I was checking out some of the Hordes packs, but that would get pricey fast, even though there were a few boxes that looked really promising.

I kind of like the idea of painting up some Death Corps of Kreig infantry as cultists. The weaponry's about right, and the gas masks fit. It just looks like a cult that's more organized, or from an affluent part of town.

I saw someone on here was going to use skeletons as culstist for his 1k sons army.. I thought it was a bloody good idea that I may steel it for myself

I'd use a combination of Chaos Marauders, Cadians, Catachans, Chaos mutation sprues from back in the day, and random Chaotic bits leftover from Chaos Marines, Warriors of Chaos, Chaos Spawn, or what have you. I don't know how cheap this would be, but you'd get a diverse bunch of them.

Alternatively, my friend has been making Cultists for his Word Bearers way before Dark Vengeance came out. He makes them out of Cadians and Empire Flagellants. I think they look fantastic if you want to go for the crazed, wild Cultist look.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Warforge has "greatcoats infantry" that look very similar to DKoK. 18 models for 20 bucks, I'm thinking of investing in some and converting with bits and gs.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I went over some options in a quick article I did for our Podcast's website about Plague zombies after the new FAQ was released. Long story short, I suggested the following:

Warzone Mutant Chronicles - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warzone-mutant-chronicles-80-plastic-soldiers-28mm-scale-tabletop-wargames-/150928387037?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item2324086bdd

These function as both Cultists and Zombies. I found a Buy it Now and got the minis for $.50 per model. The weapons are close enough for easy identification in WYSIWYG.

Mantic Games - http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Kings-of-War/Undead/Core-Units-Zombies-and-Ghouls/Product/Undead-Zombie-Horde-60-Figures.html

These look great for Zombies, but come out to be more per model than the Warzone Mutant Chronicles. The downside is that they come on 20mm bases, so the bases are a little smaller than 40k bases.

18 Tiny Zombies on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/18-Tiny-Zombie-Planet-Figures/dp/B005TC4SX4/ref=pd_sim_t_2

These aren't as ideal. They sound cheap, but shipping is a hidden cost and raises the cost to $.71 per model and don't look all that much like 40k type models.

You could also buy a Bag O' Zombies on Amazon which is $10 for 100 zombies, but they are smaller than cultists. Putting them on a 25mm base helps and gets them close enough for me. Plus, you can use them in the Zombies!!! board game, which is pretty fun.

Here's a comparison of the BoZs to both a Cultist and Plasma Cannon Dark Angel from DV

A Dark Place

I was making up a wee list of things to use;

1) DV cultists
2) 5-man box set cultists
3) catachan jungle fighters (+ chaosy bits)
4) forgeworld renegade kits
6) necromunda gangers
7) imperial guard 'missionaries'
8) autogun squat! (they still have dwarfism in the 41st millenium right?)
9) OOP chaos cultists
10) fantasy troops

Maybe the odd skaven or beastman as a mutant.
Mashing all those together should produce an eclectic mob, and that's just sticking to GW stuff.

I have 20 cc and 20 ranges cultists which I am going to supplement with Cadian models and catachen arms (tattoos) and weapons.

File off the Aguillas and replace with chaosy bits or "homemade" grafitti. I will also file the noses and mouths a bit and paint the lower faces black like a half mask.

I dont really want full faces showing so I plan on an eldar guardian helmet put on one of the cc cultists thats bald with no mask or shirt. Maybe a horn coming out of the forehead.

A friend is doing a Slaanesh army and plans on using some eldar guardian bits to fill out his cultists more.

I'm also using Flagellants as a base model for cultist conversions. I find that they give me the basic look that I want; then I add some greenstuff and old school weapons (Necromunda and 40k sprues from the late 90s) and they look pretty good.

I have about 35 of the old Rogue Trader plastic dudes, plus over 40 Necromunda Orlocks. I have a few frateris militia and a bunch of random old citadel miniatures.

My main use for these guys is as the auxilia in my Tyrant's Legion army (Imperial Armour 9: Badab War Part 1). However, I also plan to use my marines and auxilia troops as marines and cultists from the Chaos Codex to represent Lugft Huron and his forces before they fully turned chaotic and became the Red Corsairs.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
