Stalwart Dark Angels Space Marine

Hey guys, I run a GK army currently, and recently sold my Necrons. I'm looking for a new army to play since my Gk list is almost finished and properly tuned.

So what should I run? The group of folks I usually play against run Eldar, Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard, Tyranid, and Ork. I sold my Necrons because I felt they were an OP army that I wouldn't learn from. So I really don't want to run a duplicate army or Necrons. Also, my wife doesn't want any Chaos models in the house, they creep her out.

How do the other armies stack up? Tau? Sisters of Battle? Are the other Space Marines different enough to warrant running another SM army? What do you fine folks think?

The other Space Marine lists don't really play very differently from Grey Knights in that you're still fielding an elite army of versatile soldiers; if you're looking for a change a horde-oriented and/or more specialized force (Guard, Tyranids, Tau, Orks) would probably provide the biggest change. If your wife is creeped out by Chaos 'Nids probably aren't the best choice, though.

Tau are an interesting list in that they're not bad, but they're very difficult to play to their full potential. Overwatch made them significantly better, as did the reduced durability of enemy vehicles.

Orks are a relatively weak list since their ranged firepower is pretty insignificant, leaving them to slog across the field through enemy fire to get into close combat; I'd advise avoiding them against enemies playing Eldar or Dark Eldar since they have no good way of downing skimmers.

Guard are a pretty versatile shooting list that can build around firepower (lots of infantry platoons with heavy weapon squads), numbers (lots of boots on the ground), armor (Leman Russes), or speed (Vendettas and Veterans); they're one of the more competitive armies these days and are a good complement to Grey Knights as allies since their range and speed make up for Grey Knights' failings in those areas.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

If you want to marry an army, play guard. Between their 1500+ codex units, and all the FW stuff available, you'll always have something new and interesting that you will want to buy/try out.

However, seems your group is short a Tau player. They are very fun to play, and will provide mechanically fresh games for you and your group; the don't really play like anyone else, and you can't really play against a good tau build like you would other armies. They're my favorite enemy to fight, and apparently a kick to use.
