So I'll try to post the art from projects I work on for different RPGs and board games here, since these wouldn't really fit in 40k general discussion (and you guys probably care more about rpg art than the rest of the forum too).

So here is something I just finished up for the next issue of No Quarter, some gear for Iron Kingdoms

edit: probably shouldn't post before magazine, but I'll post soon!

Sounds like I'll have some more from Privateer Press coming soon

Also, I have something I am working on for Dream Pod 9, but can't talk about it yet. Its awesome though!

The cover I did for DP9:

Yup. Always keep NDA-ish terms in mind. It's for the best.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Alright, no gear yet since No Quarter still hasn't released, but the preview for the DP9 cover I worked on is up!

http://www.dp9.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=328:forged-in-fire-southern-field-guide&catid=42:news&Itemid=157

Started as a pretty raw render of the mechs, then I basically added all the color and painted all the surface detail, etc etc. Will post a process shot on my website so it will be easier to see what I mean

Oh, cool. That's a pretty big first project to be involved in, as it's the front cover of a major release (for a small company).

Congrats on the awesome cover!

Anything for FFG yet (don't say what it is - just a 'yes' or 'no' will suffice)?

Not necessarily the first, but the first I can post

Not yet :(

Trust me though, I'd like to draw some space marines!

Why are we still dealing with GW's gakky rehashed artwork and not getting things like this from you? Seriously quality stuff.

What's wrong with GW's art?

Some of its good but so much of is just the same old pictures that have been around for years and years. Look at the new rulebook and tell me the vast majority of those pictures haven't been in other codexes, rulebooks, supplements, etc. I just tire of seeing the same pictures over and over again while FFG manages to put out dozens of new pieces of nice artwork with every book.

And I won't even touch what I think of Blanche's style.

I mean look at daedalus' drawings of guns and other gear here. Now compare that to the outlines of bolters and chainswords that have been in every space marine codex for the last 5 years. Which one is better?

Well if the older artwork looks great why replace it and also just because something is better on a technical level doe not mean it's better on an artistic level other wise many genres of art would become invalid (abstract, non-objective, cubism, etc).

So you feel that putting in the same drawings book after book while still charging top dollar is a good thing? And lets face it scratchy pencil drawn pictures of space marines are really not comparative to an artistic movement.

Look at FFG. There's a consistent mix of both old and new art, not just the same pictures over and over again. The books are comparatively priced, but with FFG, you get new pictures and their, shock, in color.

But were getting OT and threadjacking so best leave it where it is.

Thanks for all the praise guys, but do try not to argue too much; art is very subjective after all

I have another contract from Privateer Press I am sure you guys will love; I'll post it as soon as I'm able.

But for now here is a commissioned piece of 40k I did for some dude.

http://galefire.com/2012/12/dh-commission-bloody-ruins/

I also updated my website so its a bit easier to view: http://galefire.com/ (got a good crit of it this afternoon by some professionals in the field )

Excellent. Hopefully for some stuff I'll be working on as well, as that'd be awesome.

Yes, that would be very cool. I'm working on a thing that apparently has been in the rumor mill for quite some time.

Also, I got my contributor copy of the latest issue of No Quarter, and I did some guns for it!

If that something is what I think it is... then I also know what it is. All this clandestine talk is very strange.

But, I had an idea, you can always ask them if they're looking for a designer diary from an artist. If you've done a big splash page or a particularly big piece of artwork, they might want a step-by-step little walkthrough of how you did the piece. Who's your project lead?

Great jod Daed, one question though do you have any formal lessons in art or are you mostly self-taught?

I might mention that once I get a few more things under my belt from them. Right now I am working with Andy Christensen.

Pretty much all self-taught, I mean, I took some art classes in high school and a couple in college, but nothing like what I actually do now.

I know for DP9 I love putting stuff like that up when I can get it. (But it'd need to be vetted by the art director.)

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Maybe I should talk to Greg about doing something like that.
