Hi there, I have a friend who plays 'Crons and I just can't seem to beat him.
He usually runs loads of immortals with crypteks backed up by a night scythe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of BA list are you usually running?

advice on battling Necrons
try to ignore vehicles if you can, they will win most of the time
take the infantry in melee and hope for bad rolls for the cron player
snipers are really helpful for taking out things like crypteks and try to focus all firepower on a single squad to put them all down.
dont get within rapid fire range, they will ripe you apart

[b]And NEVER take vehicles[b]

and finally, hope that the dice gods are on your side

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Focus one squad at a time, get in melee whenever possible, and make sure to use weapons gear specifically for anti-armor, like meltas to deal with the vehicles.

Other than that....bring a flyer to shoot at his flyers

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

I usually run a jump pack list, but he has this evil cryptek that makes their movement count as dangerous terrain.

Dangerous Terrain is no longer a big deal, you get your armor save and FNP if you have it.

Against the Necron list you mentioned, the standard 5th edition Jump Pack list (Librarian, Priests, Assault Marines, Devastators and/or Vanguard Vets) should clean up. You can beat the hell out of him in CC, and Crypteks aren't good in challenges against a PF Sergeant. You will get shot up in rapid fire range, but you have a lot of bodies, 3+ armor and FNP. It takes over 10 BS4 S5 shots to down 1 Marine with FNP.

If his list were better, with Warscythes, 2+ armor and Wraiths everywhere, or full-on flying circus, you'd be screwed.

That seems like it could work,

are dreads a viable option?

Aren't dreads armor? Yes! Then no probably not a great choice. I hate fighting crons.

Death company ftw?

Also a furiouso can be devastating vs necrons.

Descent of angels paired with some drop pod death company. Get close fast and watch him squirm.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

So the advice is, close fast, hit hard?

Yes, and avoid vehicles.

A Furioso will do some damage if it gets to charge, but that's pretty unlikely. A CCB Overlord will easily destroy one. A large Warrior squad Rapid Firing will glance one to death. Wraiths will tie him up forever (which can be good if he spams Wraiths, now it's him tying Wraiths up forever).

Yeah I wouldn't take any vehicals. Do you have any guard? You could ally in some guard for some more bodies and long ranged weaponry. Might work well with a fast moving assault BA list.
