in fact that was a mighty stirr in the day life of berlin... i have seen the wreck of that bulldozer...and it must´ve killed him instantly...the whole city felt the aftermath of that and not the last word is spoken in that poor affair... it seems that usually when you dig some basement the ground needs to be scanned first here in berlin due to the sheer amount of not exploded shells still in the deepest levels of the ground here... the story goes that the initiator for that housebuilding choose not to scan the ground as building orders regulate... instead he just ordered the digging...

and yep... that is a troublesome thing that is so weird...
also... the amount of time spent as a kid...or as a working human is rivaled by the time you spent nowadays as an old grunt... really our lives are full of such paradoxes...

Yes Theo, and that is where we get bridges, parks and sidewalks and traffic lights and everything else that makes modern life livable. This myth that only private businesses have a divine right to make money is seriously scary. Municipalities don't generally pocket that money, they put it back into the community and that is where cities come from.

I'd like to see ONE major US City switch over to a "Libertarian" Tax-free way, and then take bets on how long before the roads rot away and people leave in a mass-exodus before they scramble to go back. At least then the ridiculous idea will go away.

Dave all you have to do is look at Detroit Michigan.......wait they didn't switch, but everything else on your list is there . I understand where that comes from but one thing they've done here I. Saint louis is to require an expansion tank on hot water heaters, and a permit to install a expansion tank. When I was at lowes it increased the cost of a hot water install by at least $100.00 on the smallest heater , people started doing their own installs, or getting chuck in a truck to do it to avoid the charges. Which is exactly what happened with the above situation I believe. Someone saw a way around spending a good chunk of cash and did I it, but this time it literally blew up in their faces. I had a customer get a neighbor to do his water heater instead of the install, three days later he came back in to do the install, but we couldn't do it then because the neighbor had flooded the basement and caused structural damage. Should have ponied up the $$$ to get it done right the first time.

Detroit and Gary, Indiana are now both wastelands because of the Steel and Automotive Industries that used to thrive there. Pittsburgh and Cleveland are also part of the same rust belt, but those cities had the sense and the people to invest in some diversification and most importantly to invest in the cities, rather than take their money and leave ruins behind them. The party of "personal responsibility" doesn't seem to think that same thing applies to their corporate payola donors...It's a double standard and the worst kind of hypocrisy that even a small child can see. Only adults who are afraid to think for themselves swallow the kool-aid without the common sense to at least add vodka to it first.

Surely, there must have been a reason for the water-heater fiasco? was the mayor or someone else in cahoots with a big HVAC company or something? Usually those types of ordinances are repayment for campaign donations.

Nobody likes the boss. My favourite answer to most of these kinda questions. we all moan about the costs of living in our world, but to be honest there is probably not a better way around it.

I have PDF of the the really old How To Build Terrain by GW, amazing how they went from brilliant to annoying.

Yeah..now the only terrain articles are about spamming their skull-festooned plastic products together, which is ok I guess, but not as cool IMHO.

Break time
The whole water heater thing was just saint louis city forcing it on the locals to earn more $$$. Only certain types needed them, but it would be too hard to enforce, so instead they make everyone pay for it, unless you replace it yourself. Any licensed plumber had to charge the fee and get a permit, or risk losing the lisence.

Kind of a "better safe than sorry", but we will you for the extra bucks anyways.

Since we're talking Gandalf, we spent the morning out as a family and after breakfast stopped by the humane society to LOOK at pets. I have been pet free for a few years and very happy about it, but when I saw a little dog that was so cute I almost gave in, especially because his name was Gandalf . But I am happily pet free still, except for the three furry ankle biters that keep calling me daddy.

I love pets, I just love other people's pets more , no shedding, dander, wet spots on the floor, and no land mines in the house or yard to try and avoid/remove.

I love playing with dogs of friends...but wouldn´t want to have dog hair in my home for the love of the gods....dunno if I mentioned it...but I can´t smell... so I don't know where for instance a cat might have peed... and I had a cat for some time once... my sis then sometime too late told me that my small apartment reeked....
