Says it all i have more orks then i can count and a reasonable amount of space marines tho no vehicles for the marines.
While im on break from playing the game trying to figure out what hq's / units i could get to complement my tau been trying to see what space marine HQ eldar, necron, guard really cant decide who i should get or work on wanted to see what people would suggest.

For tactics what i tend to do is get some hammer heads / broadsides sit back and pound my oponet as of late(got allies) ive used orks to bum rush while i try to take out any enemy forces im fine on orks.

what tactics / allies do some of you use?

Well, if you want some high-point space marine allies for a gunliner army, you can pack the following:

HQ: MofF on bike, w/ conversion beamer.

Troops: 4 sniper scouts+telion /w camo cloacks (optional: 4 more snipers and a ML scout to combat-squad)

Heavy Support: Thunderfire Cannon.

The scouts take care of pinpoint assassination needs, and generally mess key enemy units up.
The cannon gives you the missing templates and the nice slow effect. verstile firing options is sweet.
The MotF is a backfield commander that can reposition himself to get firing lines on whatever armor the enemy is hiding, using his bike to keep distance and use that S10AP1 blast. feels almost like a broadside HQ.

Your best ally options come from SM or Eldar.

Eldar for a farseer and whatever else

MotF or Bike captain for either dreads or bike troops.

There's nothing like saying here's my tau army and I've got two ironclads in drop pods, plus a single tactical squad in a pod as well. Or having two scoring melta toting bike squads running around the field.

Eldar have the best bang for the buck considering the way tau work. Farseer that can either cast doom on a unit or guide certain ones has its advantage. While you can also leverage market lights to increase your BS. I think going into any other book like marines won't so you enough justice due to the point cost you have to make.

For Tau? I've actually been using a small Tau allied detachment for my Grey Knights on occasion to make up for their lack of long-ranged firepower...If I had a primary Tau detachment, I'd likely want something that can hit pretty hard in CC to make up for the army's deficiencies. Eldar and Space Marines being Battle Brothers to the Tau suggests an opening for plenty of psychic shenanigans, but Grey Knights, assaulty Space Marine variants, and Orks could also work.

What eldar troop would you recommend? I was thinking about Rangers, but I'm not sure how many. Jetbikes would also work I guess...
