable to shoot or waste shooting because of lack of targets.

Some very interesting points indeed the BWs are great for the capacity, but I still think that for a stompa which is already like 800 points adding 200-300 points of units which may be a screen might be too much. The stompa will do some serious damage but you want to screen it as cheaply as possible. The grots are slower, but the stompa you have will put out some serious firepower, perhaps not moving 12" is ok? As for giving the opponent some target priority, with fearless grots who cares, its a very cheap unit who aint going anywhere, same with boyz. I feel that with the stompa the idea you can remove some target piority is hard, all AT is going at the stompa OR he will ignore it and go for the BW's. I dont have any experience with usina a stompa but I think you really want to minimise your bubblewrap while maximising support. The point of Big lobbas is that for not a lot of points you can shoot another target Although as a side note; I really like your list give it a go?

Is it D6? Because as I was reading it this morning I became concerned that it was only 1 power field.
Solar Shock wrote:Personally I don't think boyz in a wagon would be the most effective way to screen it. I would go with grots. They benefit from effigy right?
The idea was if bubble wrap is needed the Boyz are outside the wagon. Putting them in the Wagon allows them to better keep up with the Stompa and also gives them a delivery system if you need them to do some killing.
I believe the D6 Power Fields is from Battlescribe.

Good to see Shootas being used
20 man squads are the way to go? I was thinking of running 10 man squads with 'eavy armour' to mitigate being fired at, maybe even another squad of 10 shootas over the 'eavy armour.
Also unsure about Boss Poles these days, I frequently roll 4-6 (i guess 50% chance does play a part) so it's really not playing a part. How mandatory are Boss Poles for you all?

The reason I wanted to use the morka was thus;
His large base provides a larger bubble, I intended to flank him with a battery of 5 KMK's on each side, both with MA meks to provide SnP.
I forgot to mention he also has DLS if he ever gets into CC. He can see more than a Grot and if he's sitting around doing nothing he might as well be firing a Big Gun. I'd rather have a Gorkanaut next to the BM I decsribed. Much better Counter Assault unit with rampage and more guns.
I don't plan on moving my Mek Gunz, the MA is there to be able to counter-assault anything that gets close. I also have KMB Meks in the squad for Mid range shooting and more ablative wounds especially challenges. Really the only thing that threatens this unit is Super Heavies stomp Attack.

A weirdboy can use Da Jump to get out of close combat, right?
If he is embarked in a vehicle does the vehicle benefit from Da Jump? Would it make a difference if the vehicle were immobilized?

10 probably isn't a great size to pick. As noted 4-6 requires that you have 10 plus models to pass, with 10 models a loss in 3 models is a test, but at 7 models you need a 2-3 to pass or to be in combat with a 1. therefore a size that is more suitable is either 12 or 11 in a trukk (11 for space for a mek), footslogging a size of 13 means you need 4 models lost for a test, but thats still less than 9 when you do test. So a size of 14 is most effective; as 4 is a test and your still at 10 models. However 20 is obviously better for the same sort of reasons.
Boss poles; at 5 points, if 1 boss pole stops 1 unit running then its more than likely paid off all the boss poles in your list. They are very useful when needed

Ah i see, so you used the BM's as more of a CC deterrent, I wasn't planning on equipping them so heavily, just BM, MA, thats like 75 points. Did they see combat much?
