So I have a question for all of you out there and maybe some opinions on the matter, is Imperial Amour playable in Tournament settings? I've seen a lot of people recommend using IA in Tournaments, but outside of a local gaming store I don't feel I could use them under Apocalypse games. The reason I'm looking into this is because as a Ultramarine player, I don't have many anti-air counters and most of the stores I play in have crazy flier lists. I hear there is a good anti-air IA Dreadnought (and a drop Pod that will let you assault first turn) that I'd like to get, but don't want to shell the cash out if I can't use it (them). Thanks for any input!

Read the 31 page thread in my signature.
Every tournament is different. Some Tournament Organizers (TOs) will allow them, and some won't. Ask the TO or TOs in your local area that run tournaments if they allow them. Also, call some of your local stores and ask what they allow.

Meh. I gave him a fair summary, too.
Just didn't want this to turn into another 31 pager...

No, I know. The first line just initially made me laugh.

This. Tournaments are run by third-party TOs who can run them any way they like.
Some tournaments are run using the actual rules of 40k as printed by GW, in which case Imperial Armour units are allowed (at least the ones approved for standard 40k, superheavies and stuff are excluded).
Some tournaments are run using house rules that ban Imperial Armour units.
The only way to find out whether you can use them in a particular tournament is to contact the person running it and ask if it's a 40k tournament or a "my special game that is kind of like 40k" tournament.

It depends on the tournament organizer, but generally stuff with a 40k stamp (as opposed to an Apocalypse stamp) is okay to use under most circumstances.

I think you have it backwards as far as houserules vs actual rules.
Otherwise you can show me where in the 40k rulebook they're allowed.

GW endorsed FW units as legal for regular play a while ago.
They count as more codices, essentially.

Tournaments exist outside the normal 40k rules and apart from how GW intends the game to be played. Most do not, usually out of a mix of reducing complexity/ignorance/fear. That is changing and more and more tournaments are allowing it, but most still do not.
Ultimately, the rulebook doesn't cover tournaments for a reason, it's not the way GW intends the game to be played nor did they design it with such events in mind in any way. Each tournament is different, it's up to each TO for every event to make the decision.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

How the hell is that an "inflammatory post"? It's a simple statement of fact. Imperial Armour rules are legal according to the rules of 40k as printed by GW, and part of standard 40k. This is indisputably true. Some tournament organizers include house rules that change this and ban Imperial Armour rules. Also indisputably true. Personal opinions about what house rules should or shouldn't be used to create the ideal tournament experience have absolutely nothing to do with the indisputable truth of both statements.
