What equip should i give my catachan captain? I want him to have a power sword, because in my fluffy army the CCS is meant to lead the attack (i know it's suicide, but i like it this way), but i don't know how to use my last 10 points.
I can buy a plasma pistol for him, or buy 5 bolt pistols for him and the other 4 veteran sergeants. I am really undecided...
My biggest fear is that the plasma pistol might explode, wounding my commander, which is something i would like to avoid.
On the other hand, i don't know if it's even possible to create a catachan model (be it a sergeant or an oficer) equipped with a hand weapon and a bolt pistol... Is it?

Well Catachan sprues come with a plethora of CC weapons

and I know there's at least one sword in there...could always paint it up blue leading up to white around the edge to make it "power swordy" and then green stuff some wires connecting to his wrist or such

and then if you want a bolt pistol if you know any marine or chaos marine players should have at least a couple of extra bolt pistols...

as for equipping your captain with 5 bolt pistols..remember he only has two hands....though he might shoot one with his mouth...so 3 at the Max (har har)

I have some bolt pistol myself, but they are too big to fit a catachan arm...no matter how freaking muscled it is!

hmm I don't have the models in front of me right now so this is just off the cuff...but what if you shaved the bolt pistol down a little bit to try and fit the catachan arm? might work?

Buy him a beastly powerfist instead of the sword and a meltabomb, bam, problem solved, and he'll actually be able to kill things. You've basically got a slightly weaker and much cheaper Straken at that point (yes I know they're nothing alike but he'll still look cool. The catachan fist is far and away the cooler IG power fist of the two company command kits)

Or, you can go for full badass, and give him a second power weapon. Axe or Mace, both would be great choices. Mace is a ghetto powerfist that let's him hit at AP 4, S5, and his normal initiative. The power axe gives him a weaker powerfist that has an extra attack.

Either way, you've got a dude dual wielding power weapons, which will look awesome, and give you some flexibility if you get charged. Commanders can actually hold their own pretty well against most things, and it's not a bad idea to have a small countercharge unit somewhere in your army. Check out Ailaros's batreps, he loves to use choppy CCS's.

Plasma pistols however will rarely get used, and also have the chance of hurting the commander. The only time I use them is when I buy a character who comes with them (like straken) Bolt pistols are same thing, but worse. Yeah they're only 2pts, but you'll probably only use them once, and they do add up. 5 bolt pistols can buy you an autocannon or a meltagun instead, and those weapons are far scarier than any amount of bolt pistols.

You could give him dual powerswords.

Not practical, but looks badass as can be.
