I am just starting my BT army and have assembled and painted the following list:

HQ:
Master of Sanctity, TDA, Storm Bolter, Adamantine Mantle

SB Terminator Command Squad x5 w/ 2x Assault Cannons, Combi-plasma, and TH

EC w/ AACNMTO

Elite:
Venerable Dreadnought w/ TL LC and ML, TH

Troop:
Initiates x5 w/ LC, PG, 3x Bolters, Frag and Krak Grenades, and Crusader Seals

Initiates x5 w/ LC, PG, 3x Bolters, Frag and Krak Grenades, and Crusader Seals

997 pts.

EC will go with the MoS and Command Squad and be a mini death star unit while the Initiates sit back and snipe and hold objectives with the Ven Dread. TH should help me take care of any AV and the MoS and EC in the same unit will be nasty in CC.

Thoughts on this list and where I should go from here in expanding my army? I was definitely thinking of more Initiate Squads, ie. 2 more with PC's and PG's.

It looks pretty decent for a shooty list. I would look at the Marshal for the HQ tho. LD 10 will help pass moral test. If the terminators were assaulty, then most deff go with MoS.

just my 2 cents tho. MoS can work just as fine.

Ha it is funny you mention the Marshal....I actually had one in my original list, but did not see the "must be in TDA to take a SB Terminator Command Squad" until it was too late....I had already modeled him with power armour. GAH! A TDA Marshal is on my to make list though.

When I go up in Points do you think that I should keep with only Lascannons or would it be alright to throw in a couple of other types of Heavy weapons?

Chappy needs a fist. You don't give up crozius for it, so you can decide what to use at the time. I would also drop crusader seals from the squads, as IMO they're not worth it. It sucks that we can't make the RZ move less than the full amount, and crusader seals help with that, but 2 pts per model is expensive

Well if you are talking about your troops. Las/Plaz is the best shooty combo out there right now. Typically I run my Templars fluffy, and assault orientated. PF/PW and melta gun. I would Keep the Laz in those squads. Dropping CS would be a great idea. If you are worried about being pulled off an objective, go to ground, then we dont zeal cause we are "pinned". But if its the last round i wouldnt... cause i dont think you can take an objective if you are pinned... i would have to look in to that to be sure.

In 5th ed, i ALWAYS ran a laz plaz 5 man tac squad. Its a great combo. If you get an ageis defensive line, put them behind it for a nice 4+ cover.

Opps, sorry, I did mean my troops. I want to keep one scoring unit per 500 pts as the norm in this army. I will def. keep the Laz/Plas I have currently, but i think for the next 2 squads I work up, I will do them as PC/Plas. I also plan on dropping the CS once I go up in points. I only used them in the 1K list to fill points. My 1500 pt list would look something like this:

Really??? I have never heard of that before?! Is that under the EC's profile? I will have to look this up tonight. But the EC in that list is not going to do much... no assault squads to be part of.

I looked this up and I dont see anything that states the EC can't join the MoS.

Yeah, I never heard of that either... to the best of my knowledge he should be able to go anywhere, to include attaching, and leaving a command squad.

I know the HQ choices you pick for the command squad must stay with the sqaud, unless the command squad is left out and just the IC is left, then he can attach to a different unit.

EC can't join command squad. P31 of the codex state that. Btw I find death stars kind of boring to play...
